Chapter 10 All the Superpowered People in the Class Want Me Dead
At night, someone knelt in front of Ji Huaizhi's tent. It was the parent holding the child. She pleaded softly, "Please, give us some food."
"Please, I promise I won't talk about it outside."
"No one saw me when I came over." She just wanted to try, unsure if they would actually give it to her.
Ji Huaizhi tossed her a bag of chocolates without saying a word.
The other party was quite sensible; after kowtowing, they immediately fed the child, making sure the child ate everything, saying, "Don't speak."
The more you talk, the easier it is for others to notice.
Leaving a little bit would be easily discovered, and we might not be able to eat it then.
In this situation, only what you eat is truly yours.
"Do you dare to take the child away by yourself?" Ji Huaizhi's voice reached her ears.
The woman looked up at him in surprise.
Ji Huaizhi picked up the chocolate wrapper from the ground and tore it open to reveal a crooked little figure.
After being placed on the ground, the little figure managed to stand up on its own, albeit unsteadily.
"If you dare to go alone with the child, follow this paper figure. It will take you to the base, but you don't know what you will encounter along the way."
The woman looked down at the little figure on the ground.
She looked up at the man pleadingly, "Can I go with you?"
Ji Huaizhi remained silent, which was also a form of silent rejection.
She thought that if she went on her own, she might encounter zombies on the way, but if she stayed here, she felt that she and her son might starve to death.
These people are all from prison, and they're taking ordinary people like us along, it's definitely not out of kindness.
What will they do when they can't find supplies?
“I can… take care of the child alone,” the woman said softly, hugging the child tightly.
Ji Huaizhi: "Wait."
He turned and went into the tent, and everyone looked at him: "Brother... what do you want?"
"Give me what I just asked you to pack." Ji Huaizhi reached out his hand.
Lai Chao picked up the bag next to him and handed it to him.
The woman slung her bag over her shoulder and looked around nervously: "Just... this way?"
She felt the bag on her back was heavy, and instantly felt much more at ease.
She felt that as long as she and her child stayed hidden, she could safely find the base.
The little boy jumped onto the woman's shoulder, and she picked up her son and carefully walked towards the edge of the jungle.
Not far away in the crowd, a dark figure moved and headed towards the woman and child.
The night was pitch black, the only light being the full moon hanging in the sky. The woman was so nervous that sweat dripped down her face, and she covered her son's mouth tightly.
They were afraid of making any noise and being discovered.
The moment she stepped into the jungle, the vegetation outside seemed to grow a little denser.
The man who followed her could no longer find the woman.
He saw the woman ask the people in the tent for food, and then she took a bag and left. He figured it must contain supplies.
They wanted to intercept him, but suddenly he disappeared.
Just as he was debating whether to betray them, something got tangled around his feet.
Just as he was about to scream for help, vines that sprang out of the jungle blocked his mouth and then he was swept into the jungle.
When the woman could no longer run through the jungle, she put her child down.
She felt particularly uneasy and nervous in the jungle, as if something was watching her.
The panic completely disappeared after I came out.
The little man jumped off her shoulder and took her to a place to rest.
This place is so remote that there are no zombies if there are no people. The only place to rest is against a large rock.
I took off my backpack, grabbed a piece of soft bread, and shared it with my son before I felt alive again.
She held the little figure carefully, as if afraid it would be blown away by the wind.
After Ji Huaizhi and the others left, Lai Chao and the others came out: "I didn't expect you to have prepared these things for her. A widow and her child, how can they survive in this world?"
"If she doesn't trust others too easily, it should be okay."
Then they saw a dark figure follow them.
Lai Chao pointed in that direction: "He..."
"It's alright, have you forgotten what we found in the jungle?" Ji Huaizhi said nonchalantly.
Lai Chao: "The woman and the child?"
"I sprinkled something on the little people who took them away, so the things in the jungle won't harm them. Isn't this man just delivering food to their door?"
Lai Chao saw the dark figure suddenly disappear, and felt a chill run down his spine.
"His intentions were impure; he deserved it," Lai Chao hissed.
Li Xin and Feng Qiao, who were in the tent next to each other, came back and poked their heads out: "We want to go to the restroom."
Lai Chao turned around: "Brother Qiang, let's get to work."
After thinking about it, he followed suit: "I want to go too. I'm too scared to get up alone at night."
Ji Huaizhi turned around and said something to Chen Peng and Tang Bao inside. The two of them got up and left the tent: "Let's go to the restroom too."
The two of them went in the opposite direction from Lai Chao.
Da Hu assigned two people to watch over them. One followed Lai Chao and his group, while the other, after some thought, followed Chen Peng and Tang Bao.
Their split-up suggests there might be some conspiracy at play.
I wondered if they were planning to steal supplies.
But unexpectedly, he was buried in the ground after walking only twenty meters.
On the other side, Xie Jiaqiang, who was guarding not far away, noticed the movement ahead and flew directly over a piece of hard ice.
The shadowy figure was immediately frozen, forming an ice sculpture.
Li Xin and Feng Qiao came over after they finished: "This is Da Hu's man."
Xie Jiaqiang nodded: "Let's go back."
Song Shu kept a vigilant eye on her surroundings. She had a clear view of the situation around the tent, including the woman carrying the child leaving with her belongings.
After hesitating for a moment, Song Shu still went to the tent entrance.
She saw Ji Huaizhi as soon as she arrived. Without any hesitation, she got straight to the point: "I want to join you. I have superpowers, and I have two superpowers."
Ji Huaizhi looked at her, surprised that she had dual superpowers.
Song Shu's current ability level is very low, so she is recuperating in this team and preparing to leave when she has the opportunity.
But now she sees that Ji Huaizhi's group is different from Da Hu's group.
Moreover, their team also includes two female students, one of whom does not yet possess superpowers.
So she changed her mind and wanted to join them.
"Join us? Aren't we already on the same team?" Ji Huaizhi couldn't resist teasing her, seeing her serious face covered in dirt.
“I know you are different from people who come out of prison.”
“You’re not in cahoots.” Song Shu said seriously, “If you let me follow you, you’ll definitely not lose out.”
Ji Huaizhi nodded: "Okay, we came here to find you anyway."
Song Shu didn't understand the meaning of those words.
Just then, his companions returned, and Ji Huaizhi looked at Li Xin and said, "Give her some water and help her tidy up."
Song Shu looked down at herself and knew that she was somewhat disliked for looking like this.
Li Xin took her to an open space and washed her whole body with a large amount of water. Song Shu couldn't even open her eyes because of the volume of water.
"Alright, go change your clothes in the tent." Li Xin smiled apologetically.
