Chapter 19 The Ungrateful Childhood Sweetheart
"So your family often produces talented people."
After resting for a few days, the two of them started getting busy one after another.
The library is temporarily closed, so Jiang Xiaomei went to the girls' dormitory to promote campus takeout and distribute small cards.
Ji Huaizhi went to the internet cafe and the men's dormitory. After he finished, he had to go to the neighboring school to work.
During this busy period, the two couldn't even see each other, only at night in their rented apartment.
Ji Huaizhi only felt completely relaxed after the new students started military training.
However, the senior students couldn't compete with the freshmen who were in military training for food, so the campus food delivery business was booming during this period, and Ji Huaizhi simply hired two more people.
That day, he was eating out with Zhou Peng again, carrying a late-night snack he had packed for Jiang Xiaomei. As soon as he entered the house, he saw that there were many colorful lights hanging inside.
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you!
Happy birthday, Ji Huaizhi!
He forgot that today was the original owner's birthday.
Jiang Xiaomei brought out a piece of the recently popular chocolate fruit cake.
She presented it to Ji Huaizhi with a beaming smile.
That adorable, oblivious expression made Ji Huaizhi unable to resist reaching out and pinching it.
What are you doing?
"Thank you, I'm very happy. I'm late, have you been waiting for a long time?"
"No, I'm on the night shift at the library today." Jiang Xiaomei held the cake in one hand: "Come and make a wish."
"I made a wish in my heart." Just as he finished speaking and was about to blow out the candles, Jiang Xiaomei covered his mouth.
"No, close your eyes and pray."
Ji Huaizhi raised an eyebrow in agreement, and as he closed his eyes, he heard a slight noise.
Jiang Xiaomei quietly placed the prepared gift box on the table, and tilted her head to look at him when he opened his eyes: "Hurry up and blow out the candles."
After blowing out the candles, Ji Huaizhi looked at the gift on the table: "Is this for me?"
Jiang Xiaomei nodded: "Yes, I heard people in the city say that a child's birthday and coming-of-age ceremony are very important. I remember back in my hometown, killing a chicken and stewing some meat was considered a very lavish birthday celebration."
"I'll make your birthday celebration special this time too."
"Brother, you've worked hard these past few days. Here's a small gift, please accept it." Jiang Xiaomei picked up the item and playfully handed it to Ji Huaizhi with both hands.
Ji Huaizhi took the gift box and touched the Yageer logo on it: "So you used all the money you earned from selling boxed lunches to buy this suit?"
Jiang Xiaomei looked up: "Of course, I also want to give you a gift, a gift I bought for you with my own money."
"Brother, do you like it?"
Ji Huaizhi pulled her head back, and she stared blankly, feeling the breath of the person in front of her.
"I like it." He tucked her hair behind her ear. "I like everything Xiaomei gives me."
Jiang Xiaomei's heart softened, and her eyes welled up with tears.
"Oh dear, why are you doing this?" Jiang Xiaomei turned her head and nudged him: "Go try it, just try it."
Ji Huaizhi was pushed into the room by him, but he couldn't hear her nasal voice.
As she changed her clothes and opened the door, Jiang Xiaomei turned around and saw a different side of the man in front of her.
The man stiffly tugged at his suit collar with his fingertips.
The dark trousers without wrinkles hugged his straight legs, giving him an aloof and unapproachable air. His usually youthful and easygoing eyes suddenly revealed a sharpness that was not usually seen.
The man in front of her felt both familiar and unfamiliar to Jiang Xiaomei.
"I'm not very good at making this tie." Ji Huaizhi held up a basic style tie.
Jiang Xiaomei only came to her senses at this moment.
"The shop assistant taught me, so I'll do it."
Jiang Xiaomei's fingertips accidentally touched Ji Huai's Adam's apple, which was bobbing up and down, and her heart was pounding.
Taking a step back, his tie gave him a restrained air of dignity.
"Brother, you look really good in a suit."
"Just like the male protagonist in a novel."
Jiang Xiaomei spoke softly.
Ji Huaishang stepped closer to her, his gentle eyes suddenly becoming menacing, his toes pressing closer with each step.
Jiang Xiaomei retreated in a bit of a panic.
Unexpectedly, he suddenly reached out and lifted his chin: "Woman, are you testing my limits?"
Jiang Xiaomei's eyes suddenly widened
Ji Huaizhi chuckled: "A male lead like this?"
"Oh dear, why are you like this?" Jiang Xiaomei said, embarrassed.
The two of them couldn't finish the cake, so they shared some with the neighbor's grandmother. After cleaning up, Jiang Xiaomei found two novels and asked Ji Huaizhi, dressed in a suit, to read them to her.
She blushed for a moment and then laughed.
After the start of this semester, Jiang Xiaomei began to seriously study.
She barely passed the exam, and because she hadn't experienced the hardship of studying, she was quite satisfied with her score.
Ji Huaizhi was happy for her to see that she had passed the exam. When others said that this exam was not very valuable, he comforted her and told her not to overthink it, because everything that exists has its reason.
In fact, Jiang Xiaomei didn't care; she had already passed the age of loving to study.
Now she enjoys making money, reading novels, and reading Ji Huaizhi.
When Wan Jie came to the library, she saw her engrossed in writing something at the counter.
I cautiously approached and leaned over the bar: "What are you doing?"
"Ouch!" Jiang Xiaomei was startled, clutching her chest and glaring at her: "You scared me."
After saying that, she quickly picked up the notebook and held it to her chest: "You're invading my privacy."
"Oh, so you know about privacy now?" Wan Jie said with a smile. "What are you writing? Are you writing a sentimental poem for your brother?"
Jiang Xiaomei leaned closer with a mischievous grin: "I'm writing a novel."
"I've been getting visually fatigued and dizzy from looking at things lately, so I want to try writing them myself."
Wan Jie raised an eyebrow: "Sure, do you want me to take a look?"
Jiang Xiaomei immediately nodded: "Yes!"
"You help me take a look. If I show it to Brother Huaizhi, he'll definitely laugh at me."
After saying that, he handed over the notebook, but there wasn't much written on it, so you couldn't tell much.
However, Wan Jie has an encouraging personality: "Sure, but I think you can skip these words, otherwise they seem a bit long-winded."
Wan Jie pointed it out to her, and Jiang Xiaomei leaned closer to listen attentively.
"Why don't you try submitting your work? I think your idea is pretty good."
"Huh? I don't think I can do it." Jiang Xiaomei's expression was somewhat conflicted.
"Give it a try. First, modify it according to my instructions, and then I'll tell you about a platform. You can just upload it here..." Wan Jie instructed her, "After that, just type it on the computer. There's no harm in using the library's computers."
The two women stood timidly in front of the computer, while Jiang Xiaomei watched intently.
"Wan Jie, you know so much."
Wan Jie said with a smug look, "It's just so-so. I've tried before, but everything I wrote was rejected."
"I'm not in the mood for it now, I'll just see for myself."
"If you can't do it, then I definitely can..." Jiang Xiaomei was cut off by Wan Jie before she could finish her sentence.
"Don't say those things. Whether it works or not is not important. You're just trying. You can write it down for yourself."
Jiang Xiaomei: "If I were a man, I would definitely pursue you."
Wan Jie smoothed her long hair back and said, "I'm not the kind of woman who can be attracted to just any man."
