Chapter 2458 Gazing at Each Other in the Rain

Lanqin walked for a while when she suddenly felt someone following her. So she turned around and saw that there was someone just a few meters behind her, wearing a straw raincoat and holding an oil-paper umbrella, just like her.

Because the rain was so heavy, she couldn't see the person's face clearly. Lanqin realized she had stopped, and he had stopped too, clearly following her.

"Who are you? Why are you following me?" Lanqin shouted at the man. Judging from his raincoat, he should be a eunuch.

The man remained motionless, offering no reply to Lanqin, simply standing silently in the rain, separated from Lanqin by the torrential downpour.

Lanqin suddenly felt a little scared. Who exactly was this "eunuch" who was following her? At this moment, the palace road was almost deserted, and no one would run out at such a time.

"I am Consort Xi of Changchun Palace! Where are you a eunuch? Answer me!" Lanqin shouted sternly, mustering her courage.

"Qin'er!" Fourth Master finally spoke.

In fact, before Lanqin even stepped out of Changchun Palace, the Fourth Prince had already been standing in a corner near the entrance for quite some time. He was thinking about what he should say to Lanqin so that she wouldn't be angry with him, but after thinking for a long time, he still couldn't come up with a reason that was convincing enough. So, the Fourth Prince didn't go in. When Lanqin came out, the Fourth Prince recognized her at a glance. Because although she was wearing a palace maid's raincoat, Lanqin's figure and gait were unmistakable.

When Lanqin heard "Qin'er" through the torrential rain, she almost thought she had misheard.

"Qin'er, it's me!" the Fourth Prince said once again. The two hadn't seen each other for more than three months, and the voice seemed a little unfamiliar! Lanqin stood there, staring blankly at the Fourth Prince, who was dressed in a straw raincoat like those worn by eunuchs, not knowing what to say.

"Your Majesty, I pay my respects!" Lanqin was stunned for a moment before giving the Fourth Prince a curtsy.

"The rain is too heavy. Come with me to the Cuiwei Pavilion over there to take shelter from the rain!" the Fourth Prince said.

Although Lanqin could avoid the Fourth Prince in Changchun Palace, now that she had seen him, she could no longer refuse to see him. So she had no choice but to follow the Fourth Prince to Cuiwei Pavilion, which was the closest one to them.

Because of the heavy rain, there was naturally no one here.

After entering the pavilion, Fourth Master did not remove his raincoat and straw hat; he simply put away his oil-paper umbrella and placed it on the wooden railing beside him.

After Lanqin entered the pavilion, she also put away her oil-paper umbrella.

"Qin'er!" Fourth Master called out again.

"Your Majesty, I am here," Lanqin replied, adhering to protocol. This response was not heartfelt. The Fourth Prince shuddered and said, "I know you are angry with me. I am angry with myself too."

Lanqin then looked up at the Fourth Prince, gave a wry smile, and said, "Your Majesty, almost no one comes here, and with the heavy rain now, no one will come."

Fourth Master lowered his gaze and then reached out to remove the straw hat from his head.

"Since Your Majesty is so afraid of others seeing you see me, why did you come at all?" Lanqin said, suppressing the tenderness in her heart.

"Qin'er, I will give you and Hongli an explanation. I don't want you to suffer any more harm," the Fourth Prince said.

"But I'm afraid I can't do it. I'm a mother, and I can't watch my child be poisoned and have to force a smile for her. I can't do it," Lanqin said emotionally.
