Zhu Wanqing was furious and enraged. She raised her hand and slapped the two maids across the face, trying to wake them up.
With two sharp "slaps," even Zhu Wanqing felt a slight pain in her palms. However, to her surprise, the two maids showed no sign of waking up.
Outside, all was quiet. Zhu Wanqing put down the candlestick, shook the maid, and said urgently, "Wake up! Wake up quickly..." Zhu Wanqing realized something was wrong and her hands trembled as she checked the two of them for breath.
Thank goodness! They're all alive!
Zhu Wanqing breathed a sigh of relief, her anger replaced by renewed fear. She patted the maid's face, on the verge of tears, "Wake up... What's wrong with you all?"
The maid simply tilted her head heavily to the side, offering no further response. Zhu Wanqing was terrified, speechless, the fear making every bone in her body tremble.
"Am I dreaming?" Zhu Wanqing began to doubt herself, trembling. She mustered her courage and looked around. Everything was so familiar yet so strange. Zhu Wanqing pinched her thigh hard.
"Ouch...it hurts so much..." Zhu Wanqing kept groaning, the intense pain seemingly reminding her that this was not a dream. The sharp drop plunged Zhu Wanqing into fear again. Her heart was pounding, and with each beat, she felt her body rising upwards, as if she were about to float into the air. Zhu Wanqing was so frightened that she couldn't move, as if she were nailed to the ground.
"Is this a dream? I'm not dreaming..." Zhu Wanqing murmured, shaking her head. Then she suddenly began to shake the maids violently, hitting them, pinching their philtrum, and squeezing their thighs. But the maids just wouldn't move, as if they were dead.
"Don't scare me! Wake up! I promise I'll never kill anyone again! Wake up!" Zhu Wanqing cried. Never before had she felt so afraid. She felt as if she were standing on the edge of an abyss, walking on thin ice...
Suddenly, a terrible thought sprouted in Zhu Wanqing's mind...
"Could they have been drugged?" A voice echoed in Zhu Wanqing's mind. Drugs were the most common poison used by the White Lotus Sect, and Zhu Wanqing knew their effects like the back of her hand. The fear she had just experienced had almost made her lose her mind. Thinking of this, Zhu Wanqing quickly pried open the maid's eyelids to take a closer look, and then placed her fingers on the artery in the maid's neck to check a few times.
"She really was drugged!" Zhu Wanqing suddenly felt a shiver run through her body, pulled her hand back as if she had been electrocuted, and collapsed to the ground.
If a person's personal maid is drugged, who is responsible? And what is their motive?
Zhu Wanqing racked her brains, trying to figure it out. No outsiders had ever set foot on the island before, and everyone living there was one of her trusted confidants. She couldn't make heads or tails of it, but the unconscious maid before her was definitely drugged.
Zhu Wanqing's stomach suddenly twitched, and she clutched her belly, wincing and groaning in discomfort. Oh no, she'd probably hurt the baby!
Zhu Wanqing's last shred of reason told her she had to find the person as soon as possible. She struggled to her feet, panting heavily as large beads of sweat dripped down her face. Zhu Wanqing picked up the candlestick and, without hesitation, left Cangyue Tower, heading outsideā¦
As Zhu Wanqing walked, she called out, "Help! Is anyone there?"
But strangely enough, no one answered her...
