The Guo family has witnessed Guo Shu's talent. Now the emperor values virtuous and capable people and appoints many promising young talents. Guo Shu is the most promising person among her generation in the Guo family to study for the imperial examination. If she is ruined by her nephew, it will be useless even if her family has power in the capital.
Once she got married, her family could no longer control her much, and her honor and disgrace were tied to the Guo family.
Madam Guo knew she was in the wrong. Her family was her support, so she couldn't really ignore Duan Kun. However, she also couldn't fail to give an explanation to her husband's family. In the end, she had no choice but to apologize in person.
Then they sent Duan Kun and his sister back to the capital. Of course, the eldest son's family also had to give them a lot of things.
The members of the second branch of the Guo family were not surprised by this outcome. After all, they knew that the Duan family was not something they could contend with at present. If it weren't for Madam Guo being a member of the Guo family, Guo Shu might have had to suffer in silence this time.
Duan Kun was quickly packed up and sent away.
When Duan Kun left, he told his aunt the truth, saying that it was Liu Ming's idea at first. When Madam Guo heard this, she immediately found an outlet for her anger. She said that Duan Kun had plotted to frame his relatives for no reason, and that someone had "devised the plan".
After seeing Duan Kun off, Madam Guo naturally wouldn't let Liu Ming off the hook, so she invited Liu Ming's mother to come over for a chat.
Liu Ming's mother was a snobbish person who looked down on others. As the wife of the magistrate of Jinghai County, she loved dealing with officials.
If there was anyone in the entire Jinghai County who could catch her eye, it would be Madam Guo, who had married into the capital. After all, Madam Guo's family and her husband's family were of high status, which Madam Guo couldn't compare to, so she naturally wanted to curry favor with them.
Liu Ming didn't go home that day; he didn't dare let his family know what he was doing, so Mrs. Liu was very happy to receive the invitation.
Mrs. Liu came over happily.
"May Madam Guo come in?"
Looking at Madam Liu's face, Madam Guo didn't feel like laughing. She said coldly, "Thank goodness, you're not living a very comfortable life."
Madam Liu realized something was amiss: "What does Madam Guo mean by that?"
Madam Guo retorted, "Could it be that Madam Liu really doesn't know? Madam Liu, don't play dumb. How could you not know what good deeds your son has done?"
Mrs. Liu was puzzled; how did this get to her son?
"Madam Guo, please be frank! I don't quite understand what you're saying."
Madam Guo had naturally inquired about it, and Madam Liu genuinely didn't know at the moment, but that didn't stop her from venting her anger.
"Your youngest son, Liu Ming, bought some disgusting stuff from a brothel, trying to drug my nephew. I've already had people find out that Jin Fu, who works for your son, personally went to buy it. What else do you have to say?"
Mrs. Liu was shocked. Would her son do such a thing? It was quite possible.
However, Madam Liu firmly refused to admit it: "Madam Guo, have you misunderstood something? Ming'er is a well-behaved and sensible child. He shouldn't have done such a thing. Perhaps he has been wronged."
Madam Guo refused to listen to any explanation and persisted in her unreasonable accusations. In the end, Madam Liu left in a fit of anger, but before leaving, she made a promise that if Liu Ming really did it, she would definitely give the Guo family an explanation.
Only then did Madam Guo let her go.
As soon as Madam Liu left the Guo residence, she instructed her servant to go to the academy. She knew nothing about the matter at the moment and wanted to bring her son back to find out the truth.
Not only did Madam Guo invite Madam Liu to her home, but before Madam Liu even arrived, Liu Wenyu received a letter from Second Master Guo, a letter of complaint.
The letter basically explained Liu Ming's despicable methods. When Liu Wenyu received the letter, he was so angry that he wanted to tear Liu Ming to pieces. How could he have given birth to such a blockhead?
As soon as Madam Liu arrived home, a gatekeeper came out and said, "Madam, you're finally back. Master wants to see you."
Madam Liu asked in surprise, "Now?"
"Yes, now, this servant sees that Master looks like he has something urgent to attend to."
Madam Liu had a bad feeling and said, "I understand."
Then they went to Liu Wenyu's study.
Upon arriving at the study, Madam Liu asked somewhat nervously, "My lord, why did you call me here so urgently?"
Liu Wenyu was furious when he saw that she didn't seem to want to explain the situation at all. If she hadn't spoiled her son all the time, would he have gotten into so much trouble?
Where did you go?
"I went to the Guo residence. Today, Madam Guo invited me, so I went to her place."
Liu Wenyu asked coldly, "What brings Madam Guo to invite you?"
Madam Liu had a bad feeling. Liu Wenyu rarely asked about these things: "Why is the master asking these questions?"
Liu Wenyu was no longer willing to play along: "Tell me the truth, or you'll never speak again."
Madam Liu was startled, but she guessed that Liu Wenyu probably knew about her son's affair.
"Doesn't the master already know?"
Liu Wenyu was furious: "This is the son you've spoiled! Look at what you've become! Call him back. He doesn't need to go to the academy anymore. He'll only embarrass himself if he goes out like that."
“Master, Ming’er is our own son, how can you be so heartless?”
Liu Wenyu wasn't heartless; the problem was that he couldn't protect a son who only knew how to cause trouble all day long.
“If you hadn’t spoiled him like this, he wouldn’t have developed this kind of personality. Whose fault is it? Since you don’t know how to raise a son, I’ll just pretend I never had this son.”
Madam Liu exclaimed in disbelief, "Master!!!"
"Guards, take Madam to the back courtyard. From now on, she is not to be allowed to come out without my orders."
Madam Liu was taken to the backyard, and Liu Ming was picked up by his mother's people. Liu Ming then knew that his mother already knew.
