Xueying hurriedly ran towards Hongli's tent. A'luo followed closely behind.
"Is Prince here?" Xueying ran to the front of the tent and asked the guards on both sides.
"Please wait a moment, Consort!" The soldiers guarding the door blocked her way.
"Let her in," Hongli's voice came through the heavy curtains.
Only then was Xueying able to go inside.
Hongli's tent was similar to his own, except that it contained some military maps and weapons.
Hongli, dressed in a yellow leather-trimmed cloak, stood with his hands behind his back in front of the map.
Xueying had never seen Hongli in armor before. Although he was not yet twenty years old, he was tall and upright, with an extraordinary bearing and noble air, exuding an aura of authority without anger.
Hongli turned around, and Xueying finally saw his face.
"Don't wander off. There's already fighting ahead, and I'll be heading to the front lines with Uncle Seventeen soon. You stay put in the rear and don't run around," Hongli said sternly. "There are wild animals everywhere here, so don't leave the camp by yourself. Do you understand?"
Seeing Hongli's serious expression, Xueying nodded and said, "This concubine wishes to go to the front lines with Your Highness."
Hongli's pupils contracted, and he said angrily, "The front line is a man's battlefield. What are you, a woman, doing there?"
This woman always thinks differently from others.
“Who says that’s only a battlefield for men? There was Mulan who took her father’s place in the army, and Mu Guiying who led the army—both were women. Your Highness, why can’t I, Ulanara Xueying, go?” Xueying said.
Hongli was speechless after hearing her words.
"You're going on an inspection tour this time. What are you going there for?" Hongli was taken aback for a moment before realizing what was going on and asked.
"I will dress up as one of Prince Beile's guards. I want to see the heroic bearing of the soldiers of my Great Qing," Xueying said.
Hongli looked at Xueying, seemingly trying to figure out her true intentions. Most women are afraid of swords and spears, so why was she still going?
"Is Your Highness wondering why Xueying isn't afraid?" Xueying asked Hongli with a slight smile.
Hongli had no choice but to nod.
"Because when my grandfather, Fei Yanggu, was still alive, he often held me and told me about his heroic deeds of following the Holy Ancestor Emperor in his bloody battles. Since I was a child, I have longed to be a man who could don armor and fight on the battlefield, to serve the Great Qing Dynasty and protect its country. It's just a pity that Xueying was born a woman and could only spend her whole life in the inner quarters. Now, I can come here and go with Prince to see the soldiers of the three armies. For Xueying, this is the fulfillment of a great wish in her life." Xueying said in a gentle voice.
Hongli certainly knew the name Feiyanggu; the old Duke of Ying was a key minister of the Kangxi Emperor.
Ulanara Xueying is reminding me that she comes from a prestigious family!
"Your Highness, no one will find out. Please let me go." Xueying said when she saw that Hongli remained silent.
Hongli thought for a moment, and then nodded and said, "Alright, if you can keep quiet and not be scared out of your wits, I will go with you."
"It's a deal." Xueying smiled brightly, raised her hand, and wanted to give Hongli a clap.
Hongli ignored him and turned back to look at the map, saying only, "Meet at the place where the bugle sounds in one hour."
Xueying didn't mind and happily returned to her tent.
"What? Master, you want to change into men's clothing and go to the front line with Prince?" A'Luo almost dropped her jaw.
