Chapter 5: This relationship isn't something you have to force.

Chapter 5: This relationship isn't something you have to force.

Last night was not the first time she had dreamed of Xie Yanning.

The first time was during my junior year of college.

So much time has passed that she can no longer remember what kind of dream it was.

All I remember is the sense of loss I felt when I woke up that morning.

That morning, she got up and checked her luggage one last time.

As an exchange student, she will be going to Europe for a year of study.

When checking her luggage for the last time, she found the pearl earrings that a classmate from another department had left with her a few days ago, which she had forgotten to return because she was too busy.

She quickly called to ask where he was.

Bai Feifei lowered her voice on the other end: "I'm in the multi-functional lecture hall. Aren't you rushing to catch a flight? You can leave me in my dorm first."

Judging from the background noise, it sounds like there's some kind of lecture or discussion session.

Bai Feifei is a student council member, so it's normal for her to help out there.

Su Wanwan checked the time and saw that it was still early, so she said, "It's okay, I'll go over there, it's not far."

The lecture hall doors were tightly closed, and Su Wanwan felt a little embarrassed to go in and disturb them.

Just then, a classmate was about to go in, so she slipped in after him.

Bai Feifei was still backstage when Su Wanwan sent her a message saying she would come out soon.

Su Wanwan watched the speaker on stage with boredom. The topic was an exchange between several universities on computer science and related topics. As a medical student, Su Wanwan didn't understand much of it.

After the speaker stepped down from the podium, the host came on stage: "Thank you, Liao Hui, for your wonderful speech. Next, please welcome Xie Yanning from Huaqiao University to give a speech. Let's give her a round of applause."

As the host finished speaking, a man on the left side of the front row stood up. He was very tall and had an upright posture. The spotlights above him shone on him, attracting everyone's attention.

Su Wanwan's gaze swept over, her heart skipped a beat and then started pounding wildly. Everything around her seemed to have been paused, silent and still, as if the whole world had shrunk to just the two of them.

She watched as Xie Yanning calmly walked onto the stage, his gaze sweeping over the audience as he gave his speech.

Su Wanwan could even hear some gasps.

The two girls sitting at the back whispered to each other, "We didn't expect him to be so handsome!"

With so much distance and so many people around, she wasn't sure if Xie Yanning could see her.

Xie Yanning spoke quite quickly on stage, glancing at her every now and then.

The program quickly moved on to the interaction with the audience, and a slender figure in the front row stood up.

The voice was crisp and pleasant, and also familiar, and you could see the perfect profile lines.

It is Zhang Yunqing.

Xie Yanning's childhood sweetheart.

Su Wanwan's blood immediately cooled down, and she felt a sense of shame for being presumptuous.

Just then, Bai Feifei finally finished her work and came out. Su Wanwan returned the items to her and left in a hurry.

Autumn in the port city is no different from summer; it's still hot and humid. Su Wanwan tried her best to fan herself, but the effect was almost negligible.

She went back to her dormitory, picked up her luggage, said goodbye to her classmates as she walked out of the school gate to get on the bus, glanced back at the tallest lecture hall on campus, and silently said goodbye.

I don't know if it's fate or not, but how come I saw him in person the only two times I dreamed of him?

Su Wanwan felt embarrassed just thinking about what had just happened. Xie Yanning and Zhang Yunqing were a loving couple, while she was on a blind date and someone had overheard them.

She felt like vomiting blood and wished she could travel back in time and start over.

With various bombardment sound effects filling her ears, Su Wanwan's heart was pounding uncomfortably.

She told Yang Lewei that she was going to the restroom and then left.

Su Wanwan sat on a chair outside the movie theater. It was the weekend, the autumn air was crisp and clear, and many parents brought their children out to play, making a lively scene.

She took out her phone and, almost without thinking, typed "Xie Yanning" into the search engine.

This was the first time she had actively sought out Xie Yanning's news since graduating from high school.

Before she could react, the 5G network speed had already retrieved all the content.

The first one is the encyclopedia entry with his ID photo.

He looks handsome even in his ID photo.

Xie Yanning, an associate professor at the School of Computer Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, has his academic experience included in this article.

Their slender, pale fingers swiped across the screen. Throughout their many years of schooling, they had spent most of their time on different continents, separated by the vast Atlantic Ocean.

Below are the research results that will take a long time to complete, along with various titles.

At such a young age, he is already an associate professor at a prestigious university, with unlimited potential.

In his eyes, she was just an insignificant "Miss," and this relationship wasn't something he necessarily wanted to cultivate.

Su Wanwan put away her phone and went inside to finish watching the movie she hadn't yet seen.

Seeing that she had been gone for so long, Yang Lewei asked her in a low voice, "Are you alright?"

"It's nothing." Su Wanwan shook her head gently.

There was nothing wrong to begin with.

In the vast northern city, she might not even see her colleagues once every year or two, let alone people from the same city.

When Su Wanwan returned to work the next day, she sensed that the way people around her were looking at her was a bit strange.

In the office, Dr. Li was about to go on rounds when he saw her. He gave her a half-smile and said, "Dr. Su, I believe in you! Keep it up, fighting!"

"..."

baffling.

Su Wanwan sat down at her workstation. Nan Sisi, who had joined at the same time as her, moved her chair over and whispered to her, "The whole department, no, the whole hospital, knows about your blind date with Director Chen's nephew."

"Now I know what I'll ask of you to marry me," Nan Sisi added.

Su Wanwan is beautiful, and in the month or so since she arrived, she's had quite a few suitors. But just like her dedication to the great medical cause, Su Wanwan consistently refuses them all: "Sorry, I have to work."

It doesn't matter whether people believe it or not.

Su Wanwan: "..."

She probably knew that the comments behind it were definitely not so understated; Nan Sisi was probably too embarrassed to tell her the harsh ones.

Hospitals really are breeding grounds for rumors.

"As a woman, I certainly can't lower my standards. Better to have nothing than something bad." Su Wanwan patted Nan Sisi, then calmly walked out.

Go ahead and spread it; the hype will die down in a couple of days. There's never a shortage of new things to talk about, and it'll save her some peace and quiet later.

She doesn't need anyone to introduce her to potential partners.

During the lunch break, Su Wanwan was eating in the canteen when Chen Yanlai sat down opposite her.

Su Wanwan looked up and greeted, "Director Chen."

Chen Yanlai: "I have to apologize to you for what's been circulating at the hospital. It's all my sister-in-law's fault. She went back and told her best friend, and now it's all over the place." That best friend works in the hospital's medical affairs department.

Su Wanwan took a bite of rice and said, "Director Chen, what you said is not wrong. It's not a rumor, so there's no need to apologize."

“Sigh,” Chen Yanlai sighed, “to be honest, what do you think of my nephew?”

Yesterday, when they returned home, Chen Heting and Xiao Rujuan had their first argument. Xiao Rujuan was so angry that she cursed Su Wanwan as a jinx and said that she would never let Su Wanwan into the house unless she died.

Chen Yan could tell that Chen Heting really liked Su Wanwan.

This is a bit tricky.

Even if those demands were made, upon closer reflection, what's wrong with a girl asking for these things? It's not like their family can't afford it, and the two of them aren't heading towards divorce after getting married.

Besides, she could tell that Su Wanwan wasn't the kind of person who coveted other people's money.

"Director Chen, no matter how I look at it, it's no use." Su Wanwan spread her hands. "Right now, they don't even like me. You can't force a relationship."

Especially since the other woman's mother didn't approve of her, Su Wanwan added in her mind.

Chen Yanlai's heart skipped a beat. Oh well, he didn't like her either. It seems her nephew's love life is full of hardships.
