Son of Light 5
"Duke Sadria, now you finally understand, right?" Lucius said softly.
The Duke gritted his teeth but could do nothing. He looked at Luli, but Luli did not look at him. He just withdrew his hand silently.
Those who awaken the divine power must be brought back to the Holy Court. Even the imperial laws cannot prevent this. Moreover, the oracle in front is enough to take him away.
In this era when theocracy was higher than royal power, almost no country dared to openly resist the Holy See, especially the Church of Light, which was at its peak of power.
Lucius asked Luli's opinion just to show him enough respect, but the man had to go.
Luli avoided the Duke and Duchess's murderous gazes, and for the first time, an inexplicable power surged in his chest. Thinking back to the man he met a few days ago, Luli suspected that all this was related to that man.
There was no other reason. What the man said was too coincidental, and the oracle came too suddenly. It was the Pope himself who came. It was no wonder that he didn't have doubts.
However, the oracle came at the right time, just enough to rescue him from this man-eating castle.
He raised his head with a stern gaze and said:
"Your Excellency the Pope, I am willing to follow you. I will serve the God of Light forever and never disobey."
Lucius smiled and nodded, and Luli looked up at the Duke again, staring into his blue eyes that matched his own.
"Your Excellency, I voluntarily give up the title of Young Duke and the family inheritance. Please expel me from the territory."
"You!" the Duke shouted, clenching his hands.
"Don't even think about it. You will always belong to the Sadleriya family. You will never be able to get rid of this surname in your lifetime! You..."
He glanced at Lucius, who was already looking displeased behind Luli, and the guests around him who all had strange expressions on their faces. He stopped what was about to come out of his mouth and restrained his overly outrageous expression. He straightened his wrinkled clothes and said after a moment of calmness:
"I was too out of control just now. I apologize to you, Your Holiness."
Denise had come up behind him at some point and was now bowing slightly to apologize with him. If Denise hadn't pinched him from behind just now, he would have almost used force.
The Duke's face was gloomy as he thought about it, and he couldn't help but sigh inwardly, what a pity, what a pity, he was so close to success.
"Follow the oracle and strip Luli Sadlia of his title as Young Duke. Your Holiness the Pope can take him away, but..." He paused and continued:
"He will still retain his inheritance rights and will not be expelled from the territory."
This was his last concession, otherwise... The Duke bowed his head and a hint of viciousness flashed in his eyes.
"Father, why do you..."
Aiden stood behind them and was extremely surprised. His parents hated him as their brother, but why did he suddenly behave so irrationally? It was strange, very strange.
He couldn't help but look at Luli with a complicated look in his eyes. He couldn't tell what he felt towards his brother. He couldn't say he liked him, but he didn't hate him either. They basically didn't run into each other. Occasionally, when he saw Luli, he would pass by with an indifferent look on his face, never giving him a chance to speak.
Now that he was about to leave, he felt a little reluctant. Aiden raised his foot and walked towards Luli, but was stopped before he took half a step.
"Shut up." Denise stood in front of him and glared at him fiercely.
Aiden immediately took a few steps back in fear. He had never seen such a strange look on his mother's face before. Angry, twisted, vicious, these several expressions twisted together made the whole face look particularly hideous and fleeting.
Lucius's expression eased a little. It seemed that the Duke was not so stupid as to embarrass him in front of so many people. He would not use force easily unless necessary.
However, this is the missionary territory of the Church of the God of War after all, so it is not convenient for them to stay here for long. He has also seen the child mentioned in the oracle, so he picked up Luli and planned to go back to the Vatican directly.
With the farewell of the banquet guests, the group came and went in a hurry, taking only Luli, the child, with them.
Apart from the guests who continued to enjoy the banquet, the Duke's family's expressions became particularly exciting.
Before leaving, Lucius asked Luli if he wanted to take any luggage. Luli shook his head without thinking. He didn't have anything valuable, except for the gorgeous-looking clothes he was wearing.
The Duke had thrown away the relics that originally belonged to his mother long ago, and he was too young at that time to know where they were thrown.
In this way, the group hurried to the Holy See of Light on the night road. The road was brightly lit. The paladins were divided into two rows, riding tall and fine horses and guarding the luxuriously decorated carriage.
Under the overflow of divine power, the surrounding convoy seemed to be immersed in a sea of light. Countless white light particles revolved around the team, making it look like a giant walking light bulb at night.
Luli looked at the novelty through the car window, and a look of longing appeared on his usually expressionless face. A slight pain came from the palms of his clenched hands.
Luli lowered his head and spread out his palm, on which lay quietly an ancient whistle. The whistle was long and pure white in color. It was made of an unknown material, but it felt warm to the touch. It was also inlaid with a blue magic stone, but the magic stone had a dull luster, so there must be no magic power in it.
This was something Daisy stuffed into his hand before she left. She was the only person in the castle who was kind and friendly to Luli. Luli clearly remembered what Daisy said to him:
"Child, don't come back once you leave. This is your mother's legacy. I secretly saved it. I was afraid you couldn't keep it, so I kept it for you. Now that you are leaving, I give it to you as a keepsake."
Daisy wiped the tears from her eyes. "Madam was a kind and fragile person. It's a pity that she passed away too early. I still remember the scene when I first met her. What a beautiful person. It's a pity..."
"child..."
When Luli came to his senses, he found Lucius sitting opposite him, smiling at him, and sighed softly:
"I called you several times just now, but you didn't come back to your senses. Are you missing home so soon?"
Luli shook his head and remained silent.
"We're about to leave the Dukedom of Sadria. Take one last look at the place where you've lived for over a decade. You won't be able to return for another decade or so," Lucius reminded.
Luli didn't want to look at first, but the Pope's gaze was so oppressive that he had to open a car window and stick his head out to look back.
At this time, they had entered the border between the territory and the Church of Light - the Azeroth Mountains. The carriage was driving steadily on the hillside. Luli looked down and saw the twinkling lights in the Sadria territory at night, which was very beautiful.
With his silver hair brushing against his cheeks in the wind, Luli quietly looked at the Dukedom of Sadlia which was getting farther and farther away, and said something silently in his heart.
"goodbye."
