Then Sister Lan introduced the members of their team to Xu Anran and the others. The female college student was named Hu Shuhan, and the young man and woman were named Zhang Haoran and Qi Qian, respectively.
After everyone greeted each other, Sister Lan asked Xu Anran if they were still planning to go to N Province, suggesting they travel together. Xu Anran thought it wouldn't be convenient to travel with Xu Liang alone, and she didn't fully trust him, so she thought it would be better to travel together. Xu Anran readily agreed and suggested that with so many of them, they should rent a large RV, which would be more convenient if they needed to stay in the wilderness.
Everyone agreed the plan was feasible, so the group drove to the next city. Xu Anran and Xu Liang were responsible for renting a car, while the others went to replenish supplies and carry their necessary items. After agreeing to meet at a certain location, everyone dispersed and got to work.
After arriving at the car dealership, Xu Liang and Xu Anran selected a large RV. The vehicle was entirely black, about the size of a large truck, with a very comfortable driver's seat offering excellent visibility. It also had a small door connecting the driver's seat to the rear, allowing direct access to the rear area.
The interior of the RV is incredibly spacious. A movable TV is installed near the driver's seat, and the dining table below can be converted into a bed.
Another movable bed is installed above. Furthermore, the sofa area at the rear can be converted into a bed, and there is also a large double bed at the back of the vehicle. This configuration is sufficient to accommodate the living needs of this group of people, and it also includes a bathroom, kitchen, and air conditioning.
This vehicle has a very unique design. It not only has a movable roof, but also allows the roof to be moved up to create a spacious terrace when needed, while it can be moved back to its original position when the second-floor space needs to be enclosed.
In addition, there is a comfortable double bed on the second floor, but due to limited space, people can only sit or squat when they enter the second floor.
Xu Anran and Xu Liang were very satisfied with the car's design. So, the two of them went through the formalities together.
They paid a deposit of approximately 100,000 yuan and rent of 50,000 yuan.
At noon, everyone gathered to distribute supplies and settle vehicle costs. They decided to split the RV price equally so everyone could afford it. Xu Anran suggested that they didn't need to look for hotels along the way; they could stay in the RV to save time and reach their destination as quickly as possible.
They set off again, with Xu Anran driving her own van, the young couple driving a commercial vehicle, and Sister Lan and the female college student following in Xu Liang's RV. Their convoy wound its way along the highway.
Each time they reached the next tollbooth, Xu Liang would hide in the restroom and have Lan Jie drive in his place to avoid inspection. In this way, after about a week, they finally arrived in HN Province.
Everyone got along well on the journey. During the day, while traveling, Sister Lan prepared meals in the RV, and everyone ate there when they rested. At night, they slept in the RV, with those who didn't drive taking turns keeping watch each night. Xu Liang slept on the single bed in the front, Sister Lan and the female college student slept on the large bed in the back, Xu Anran slept on the bed made from the sofa, and the young couple slept on the second floor.
After arriving in N Province, the group decided to rest and discuss their next plan. Xu Anran spoke first: "Xu Liang and I have already discussed it. Considering that this global disaster was caused by a virus, we plan to go into the wild for survival and try to avoid contact with others."
Then, the young man in the couple said, "Sisi and I have discussed it, and we plan to find a small courtyard in the suburbs as a hiding place."
Hearing this, Sister Lan and the young female college student felt conflicted. They thought both ideas were good; living in the courtyard would be more comfortable, but at the same time, living in the wild seemed safer.
Lan Jie observed Xu Liang and the boy more closely and felt that Xu Liang seemed more capable. After some thought, she finally made a decision: "I'll go on a wilderness trip with An Ran, Xiao Xu, and the others." The female college student said she would go with Lan Jie.
And so, everyone reached a consensus and began to act. They moved the young couple's belongings from the RV to the van, helped them find a place to stay, and after saying goodbye, they went their separate ways.
Xu Anran led the way in the van, with the RV following closely behind. Following the navigation, they drove north, eventually arriving at a small city in the northernmost part of the province. Sparsely populated and not a tourist destination, it was exceptionally peaceful.
They continued their journey, searching for a suitable place. Finally, they found an ideal spot to stay in the wilderness. The area was deserted, more than thirty kilometers from the nearest village or town. They stopped the vehicle and got out to carefully observe their surroundings.
Not far away was a large lake, its water crystal clear, revealing the sand and pebbles at the bottom and the fish and shrimp swimming around. A dense forest bordered the lake, surrounded by muddy paths. Xu Anran and the others parked their car, using the surrounding bushes for cover, so that no one from the outside would notice they had been there.
They all got out of the car and split into two groups to explore the surrounding area. Soon, they returned to their original spot; there were only trees and grass nearby, no crops. There were some small animal tracks on the ground, but no trace of large animals. This reassured them, at least they didn't have to worry about encountering any ferocious wild animals.
Everyone was very satisfied with the place. Xu Anran took two ordinary solar charging panels from the car, or rather, from the space inside, and installed them on the RV.
They reassigned the night watch duties, with two people per night, one for the first and one for the second. Xu Anran and the female college student were in one group, while Xu Liang and Sister Lan were in the other. The beds were also reassigned. Xu Liang, being taller, slept alone in the large bed on the second floor. Sister Lan and the female college student continued to sleep together in the large bed in the back of the vehicle, while Xu Anran slept in the single bed in the front of the vehicle.
Since the four of them decided to settle here, each of them took out most of the food they had stockpiled and placed it in the RV, handing it over to Sister Lan for unified management.
After arriving, Xu Liang frequently went hunting in the surrounding woods, setting traps to catch various small animals. Every few days, he would successfully catch pheasants or rabbits, providing everyone with a sumptuous meal. Sometimes, Xu Anran would accompany him.
