Chapter 13 My Fierce Wife
"You must have come here today for a reason, but the prerequisite is that you and your daughter separate first before we can talk about marriage."
Ji Huaizhi was stunned: "So fast?"
"Soon? I'm already an old maid. As long as you find a partner, we'll get married by the end of the year." She was serious.
The number of people going on blind dates these days is so high that you could bump into them on the street.
The parents were also worried. Although the two older brothers didn't say anything, their wives had long had complaints.
If she didn't hand over her salary every month, there would be countless arguments at home.
"But I have nothing now." Ji Huaizhi said, lacking confidence.
"How can you say you have nothing? Are you a member of the Ji family? If you don't fight or compete, then of course you won't have anything." Feng Qiaoxiang handed him the empty bottle: "Didn't you want to send your daughter to school? Haven't you considered how you'll send your daughter to school if you have nothing?"
After they had finished chatting, Feng Qiaoxiang took a handful of fruit candies from her pocket and gave them to him: "These are for your daughter."
"I have to go to work, so I won't say anything more."
When Zhang Xiuhua returned with her dog, Feng Qiaoxiang was no longer there.
"How did your chat go?"
After Ji Huaizhi finished speaking, Zhang Xiuhua clapped her hands: "Go back and tell your uncle."
"Your leg is almost healed, so why don't you get things done before the end of the year?"
Ji Huaizhi helped carry the things: "Is this alright?"
"Why not? It's the end of the year, and there are so many matchmakers. Aren't you afraid someone will introduce someone better to the Feng family, and you'll end up with nothing?"
That evening, Zhang Xiuhua told Wang Dashan about it.
After discussing it, the couple decided to go to Ji Shichui next week to get this matter settled.
The next day, good news was announced.
The village officials read out the document issued by the commune. Everyone only remembered one sentence: "Pay enough to the state, keep enough for the collective, and the rest is yours."
The land, livestock, and farm tools were distributed according to the population.
I've worked so hard this year, but the work points will only be allocated and settled at the end of the year.
Everyone's faces turned red with excitement.
Wang Dashan felt this was a good opportunity, so he inquired about when the neighboring village would be measuring the land, and that very night he gathered his two brothers to discuss it.
"This time, you've completely fallen out with them. Don't let yourself be easily swayed by what others say and rush back to your side."
These words were spoken by my second uncle.
He had drunk some alcohol, which was reflected in his face, and he reeked of it.
He was extremely disappointed in his nephew.
“Yes, you have to come with us tomorrow. Don’t let your stepmother lie on the ground and your dad say a few nice words and you just let it go. If that happens, you can’t call me uncle anymore.”
"Thank you, uncles. I will remember your kindness. I've had enough of the old life. I want to live with dignity."
"I will definitely repay you in the future."
They didn't take those words to heart; they were only doing it out of respect for their younger sister and didn't expect anything in return.
As Ji Gou'er was going to bed at night, he kept asking his father, "When will Sister Qiaoxiang become my mom?"
Ji Huaizhi ruffled her yellowish hair: "Let's wait until the New Year."
"Then I'll have a mother during the Chinese New Year."
The next morning, all of the Wang family members except for the children and women went out.
When they arrived at the destination, the village had already measured the land and everyone had drawn lots to divide it. Some people felt that their land was not fertile enough, while others felt that their land was too short.
Everyone was making a lot of noise, but they all quieted down when they saw so many people from the neighboring village.
"Damn it! Your idiot son is back!"
"Idiot, is your leg really crippled? Does that mean you'll be known as Cripple Ji from now on?"
Wang Xiaoer's face hardened: "Who are you calling a fool? Believe me or not, I'll beat you into a cripple!"
The man quickly turned his palm outwards and said, "I was just joking, brother, it's not that serious."
Wang Xiaoer pointed at him: "You bullied my brother, do you think that's too much to ask?"
When Ji Shichui saw that his eldest son had really returned, his face immediately fell when he saw that his son was limping: "Are you really limping? Didn't you say you went to the hospital?"
Wang Dashan shoved Ji Shichui aside: "We're too late! The doctor said it was too late!"
"Why didn't you take him to the hospital immediately after the accident? What are you pretending to be a good person for now? Huaizhi is in this state because of you!"
Ji Shichui lost his balance and fell to the ground with a thud. His lips trembled a few times, and he couldn't utter a single word as he looked at his son's icy gaze.
"What are you doing?" Ji Jianguo jumped out and shouted.
The villagers are all here; he doesn't believe these people would dare to make a move in front of so many people.
"Exactly! So what if he's lame? What's the big deal?" Ji Jianshe scoffed. "It's his own fault for not paying attention, and you guys are making a scene."
"Ji Huaizhi, are you even a member of the Ji family anymore? Bringing outsiders to cause trouble for your family, I think you're just looking for trouble!"
Wang Xiaoer raised his hand to punch someone.
Ji Jianshe was so frightened that he hid behind his older brother.
"No hitting anyone!" The village chief, with his pipe in his mouth and hands behind his back, shouted, "Put your hands down!"
Wang Dashan pressed his son's hand down.
"Don't cause trouble in our village." The village chief looked at Wang Dashan: "Brother Wang, if so many people fight in our village, it will have a different meaning."
Wang Dashan: "I didn't intend to fight. I just came to ask for a way out for my nephew."
After listening, the village chief took two puffs of his cigarette and said, "Old Ji, this is your third brother-in-law. Take him back and deal with him behind closed doors!"
Ji Shichui nodded.
But how could the Wang family agree?
Second Uncle: "That won't do. The village chief must be a witness."
"Me, a witness?" the village chief asked, puzzled. "What could I possibly witness about your family's affairs?"
Wang Dashan spoke up: "My nephew wants to divide the family property."
Huang Zhaodi was bragging to someone on the other side about how they had been allocated a good plot of land when someone suddenly came over to her and said that Ji Huaizhi had returned.
She was also accompanied by members of the Wang family. The first thing she heard upon arriving was, "Dividing the family property?"
"Divide my ass! Wang Dashan, if you're going to die, come to my house and cause trouble. I bet none of you Wang family members have good intentions!"
As soon as Huang Zhaodi came over, she went up to scratch people.
"Shut up!" Ji Shichui roared, then looked at them: "Is this division of the family your idea or my son's idea?"
Ji Huai stepped forward: "I asked my uncle and the others to come."
"Ji Huaizhi, you heartless bastard! Why didn't you just die? Why did you even split the family property?" Huang Zhaodi was about to step forward and hit him, but Ji Shichui held her back tightly.
"Let go of me! He's already trying to split the family business before you're even dead."
"That makes no sense."
Third Uncle: "Why don't we separate the family? Are you just going to let him beat and scold you like that? He's a grown man, and you don't treat him like a human being at all!"
"Who does he think he is? I'm telling you, it's impossible!" Huang Zhaodi jumped up angrily and said, "Dividing the family property is out of the question!"
"He has to work for our family for the rest of his life! He has to be our family's slave for the rest of his life!"
"Look at this, everyone!" Wang Dashan trembled with anger. "This kind of person, this kind of vicious person, I can now imagine what kind of life Ji Huaizhi has been living all these years!"
"Ji Shichui, are you just going to watch like this? Is that what you think too?"
"How could you face my sister? How could you face Ji Huaizhi?"
Ji Huaizhi didn't look at Huang Zhaodi, but only at Ji Shichui.
