Chapter 20 The Ungrateful Childhood Sweetheart

Chapter 20 The Ungrateful Childhood Sweetheart

Wan Jie's little expression looked cute and playful.

Jiang Xiaomei found it amusing: "Beautiful Wan, would you do me the honor of coming to my house for dinner tonight? Thank you for recommending the suit to me last time, and thank you for helping me revise the manuscript today."

Wan Jie was a little conflicted; she wasn't very familiar with Ji Huaizhi, which made things awkward.

Jiang Xiaomei understood her expression: "Oh, don't worry, my brother went to another school. I'm home alone. I'll make you some braised pork."

Upon hearing this, Wan Jie immediately agreed: "Then I'll come find you when you get off work."

"But your Ji Huaizhi is something else, going to extend this campus food delivery service to other schools?"

Jiang Xiaomei held her chin in her hands: "Our livelihood depends on Ji Huaizhi. We should definitely make money while we can. Now that I don't need to study anymore, I want to go back to setting up my stall."

He looked at Wan Jie and held up four fingers: "During the summer vacation, the two of us set up a stall to sell boxed lunches, and we earned three or four thousand yuan a month."

"I'm thinking of setting up a food stall on the back street when I'm not working the night shift."

Wan Jie didn't know what her family's situation was, and her family didn't help, but she felt a little uneasy when she heard that she wanted to set up a stall after get off work.

"But don't you still want to write something?"

"You can get paid for writing things online now. Why don't you try that first, and if it doesn't work out, you can try setting up a stall."

Jiang Xiaomei thought for a moment: "But getting paid for articles isn't that easy."

"It's not easy, but why not give it a try? How will you know if it will work if you don't try?"

A few minutes before she got off work, Wan Jie came to find her. She was handing over her shift to a colleague when the two of them left the school gate together. They didn't notice a group of people walking from the direction of the boys' dormitory.

Jiang Xiaomei's body was conveniently blocked by Wan Jie.

The Jiang and Ji families did not notice that the person they were looking for was right in front of them.

Only the dark-skinned and thin Jiang Ermei kept staring at the backs of the two pretty older women in front of her.

"How are we supposed to find someone in this school with so many people? The person at the dormitory entrance won't let us in." Ji's mother frowned, worried that she wouldn't be able to find anyone.

His eyes darted around at the college students, trying to catch a glimpse of his second son's face.

"Let's go eat first, then wait outside the dorm for a couple of days and maybe we'll run into him. If all else fails, we've got mouths to talk, right? We can just ask the guys in the dorm." The eldest brother, Ji Xianglong, said in a rather loud voice, "What if we happen to ask Ji Huaizhi's roommate?"

Ji's father: "The eldest son is right."

“If all else fails, we can call the police and you can just say your son is missing.” Ji Xianglong then pointed at the Jiang family: “You can just say your daughter is missing.”

Several people thought it made sense.

Jiang's mother noticed that Ermei was staring at the iron gate and asked, "What are you looking at? Did you see Brother Ji and your eldest sister?"

Jiang Ermei shook her head: "No, I just think the city is really nice. There are so many things I've never seen before. If my older sister has something to do in the city, don't ask her to go back."

"You're just like your older sister, both ingrates!" Jiang's mother poked her head hard.

It hurts a little.

“Even if she doesn’t go back, she should still send the money she earns working in the city back home.” Jiang’s mother pulled her out, saying, “It’s all a waste of her upbringing. No wonder people say that daughters are raised by other people.”

"The money she earned after being led astray by a man will probably be used to send the second brother of the Ji family to college."

The last sentence was spoken softly, so that the first three members of the Ji family couldn't hear it.

Jiang's mother glared at the Ji couple.

She turned to her husband and said, "Ji Erwa took Xiaomei away, and now his reputation is ruined. Once we find her, we must make sure they get married, otherwise he won't even look at our Xiaomei once he makes it big in the world."

Mr. Jiang glanced ahead and said, "Keep your voice down."

"Don't I know?" Jiang's mother lowered her voice again: "The reason he brought our eldest daughter out was because he thought she could earn money to support him. The Ji family are all very cunning."

“They don’t pay for their own son’s college education, so he has to live off his wife.”

"Otherwise, given his arrogant and incompetent nature, how could he possibly have brought our boss along?"

"Alright, that's enough. Let's talk about it after we find them." Mr. Jiang didn't want to listen anymore.

He also knew that the best way to find them was to get them married. Everyone in the village knew that Jiang Xiaomei had run away with someone, and it would be really difficult for her to find a husband again if she went back.

The only thing I can say is that she's a second-time divorcee with a child.

The group ordered several bowls of noodles at a noodle shop outside. Seeing how expensive it was, Ji's mother wanted to share a bowl with her son.

But to his surprise, when the food arrived, Ji Xianglong became possessive of it: "I told you to order, but you didn't. I don't even have enough to eat myself."

Mrs. Ji felt a little embarrassed, as she felt that everyone in the shop was staring at her.

"Then you can eat by yourself, eat slowly, Mom won't take it from you." She swallowed hard as she looked at her son's bowl of fragrant beef noodles.

Turning around, she saw her father, Mr. Ji, enjoying his meal without any reaction, and felt a tightness in her chest.

After glancing at the menu on the wall, I finally took out the steamed buns I hadn't finished in the car. Luckily, the noodle shop had free kimchi, which made the hard-to-swallow buns much easier to eat.

Jiang's mother and father ordered two bowls of vegetarian noodles and asked the owner for a small bowl to pick out a few strands for Jiang Ermei.

"You have a small appetite, this is enough for you."

Jiang Ermei remained silent, took out a steamed bun, put it in the noodle soup, and ate it.

After they finished eating, they paid and went down to the area below the men's dormitory.

They went around asking people one by one if they knew Ji Huaizhi.

Zhou Peng, wearing headphones, was pulled back and looked at Ji Xianglong impatiently: "What is it?"

A flash of jealousy crossed Ji Xianglong's eyes: "Do you know Ji Huaizhi?"

Zhou Peng looked at these people with suspicion: "Ji Huaizhi?"

“You know him? My brother Ji Huaizhi got into university and left without a word with another man’s daughter. We finally managed to get here by train, but we can’t find him. Now that he’s in university, he doesn’t recognize us anymore.”

"Shall we ask the school principal how he teaches his students?"

"How can they accept students who are disrespectful to their parents and abduct girls?"

Ji Xianglong ruined Ji Huaizhi's reputation with just a few words.

He was jealous that Ji Huaizhi was able to get into university and change his fate by going to the city. He knew that his younger brother, who had graduated from university, was no longer on the same path as him, the older brother.

So now he really wants to bring him down.

To be honest, Ji Huaizhi is quite famous for his campus food delivery business. Now that he has succeeded in his business, many teachers have mentioned his name to praise him, and people who hear his name feel that it is familiar.

Even if some people remember, they will say they don't know them in order to avoid trouble.

"Don't touch me." Zhou Peng disgustedly pulled his arm away and patted the spot where Zhou Peng had just grabbed him with disdain.

This action angered Ji Xianglong: "What do you mean? You college student look down on rural people? Who are you looking down on?"

Zhou Peng's gaze ignited a nameless fire within him.

"Isn't it obvious? They look down on you." Zhou Peng looked him up and down. "I don't look down on rural people. I look down on those who like to belittle people who are better than themselves."
