Chapter 157 Playing the Scoundrel

Thankfully, my drinking etiquette isn't too bad.

She glanced at Green Bamboo discreetly, and only relaxed completely after finding that Green Bamboo didn't have a strange expression. It seemed that Green Bamboo hadn't done anything strange yesterday.

He rubbed his aching head and had Green Bamboo help him wash up. Then he went downstairs and found that a bowl of warm honey water had been laid out on the table.

Mingxiu gave Green Bamboo an approving look, then picked up the honey water and gulped it down.

After drinking it, I finally felt my hangover brain clear up a bit.

However, she drank too much last night and is still feeling unwell with no appetite. After drinking a bowl of plain porridge, she went back to bed to take a nap.

Anyway, she doesn't need to pay her respects now, and she has nothing to do. Besides, it was so hot yesterday, but it's raining today.

Looking at the drizzling rain outside, it was clear that even God wanted her to go back to sleep.

So Mingxiu felt relieved and went back to sleep for a while.

When she opened her eyes again, it was almost lunchtime. Mingxiu rubbed her eyes, rolled over in bed, yawned, and sat up.

As soon as I reached the stairs, I could hear the voices of children coming from below.

Mingxiu raised an eyebrow and walked down to see Yinreng sitting below, with Emperor Kangxi and his son next to him, and a set of chess pieces between them.

It was the Go board game that Mingxiu had given to Yinreng earlier.

Hearing the voice from above, the father and son turned around and saw Mingxiu coming down.

Kangxi raised an eyebrow. "Finally awake. You said you couldn't hold your liquor, so you shouldn't have drunk so much, but you ended up getting completely drunk."

Mingxiu laughed sheepishly; there really weren't any secrets in this palace.

Yinreng looked at Mingxiu with concern and asked, "Mother Ming, are you still feeling unwell? I heard from Aunt Lüzhu that you had a terrible headache when you woke up. Does it still hurt? Let me rub your head for you."

Mingxiu felt a warmth in her heart and stepped forward to pinch Yinreng's chubby little face with both hands. "Oh, Baocheng is so sensible. He knows how to care for his mother, unlike some people who don't even know how to say a word of concern and only know how to be sarcastic. Don't worry, Baocheng, I'm fine now. I appreciate Baocheng's concern, that's all I need." Mingxiu said with a smile and patted Yinreng's head.

Yinreng nodded, glancing at Mingxiu somewhat embarrassed.

They moved a chair for Mingxiu and had her sit between the two of them.

Kangxi watched their interaction and raised an eyebrow at them.

Ming Xiucai ignored Kangxi's gaze, moved his stool slightly towards Yinreng, and watched them play chess. He and Yinreng discussed their next move in hushed tones.

Mingxiu even went so far as to unreasonably move Kangxi's chess piece to a different spot.

This gave Yinreng's chess piece a place to move, and Yinreng quickly placed the piece in his hand in that position.

Emperor Kangxi, watching from the side, almost laughed in anger. These two were blatantly switching his pieces, as if he didn't exist.

But seeing the two people opposite him looking so excited, he didn't say anything. He simply made another move and then crushed Yinreng's piece again.

Mingxiu and Yinreng exchanged a grim glance, then looked at Kangxi.

Mingxiu winked at Kangxi, "How old are you? Still bullying a little kid like that? Can't you give way?"

Kangxi cheerfully picked up his teacup and took a sip of the cool tea, ignoring the expressions on the two men's faces.

The sky, which was pouring rain this morning, has now cleared up.

Mingxiu pulled her clothes tighter, feeling that the weather was a little chilly, and instructed someone to close the side door tightly.

Looking at the sky outside, and then at the father and son playing Connect Four on the tatami mat next to him, having a great time, Mingxiu smiled helplessly. One of them didn't feel embarrassed at all about bullying a child, while the other was more determined than ever to defeat his imperial father. It just wouldn't end. Mingxiu was getting annoyed watching.

Looking at the weather outside, Mingxiu, feeling particularly hungry after her hangover, suddenly wanted to eat a big meal. She asked Luzhu to get some vegetables and then got up and went to the small kitchen.

Before long, Green Bamboo returned with a basket full of vegetables. Mingxiu was very satisfied with the ribs, green beans, and potatoes inside.

She instructed someone to prepare the noodles, wash and chop all the vegetables; she suddenly had a strong craving for stew in an iron pot today.

This dish comes from a girl she shared a dorm with in college. She was from Northeast China and was an excellent cook. Another girl in the dorm was from the South and spoke softly and sweetly. Both of them were excellent cooks; one made sweet and sticky desserts, while the other made elaborate dishes like this.

Mingxiu and another roommate were fed by these two for four whole years. The two of them bought a small pot and used it to play a guerrilla war with the dormitory auntie, cooking for four years.

It was around that time that Mingxiu learned to make stew in an iron pot.

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The stew they used to eat had corn in it, but now there's no corn, so they can only use potatoes, green beans, and glass noodles.

First, blanch the ribs and put them in a big iron pot to simmer slowly. Stewing in an iron pot gives the food more soul. This was something that the girl in their dormitory said sadly when she was cooking. At that time, Mingxiu was so engrossed in eating that she couldn't lift her head. She was thinking that it was so delicious that it didn't need an iron pot to cook. How delicious it must be if it was cooked in an iron pot.

Shaking her head, Mingxiu picked up the flour and tried to make it into the shape of a flower roll.

Iron pot stew can be used to make cornbread and steamed buns. Mingxiu prefers steamed buns. If the steamed buns are thick, putting them in the pot with the rich broth makes them incredibly fragrant.
