Chapter 343 Assassination

After everything was tidied up, Count Haino appeared at the door right on time.

Earl Haino's carriage was a pure white, luxurious model, so beautiful that Mingxiu almost drooled. It was truly a magnificent carriage.

"Good morning, Earl Hainuo. These are scallion pancakes we made this morning, a local delicacy from our hometown. I packed some for you, just in case you like them." Kangxi said with a smile, and had someone hand over the scallion pancakes.

"Oh God, of course I love it! Thank you so much! Please get in the carriage, I'll take you there right away," Count Haino said happily as he rode his horse.

He was thinking about whether he could have breakfast here on the way, but he didn't expect that they would prepare it for him.

Mingxiu sat inside the carriage, while Kangxi rode alongside Earl Hainuo. Earl Hainuo was somewhat uncomfortable on horseback, but he couldn't wait to start eating.

"Oh, this crispy and crunchy texture, savory and delicious, is really quite good," Earl Haino praised after taking a bite.

Kangxi and Mingxiu just smiled and didn't say anything. After taking a couple of bites, Earl Hainuo put the food away, since eating on horseback was really ungentlemanly.

Throughout the journey, Kangxi was talking with Earl Hainuo. Mingxiu was a woman, and even if Mingxiu didn't mind, Earl Hainuo would probably mind, or rather, he wanted to avoid suspicion. So Mingxiu simply didn't speak, just listened, and occasionally looked at the scenery outside.

The scenery here is quite similar to that of their Qing Dynasty.

Mingxiu also saw many Qing Dynasty items on the street, such as silk and fans, which were obviously sold by Qing Dynasty merchants.

There were also some very exquisite items. When Mingxiu saw the cloth tigers that the children passing by were holding, she couldn't help but laugh.

I wonder which merchant actually brought a cloth tiger to buy; they really have a childlike heart.

The school where Earl Haino worked was quite far from the city center. Mingxiu watched as the surrounding environment gradually became less populated, and then there were hardly any people left, with everything covered in greenery.

The two people in front of her were talking about something, but the wind on Mingxiu Road was a bit strong, so Mingxiu could only hear them faintly.

Mingxiu simply stopped listening. The breeze was quite comfortable, so Mingxiu happily pulled back the curtains, closed her eyes, and enjoyed the breeze.

She hadn't been enjoying herself for long when she suddenly felt the wind in front of her stop. Not only did it stop, but it also got much darker. Mingxiu opened her eyes in confusion and saw that the curtain in front of her had been closed at some point.

Mingxiu reached out to open the curtain when Kangxi's voice suddenly came over.

"Don't lift it. Stay inside and hide if there's any danger." Mingxiu's expression turned serious, and she quickly withdrew her hand, knowing that Kangxi meant there was danger and she should go directly into the space.

But what danger could there be at this moment? Could it be that Count Haino is not on good terms after all, and is planning to assassinate them here?

As Mingxiu was lost in thought, she suddenly heard a sound.

"Stop! If you want to leave, leave behind your women, horses, and valuables, and we might spare your lives, you pretty boys. But if you don't know what's good for you, don't blame us for being impolite."

Mingxiu: .......

Okay, now she knows what the danger is.

So they came out looking so fresh and radiant.

Mingxiu doesn’t understand!

"Oh, I didn't know. What are you planning to do if I don't stay?" Haino looked at the robbers in front of him, his eyes filled with barely suppressed anger. This was truly something he'd never seen before; when did someone dare to rob him?

"Hmph, I'm not someone to be trifled with. Are you going to release me or not? If not, don't blame my men for being ruthless." Kangxi stood on his horse beside Mingxiu's carriage, frowning. But this wasn't his territory, so he mainly wanted to see what Earl Haino was going to do.

"Heh, Brother Kang, don't be afraid. Just keep an eye on the lady. Leave this man to me." Count Haino waved his hand, signaling the guards beside him to go ahead. He didn't forget to appease Kangxi, as it was truly embarrassing to let foreigners see their country in such a state.

Kangxi nodded and stood next to Mingxiu.

Then Mingxiu heard gunshots and realized that the man leading the group on the other side, upon seeing that they were armed, widened his eyes and had only one thought in his mind: "We're doomed! We've messed with the wrong people."

Count Haino didn't care about any of that; he took his gun and quickly wiped everyone out.

"Brother Kang and Madam Kang, are you alright?" Earl Haino walked over and asked Kangxi.

Kangxi nodded: "No, it's us who haven't contributed any effort at all. We've troubled you, Earl."

"It's alright, this is just part of our job. These people are really arrogant, daring to rob me in broad daylight." Count Haino squinted at the people in front of him, as someone had already started to gather their bodies together.

Kangxi nodded, and everyone continued walking forward.

Mingxiu looked at the situation outside, remained silent for a moment, and didn't say anything. She didn't know when she had become so calm when she saw these dead people.

Kangxi seemed even less concerned. These things were quite commonplace to him. What he cared more about were the guns they had just taken out. Kangxi also had two guns on his legs. These were guns that Kangxi had developed based on methods from later generations. They were very powerful, but since they didn't have these later-era materials, the guns they developed weren't much less powerful.

It seems they shouldn't be underestimated.

Emperor Kangxi became even more determined to accelerate the development of firearms and machinery in the country.

Otherwise, the events of the previous life would be even more likely to repeat themselves.

After walking for about half an hour, the group finally arrived at the school.

Mingxiu stepped down from the carriage, looked up at the majestic school in front of her, and was deeply moved.

"Please come in, gentlemen. This is the school where I work. However, most students are in class at this time, so there won't be many people on campus, but that makes it convenient for us to tour the place," Earl Haino said with a gentlemanly gesture.

Mingxiu and Kangxi followed Earl Hainuo into the campus. Looking at the scenery, they suddenly felt like they had returned to their university days.

“This is our teaching building, and this is where the professors work. Further ahead is a grove of trees, where some young people like to sneak off.” Count Haino winked at Mingxiu as he spoke.

Mingxiu couldn't help but laugh.

“I’ll take you to the agricultural college up ahead first, then I’ll find someone to show you around. I have a class later, so I’ll come back to find you after that,” Earl Haino said.

Emperor Kangxi nodded.
