End of Chapter 407

"I'll go, I'll go!" - Yinti

“I can too,” Hongxi said.

These two were the quickest to speak, so after a quick look, Mingxiu entrusted them with the task of delivering the dumplings to the kitchen.

After the dumplings were finished, everyone changed and washed up a bit. After all, they had just been playing with flour, and everyone had some flour on them. Mingxiu didn't want everyone to be dirty on her happy birthday.

In the evening, after everyone had finished cleaning up, dinner was ready.

Since the weather was pleasantly mild and there were many people around, Mingxiu didn't arrange anything inside the house and had everyone sit in the courtyard instead.

The younger children were seated at a table, and the nannies took care of them while they sat down.

Mingxiu and Kangxi led the older children to sit at one table, while Consort Wenxi and the others sat at another. After all, it would be a little awkward for them to sit together.

Kangxi and Mingxiu sat together in the main seat. To Kangxi's right sat Yinreng, Yinti, Yinzhen, and Yinzhi. To Mingxiu's left sat the Empress, the First Consort, the Third Consort, the Fourth Consort, and Chenghuan.

After taking his seat, Yinreng stood up, holding a wine cup, and said, "Mother Consort, this first cup of wine is to wish you good health and a long life."

Mingxiu nodded with a smile. She liked this blessing. Mingxiu didn't usually like to drink, but she would still have a little on special occasions like this.

Then everyone took turns standing up to toast Mingxiu.

After dinner, Mingxiu and Kangxi sat quietly in the courtyard. Mingxiu stood up and looked up at the moonlight in the sky.

Emperor Kangxi walked over and gently embraced Mingxiu.

Happy birthday, Xiuer.

Mingxiu paused in looking at the moonlight, and without turning her head, teased, "Alright, alright. How many times have I told you not to call me Xiuer? Xiuer, Xiuer, it sounds awful. Can't you just call me by my full name?"

Kangxi said helplessly, "What's wrong with it? I think it sounds great. I think any name that's yours sounds good."

Mingxiu couldn't help but grin and nudged Kangxi with her elbow, "You're really something. I've never seen you so eloquent when you were young, but you've gotten better and better at it now."

"It's all thanks to Xiuer's excellent teaching."

"Haha, alright, you're all grown up now. Aren't you ashamed if others hear this?" Mingxiu said, a little embarrassed.

Kangxi raised an eyebrow. He felt sorry for his wife, but now was not the time to argue with Mingxiu about this. "There's a lantern festival tomorrow night. Do you want to go see it together? Just the two of us, without them."

Mingxiu's eyes lit up. "Okay!"

Then the two looked at each other and smiled secretly.

When everyone got up the next day, they found that Kangxi and Mingxiu had already set off.

Although the lantern festival is at night, the two of them can still go out for a stroll during the day, it's not like they're only there for the lantern festival.

An ordinary couple walked down a street in the capital. They were unremarkable, but everyone who passed by couldn't help but smile knowingly.

Because this couple seemed to be very much in love.

"I already said I'm not eating anymore, I'm not eating anymore, I'm already full," Mingxiu said helplessly, pushing away the food that Kangxi offered.

"You only ate that little bit, how can you be full? Besides, this is what you drink every morning to supplement your nutrition, there's only a little bit left, be good, drink it quickly." Kangxi coaxed helplessly.

Unable to resist, Mingxiu could only take the milk from Kangxi's hand and drink it in small sips. Kangxi was holding the things Mingxiu had just bought, and there were some guards following behind him.

A young girl passing by looked at the couple with some envy, saying, "How wonderful it would be if my husband and I could still be like this when we're old."

Mingxiu and Kangxi spent the day out. In the morning, they wandered around, then had lunch at a restaurant. In the afternoon, one of them read a book. They enjoyed a pleasant afternoon reading picture books at the restaurant. When they got tired of reading, they played a game of Connect Four to relax. Of course, this was always when Mingxiu was thoroughly defeated.

Kangxi didn't really want to play this game because he always won easily. But if he won, Mingxiu would be unhappy; if he didn't win, Mingxiu would be even more unhappy because she felt she couldn't beat Kangxi. So Kangxi could only rack his brains each time, trying to win more slowly and with slightly more difficulty. But Mingxiu loved the game and became more determined with each setback, so Kangxi could only play it with a bittersweet pleasure.

This afternoon, when Kangxi won the tenth round, Myung-soo finally couldn't take it anymore.

"Why do you always win when we play? Why can't I win?" Mingxiu looked at the game on the board with a troubled expression. "If it were Go, I could understand not being able to win, but how can I not win at Gomoku? Besides, I'm the one who taught him this," Mingxiu thought indignantly.

Kangxi had no choice but to let the opponent win in the fourth round. He lost control for a moment, and Mingxiu noticed it quite obviously. So Mingxiu forced him not to let the opponent win, and that's how things ended up like this.

"Shall we still play? It's getting late, and it'll probably start soon. Why don't we go for a walk first?" Kangxi really didn't want to play such a boring game anymore. He glanced at the sky outside and saw that the lanterns were already lit, and said to Mingxiu.

Mingxiu glanced at the sky and realized it was getting late. "Okay, let's go down and take a look."

She put down the Go board, no longer wanting to play. She had been badly beaten that afternoon and needed something else to soothe her wounded heart.
