Chapter 505 - 503: Jiangnan Small Town (Three-in-One)_2

The war continues.

...

At the base——

The little girl was led by the medical staff to a safe place, where many adults in white coats were bustling about. There was not a single face she recognized.

The little girl nervously clung to the nurse’s hand.

"Good girl, don’t worry, your sister here will take you to a nice place," the nurse reassured, leading the girl away.

As they entered deeper into the facility, she began to see other children around her age, all engaging in strange training.

In the innermost room, a man in a suit sat at the head of the room, his hands crisscrossed under his chin as he observed the little girl. She looked back at him, wide-eyed.

...

Meanwhile, at a civilian’s house——

The young woman of the house quickly let in a pale-faced woman and a teenager, leading them into the room.

"You’ve been very helpful, we had nowhere else to go," the woman remarked with a bitter smile, sitting on the sofa and patting the boy’s head.

The journey had been so rigorous that the boy’s pants had worn a hole in them, the skin underneath, now scabbed over.

"I told you to come earlier, but you didn’t. Those people are not reliable," the woman said, sighing as she handed the woman a cup of water.

"What’s your name?"

...

The man calmly replied.

"What about you, little girl? What’s your name?"

...

"Chiqiu."

...

"Gu Nian."

...

July 3029, the species war begins. Lasting a month, with several negotiations between both sides, it leads to heavy casualties, with known deaths reaching up to 780,000. H City among six other provinces falls. The second largest freshwater resource becomes contaminated. The Federation is formed, the territories redrawn into seven regions, a peace treaty is signed with the mutant intelligent species, Federation cedes a province, new species do not wage war.

The Federation’s land area reduces to 12.8 million square kilometers. The people welcome peace.

After ten years in the Wanjiang Zone of Region Four——

Between Region Four and Region One is Region Three, riding a motorcycle isn’t practical. The Wanjiang Zone directly borders the Southern Sea Area. Prepared, Gu Nian wore standard protective gear. Early in the morning, she received a mission from the Federation headquarters and hopped on the earliest flight to Region Four. From there, she borrowed a motorcycle from the Area Police station and raced towards her destination.

When on a mission alone, Gu Nian preferred to travel by motorcycle. It was faster and more convenient.

From her earpiece, she heard the guide’s voice giving information.

After racing down the highway, following directions, Gu Nian arrived at an abandoned housing complex. A five-story building strewn with broken furniture. A sign stood at the entrance warning against entering.

Groans.

"Help! Monster! Please, help!"

From within the building, bestial growls and a man’s pleas for help were heard. Soon, several raggedly dressed men were seen running from the building, their feet bare. One of them had a large bite wound on his arm which was bleeding profusely.

Following them, a giant dog-like monster came dashing out. The monster was unusually muscular, standing about two meters tall with glaring red eyes, holding a human leg in its mouth, swallowing it whole with its massive, blood-drenched teeth.

"It’s appeared, the ability fluctuation was caused by this monster."

"It’s an A-class dog monster."

Voices came through Gu Nian’s earpiece. The Federation observers back at Region One came to this conclusion through satellite projection, directing Gu Nian’s next moves.

The dog monster, in spite of its pain, redirected its attention towards Gu Nian, charging at her at a startling speed. It was just within reach.

Bang!

Gu Nian pulled out a sniper rifle from her bag, aimed and managed to hit the dog monster in one eye.

"Roar!" The pain caused the dog monster to howl in anger, stopping it in its tracks. With one paw covering its bleeding eye, it paused.

The bullets are specially made by the Federation, extremely destructive against such mutated monsters.

Taking advantage of this, Gu Nian quickly switched to a portable rifle, jumped into the housing complex and ran towards the left, shooting at the monster while on the move.

"Roar!" The dog monster, while enduring the pain, redirected itself towards Gu Nian, aiming to attack her, releasing a blue Ability Sphere at her.

Gu Nian quickly dodged to her right, avoiding the Ability Sphere. She then managed to establish some distance between her and the monster. Switching back to the sniper rifle, she crouched, preparing to take aim again.

Bang.

A red light appeared in Gu Nian’s eyes, her body surrounded by a red halo. In a blink of an eye, several spheres appeared from her bag, stepping on the railing, she leapt into the air.

Boost jump by three hundred percent.

Roar!

The dog monster took its two hands and gathered two high concentration Ability Spheres, releasing them in Gu Nian’s direction.

Bang!

As Gu Nian hung from the railing of the rooftop , she threw one of the spheres towards the incoming Ability Spheres.

Strength boost by three hundred percent.

With a forceful tug, Gu Nian managed to flip herself onto the rooftop.

She was able to negate one of the Ability Spheres and dodged the other.

"Roar!"

The dog monster charged at Gu Nian with a speed far surpassing its previous, preparing to jump over the railing.

Gu Nian retreated, pulling out her rifle and holding it firmly in her grip. The rifle quickly began to glow a deep red. Her eyes were locked onto her target.

The dog monster leapt into the air.

Gu Nian pulled the trigger.

Strength boost by three hundred percent.

Speed boost by three hundred percent.

Bang, bang, bang!

The bullets came out faster and more fierce. Being in the air the dog monster had nowhere to dodge, other than pulses of Ability Spheres that were able to deflect some bullets, most hit the creature.

The powerful resistance from the bullets was enough to prevent the dog monster from reaching her.

The monster fell.

Continuing her chance to attack, Gu Nian switched back to the sniper rifle and prepared to take aim once again.

The dog monster spewed out a cloud of black smog, that filled the space between the two residential buildings.

Vision increased by three hundred percent.

Gu Nian’s eyes sparkled, barely able to discern the monster’s form in the dense black smog.

The target should be on the left.

Strength increased by three hundred percent.

Speed increased by three hundred percent.

Whoosh.

The sound of a bullet cutting through air.

Bang!

Roar!

From the black smog came the roar of a beast. The dog monster had latched itself onto a wall, claws embedded into the concrete, taking another bullet in the shoulder, the round penetrating deeply into the creature, opening its massive mouth. A black Ability Sphere gathered within, launching towards Gu Nian.

As Gu Nian retreated, she was able to dodge the first sphere.

The Ability Sphere paused for a moment in mid-air then redirected towards Gu Nian.

Is this all you’ve got?

Quickly, Gu Nian positioned herself, took aim and fired.

A sniper round and the Ability Sphere began to duel, with the bullet showing signs of being pushed back, losing against the Ability Sphere.

Whoosh.

Another sniper round fired, now two bullets hanging against the Ability Sphere.

Whoosh, whoosh.

Utilizing her adept ability, Gu Nian successfully increased the sniper rifle’s attack speed, firing two more rounds, finally piercing through the Ability Sphere.
