Xueying never expected that Madam Su would understand her so well. She had never been a woman with a good temper or a gentle nature. Back in the Duke of Ying's mansion, as the youngest daughter of the Duke, she was pampered and never needed to please anyone; others were the ones who had to please her.
When Xueying first approached the Su family, she did so with the intention of avoiding isolation in the inner quarters. However, as their interactions increased, Xueying gradually fell in love with this Su family member.
Madam Su was gentle and kind, and very beautiful. She was also pregnant with Hongli's first child; she was truly a blessed woman. From this moment on, Xueying genuinely enjoyed her relationship with Madam Su. Although they both served Hongli, and although Xueying knew that friendship was practically nonexistent among women in the inner quarters, since they were all serving the same man, they would inevitably turn against each other and vie for his favor sooner or later.
But at this moment, Xueying told herself from the bottom of her heart that she would stand with the Su family through thick and thin and would never do anything to hurt her.
"Consort, what's wrong?" Madam Su felt embarrassed when she saw Xueying staring at her without saying a word.
"Oh. It's nothing. I was just stunned by your beauty, sister. If I were a man, I would definitely marry a beauty like you," Xueying said jokingly.
“The concubine’s beauty is truly stunning; please don’t make fun of me,” Madam Su said, blushing.
"I know I'm beautiful, but my sister is just as beautiful," Xueying said, taking Su's hand in admiration.
Suddenly, Ms. Su felt a slight movement in her stomach.
"He moved! He moved!" Su said to Xueying with delight.
"What's wrong? You mean the baby in your belly is moving?" Xueying asked, looking at Su's belly with surprise.
"Hmm. It's the first time it's moved. It's not even three months yet!" Mrs. Su said with delight.
“Good, it can move, which means it’s growing well.” Xueying leaned down and put her ear to Su’s belly and said.
Ms. Su stroked her belly with great excitement and said, "I just hope he's healthy; I don't care whether it's a boy or a girl."
“It must be a prince.” Xueying straightened up and smiled.
"Don't talk nonsense, I still hope she'll be a princess." Madam Su looked around nervously.
“Sister, a prince is naturally the best, but a princess is also good. But why do you hope to give birth to a princess?” Xueying said, “Only a prince can be the foundation for you to gain status through your son in the future.”
"I became pregnant before the First Lady, and now you, the Second Lady, are already the target of jealousy. How could I possibly hope for a prince?" Lady Su said, bowing her head slightly.
"Sister Su, I don't care at all that you conceived Prince's child first," Xueying quickly said, taking Su's hand.
“I know, I know, but the principal wife might not think that way,” said Madam Su.
"What's wrong? Did she do something?" Xueying quickly asked. "Mother sent Granny Liu to take care of you during your pregnancy. You don't need to worry so much."
“The principal wife didn’t do anything, but I could sense that she was unhappy,” said Madam Su.
"Sister Su, you're overthinking it. Right now, you don't need to worry about who's happy or not. The important thing is to take good care of your pregnancy. The Fujin (Prince's wife) won't be particularly happy, after all, this child is the Prince's first child. If it's a prince, he'll be the Prince's eldest son," Xueying said.
Su then smiled and nodded.
