The sky was just beginning to lighten, and the dew was cool and the wind was crisp.
Today is a cloudy day, the sky and earth are dim, and there is a faint mist in the air, giving people a feeling that a storm is about to break.
Pang Hongxin led an elite squad of thirty men, waiting for something at the entrance of the gathering place.
Those thirty people were all handpicked by Pang Hongxin; each of them had a long, steady breath and a resolute face.
Eight warriors, eight knights, five assassins, three mages, three archers, and three priests.
This lineup of thirty people is extremely well-equipped.
Pang Hongxin was still dressed as a scholar, holding his iron fan in his hand.
"Boss, it's time to go," someone reminded him from the side.
"No rush, let's wait a bit longer," Pang Hongxin said with a smile, waving his hand.
Everyone was somewhat surprised. Who could be so capable of making Pang Hongxin wait so willingly?
It should be noted that Pang Hongxin is no saint.
Waiting time always feels incredibly long, like when you're doing a plank, a minute feels like an hour.
Time passed slowly, and as it drew ever closer to eight o'clock, Pang Hongxin couldn't help but squint his eyes.
Finally, just before eight o'clock, a figure wearing a black robe and a bronze mask appeared eerily before everyone.
No one noticed how this person appeared; it was as if he had always been there.
"Who goes there?!"
Pang Hongxin's men were startled and immediately raised their weapons, aiming them at the figure!
"Put it down! You must not be rude to our distinguished guest!"
Pang Hongxin gave a soft shout, and everyone lowered their guard.
Then Pang Hongxin said to Qiao Suinian with a smile.
"Young friend, you are really punctual. You said eight o'clock, and it was eight o'clock right away."
As Pang Hongxin spoke, his gaze involuntarily drifted to the stick Qiao Suinian was carrying. He remembered that Qiao Suinian had previously used a long sword.
"Didn't Brother Pang tell me we'd leave at eight o'clock? I'm afraid that if I come too early, it will affect Brother Pang's troop deployment," Qiao Suinian explained.
"No, that won't happen. Since you're here, let's set off!" Pang Hongxin said with a smile.
The sky remained a hazy gray.
Tianyun Temple is located on Mati Mountain, the northernmost part of Jinghai City.
Horseshoe Mountain is the dividing point between Jinghai City and its neighboring cities. The entire mountain is roughly square, with cliffs almost all around, making it extremely high and precipitous. There is only one road leading to the top of the mountain, hence the name Horseshoe Mountain.
The journey to Tianyun Temple was almost entirely northward. Qiao Suinian and Pang Hongxin's group traveled for two days before finally approaching Mati Mountain.
The alien races they encountered along the way were all dealt with directly by Pang Hongxin's men, without Qiao Suinian having to lift a finger.
Once you enter Mati Mountain, the population becomes sparse.
Looking at the magnificent mountain before him, Qiao Suinian couldn't help but marvel at the wonders of nature.
The sun was already setting in the west. Pang Hongxin glanced at the sky and then spoke to Qiao Suinian.
"Young friend, it's already dark. How about we find a place to rest at the foot of the mountain and climb up again early the next morning?"
Qiao Suinian nodded. Putting aside the fact that Horseshoe Mountain is not easy to climb, it would be no fun if they encountered some flying aliens while climbing up the mountain in the dark.
The footsteps of a group of about thirty people sounded somewhat noisy in the setting sun.
By the time they reached the foot of Horseshoe Mountain, it was completely dark. Several bonfires were lit at the foot of the mountain, their flames flickering in the darkness.
"Sure enough, other people have arrived as well, and there are quite a few of them."
Pang Hongxin narrowed his eyes, but didn't say much. He simply ordered his men to set up camp.
In the dark wilderness, it is extremely common for strangers to gather together and form a small camp to defend against those terrifying alien races.
The others glanced up at Pang Hongxin and his group, but when they saw that the group numbered about thirty, they immediately looked away.
Pang Hongxin was well aware of what these people were looking at. If he brought too few men, these people might come up and ask to "borrow" some equipment or something.
In the end times, none of those who can leave shelters and live in the wild will be good men and women.
Just after Pang Hongxin and the others had set up their makeshift tents, two more men arrived at the camp.
The man walking in front was slender and wore a well-fitting suit. He exuded elegance, like a noble young master who had stepped out of a grand palace. He wore a white smiling mask, obscuring his face.
The man walking behind was wearing a black shirt, with a strong, muscular build and a bushy beard.
Qiao Suinian glanced at the burly man behind him and then looked away, but when he saw the thin man in front of him, his eyes narrowed instantly.
This person gave him the feeling that... he was very strong! Stronger than any enemy Qiao Suinian had encountered since his rebirth!
Qiao Suinian even sensed a faint sense of danger emanating from this man.
Just as Qiao Suinian was staring at the man, the man also noticed Qiao Suinian's gaze. He turned his head, and the two men's eyes met through their masks.
"Huh?"
Ye Difeng let out a soft exclamation, because he couldn't see through the guy wearing the bronze mask in front of him, which was extremely rare.
"Young...Big Brother, what's wrong?"
Gan Er almost blurted out the word "young master," but realizing his mistake, he quickly corrected himself.
"Nothing much, just ran into someone interesting." Ye Difeng's lips curled into a smile, and a hint of interest appeared in his eyes.
