Chapter 6 Neighbors should give and take.
When Su Wanwan decided to work at the hospital, Ms. Zhong found her an apartment nearby.
It's right near the hospital; it only takes about ten minutes to walk to work there.
It's a stacked villa, with one level above the other.
Ms. Zhong, who was initially very wealthy, wanted a detached villa, but there were no good properties nearby. After searching around, she found nothing better.
The residents are mostly university teachers, who are highly qualified, and the community has strong security.
I reluctantly chose this one.
I've also inquired about Ms. Zhong, the downstairs neighbor; her family are all professors from prestigious universities, a family steeped in scholarship.
He looked refined and knowledgeable, which pleased Ms. Zhong.
The elderly couple doesn't live here often; their son, an associate professor at a prestigious university, is the one who lives here regularly.
Ms. Zhong had never met him, but she imagined that a son raised in such a scholarly family must be of impeccable character.
As the saying goes, a close neighbor is worse than a distant relative. Ms. Zhong had even added the elderly couple on WeChat and given the contact information to Su Wanwan.
I told her to visit me when she had time, to reconnect, so that she could have someone to look out for her if anything happened in the future.
Su Wanwan did add him, and they even exchanged greetings on WeChat.
However, she was very busy as soon as she returned to work, and the planned visit never materialized.
She can't just go to someone's house late at night, only to find that they're at work when she finally gets some rest.
Su Wanwan didn't have any major opinions about the house.
Both sides are used for sleeping.
Her only requirements were that it be close by and quiet.
The current house perfectly meets her requirements.
The place was so quiet, it was like nobody lived there.
Su Wan usually rides a shared bicycle to work in the evenings. She just returned to China and hasn't had time to renew her driver's license yet.
After all, if there's a traffic jam, driving might not be as fast as her riding a bicycle.
Consider it exercise.
This area has good greenery, the air quality isn't too bad, and the security is good.
Su Wanwan parked her shared bicycle in front of the bus stop and looked up at the bus stop sign.
...BGI—Anxin Hospital—Lantingfu...
She hadn't expected to be so close to Xie Yanning.
Su Wanwan withdrew her gaze, swiped her card to enter the community, and thought to herself, "Could it be such a coincidence that Xie Yanning lives here?"
If it's true, it would be quite awkward.
But it's alright. Given her cultivation schedule, even if we live in the same neighborhood, we probably won't see each other more than once a year.
The community has a large green area with gardens scattered throughout. The developer also spent a lot of money to build an artificial mountain in the community, with a small waterfall cascading down and flowing water through the underground waterways, meandering throughout the community.
Autumn is approaching, and some leaves have fallen early, many of which have not yet been swept away.
Su Wanwan stepped on it, and there was a rustling sound.
She opened the express delivery locker by the door; it was from Gangcheng.
Needless to say, it was Ms. Zhong who sent it to her.
As soon as it was brought inside, Yuanxiao came over.
Su Wanwan habitually stroked the cat's head and picked up the scissors to open the package.
The express delivery box was very large, and it was filled with some famous seafood products from the port city, such as fish maw, sea cucumber, abalone, and scallops. The box was packed full.
Their family runs a catering business and has long-term partnerships with these merchants, allowing them to purchase goods at relatively low prices.
It is said that Ms. Zhong mentioned this to her downstairs neighbor during a conversation, and then sent this to Su Wanwan so that she could give it to the downstairs neighbor as a favor.
Neighbors should give and take.
Su Wanwan has been working the night shift all day and got back relatively early, at least before the sun went down.
When she looked downstairs, she happened to see a refined woman watering the flowers.
There's no time like the present.
Su Wanwan picked up the beautifully packaged seafood and went downstairs, then rang the doorbell.
The woman inside adjusted her glasses and peered out through the crack in the small gate to the courtyard, a look of doubt in her eyes: "Who are you looking for?"
Su Wanwan flashed a bright smile: "Hello, Aunt Gu. I'm Su Wanwan, and I live upstairs from you."
Gu Ruyi quickly put down the kettle, opened the door, and warmly invited her in: "Oh, it's Xiao Su! Come in quickly!"
Su Wanwan handed over the gift box, "Aunt Gu, this is something my mother told me to bring to you. The renovations upstairs caused you so much trouble, and I haven't had a chance to thank you yet."
During the renovation, the workers accidentally knocked some things into their yard, but fortunately no one was injured or any property was damaged.
"Oh, why are you being so polite?" Gu Ruyi's first reaction was to refuse.
"Auntie, please accept this. My mom sent it to you specially." Su Wanwan said playfully, "Otherwise, if I can't even do this little thing right, my mom will scold me."
"You guys are really something." Gu Ruyi sighed.
After much persuasion, they finally accepted the gift.
Gu Ruyi understood Zhong Qian's intentions to some extent; a daughter working so far from her hometown needed someone to look after her.
Moreover, both she and Zhong Qian love flowers, so they have quite a few things in common.
She really liked Su Wanwan.
Not only is she beautiful and intelligent, but she is also sensible, polite, and patient.
Gu Ruyi brought the person into her home.
This was the first time Su Wanwan had stepped into her downstairs neighbor's house.
The overall decor is solid, but tasteful, and very comfortable inside.
"Here, have some tea." Gu Ruyi poured her some water.
"Thank you, Auntie."
"Don't be so polite," Gu Ruyi said. "If you haven't eaten, could you do me the honor of having a simple meal with this old woman?"
"Those two have a meeting to attend today, and they probably won't be back until very late tonight."
Since everyone else had said so, Su Wanwan decided to comply respectfully.
Not wanting to just sit there, she smiled and went to the kitchen with them, saying, "Auntie isn't an old woman anymore. People would believe I'm her older sister if they said so."
Su Wanwan's words weren't particularly flattering.
I heard that Gu Ruyi's son is about the same age as her, around fifty years old, but he looks only about forty, with a firm and fair complexion, and looks very elegant.
Her mother said he was a botany professor.
He spends all his time dealing with plants; no wonder he looks so young.
"Your words are as sweet as honey," Gu Ruyi said with a smile. Any woman would be happy to be praised by someone.
If Su Wanwan is truly interested in interacting with people, she can still make them very happy.
After the meal, he almost wanted to adopt Su Wanwan as his goddaughter.
When Xie Yanning returned, he saw a gift box in the living room and asked Gu Ruyi what it was about.
"Oh, it was delivered by Xiao Su upstairs." Gu Ruyi didn't have time to unpack it, and then said, "It's not easy for a girl like her to come here and work hard. If you have time, please take care of her."
Xie Yanning said helplessly, "Mom!"
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Gu Ruyi gently patted him. "Do you think I want to set you two up? Xiao Su is young, beautiful, and cute, and she wouldn't even look at you!"
"Mom, that's not what I meant." Xie Yanning said helplessly.
“It’s not the best,” Gu Ruyi said. “It’s just so you can lend a hand when people need it.”
She doesn't understand this son yet; he harbors feelings for someone else.
Thinking of this, Gu Ruyi sighed softly in her heart, "Deep affection is short-lived."
A month after the upstairs neighbors moved in, Xie Yanning has never seen the lights on upstairs, no matter how late she comes home.
He wanted to lend a hand, but he probably didn't have the chance.
Initially, Xie Yanning wanted to buy the upstairs apartment and connect it with the apartment since the upstairs neighbors were going abroad. However, the original neighbor, who supposedly had some connections with the current upstairs family, sold it directly.
Fortunately, they are an easy-going neighbor.
Xie Yanning didn't take it to heart.
