After returning to Langyue Pavilion in a huff, Gao grabbed a cup of tea and drank it down. She hadn't even had a sip of water at Su's place, and had come back fuming.
Seeing her mistress leave so excitedly and return so angry, the maidservant asked what had happened. "Princess, what's wrong?"
Madam Gao glanced at Xin'er, thinking that she would feel better if she spoke out. "Today I went to Madam Su's place, intending to advise her to stay away from the concubine, but I didn't expect that not only would she not listen, she would even tell me to get close to the concubine."
Xin'er usually knew how to please Madam Gao, and now that she saw Madam Gao was hurting her health because of Madam Su, she thought of a suggestion. "Princess, the concubine must have given Madam Su great benefits, that's why Madam Su is so devoted to her."

Xin'er thought that since her mistress would no longer associate with Madam Su, she should find someone else to befriend. She also thought of the things that the First Madam had just sent. Gao wondered why Mingyu, who rarely visited the temple, would suddenly send her something. It seemed that what she had talked about last time must have provoked her, and now she was trying to win her over.

Lady Gao realized her guess was correct; the Fujin (principal wife) was trying to win her over. This meant she and Lady Su would go from friends to enemies, and she hesitated.
Xin'er noticed Gao's worry and said, "Princess, since Su is now so close to the concubine, she won't listen to your earnest advice. She can't blame you for anything that happens in the future."
Xin'er wanted Gao Shi to side with Mingyu, since the principal wife was the person with the most power in the mansion besides the prince.
Lady Gao nodded. Since Lady Su and the concubine were in contact, she certainly couldn't have any further contact with her to avoid causing trouble. Now, the principal wife was extending her hand again. Should she accept it or not? If she were alone, no one would help her if something happened. Moreover, refusing the principal wife's offer would be tantamount to placing herself on the opposite side of her.
Gao thought that if she did anything to wrong Su in the future, Su wouldn't blame her; the current situation was all Su's own doing. She had no choice but to agree.
