Chapter 21 The Ungrateful Childhood Sweetheart
"You!" Ji Xianglong clenched his fists, but was stopped by his mother: "Don't cause trouble, we are from out of town."
These words finally gave Ji Xianglong an outlet for his frustration: "So what if they're from out of town? What's so special about these college students?"
"Can you stop being so timid and dragging me down? Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"
"Do you think I don't know I'm from out of town? What are you babbling about here?"
Ji Xianglong's voice was loud, attracting many people to look over. They were already quite conspicuous standing there.
Look at him, so tall and imposing, yelling at his mother in public, his eyes filled with disdain and contempt.
Ji Xianglong felt that he had no self-esteem or face. Most importantly, he couldn't stand these college students. Why did they all have such good luck?
He wouldn't be so resentful if he had never been to university.
Now, once he gets angry, he can't help but vent his frustrations on Ji's mother: "What? You think your second son is better now? You think he's successful?"
"I......"
"Xianglong!" Father Ji roared, "Is there no discipline left?"
Ji Xianglong's chest heaved, his expression suggesting he was about to start hitting someone.
She glared fiercely at Zhou Peng.
Just as Ji's father was about to speak, Zhou Peng put his headphones back on and turned back to his dormitory.
"What are you doing? Why are you arguing with your mother outside?" Father Ji warned him, "You are the eldest son in the family, the eldest grandson."
"Don't forget, the focus of the family is all on you."
The way he acted just now made it seem like he was blaming them for not giving him a good life and for not sending him to university.
“If you had gotten into university back then, your mother and I would definitely have sent you here, but what did you do?”
“You dropped out of school after junior high and just wandered around the streets all day. We still spent a lot of money to send you to learn a trade. We didn’t even give your second brother money when he got into university. The way you act like we owe you makes us feel bad!”
The reason Ji's father said all this was to make him understand that it wasn't that they didn't want to send him to university, but that he himself was not living up to expectations.
When Ji Huaizhi was admitted to university, he initially thought his second son was doing well and didn't think about not paying his tuition.
The eldest brother was resentful and jealous that Ji Huaizhi had gone further and climbed higher than him.
They absolutely refused to let them support his university education.
I never expected Ji Huaizhi to be so ruthless, leaving on his own and not even recognizing his parents.
He even doubted whether this decision was the right one.
Mr. Jiang offered Mr. Ji a cigarette: "Don't be angry anymore. Xianglong is so grown up now. There are so many people outside. Give him some face."
Seeing that Jiang's father had given him a way out, Ji's father stopped talking.
“There’s not a single child in the family who isn’t a worry.” Father Ji watched as he lit a cigarette and covered the lighter with his hand.
“Who doesn’t do this? Take your second son and my eldest son, for example. What are we going to do in the future?” Father Jiang probed, “They’ve made such a big fuss, everyone in the village knows about it. We’ll still be in-laws in the future.”
Ji's father did not object: "They made their own choice, and it's not like we, as their parents, disagree with it."
"Why make such a fuss?"
We're from the same village, and we live so close to each other.
Since the second son's wife is from his hometown, he can't go far; he'll always have to go back.
If he becomes successful and marries someone from the city, then that successful son will probably lose everything and won't get any benefits at all.
The group noticed it was so late, and there was a sign on the dormitory door that said the doors would close at 10 PM.
I had no choice but to leave and come back tomorrow.
If you can't find a school nearby, try another one. Otherwise, why would they come all the way here to sell boxed lunches?
After entering the dormitory, Zhou Peng immediately called Ji Huaizhi.
"Hello?"
Zhou Peng cut to the chase: "Your family is here. They've been chanting your name and trying to ruin your reputation right outside the dorm. Do you want to hide?"
"They're here? How many are there?" Ji Huaizhi remained relatively calm.
"Six. One is your brother, there should be your parents, there's a little girl, and the other two are probably a couple who look quite like your girlfriend."
"I understand, thank you for telling me." Ji Huaizhi hung up the phone, wondering how they had found him.
In her previous life, Jiang Xiaomei was taken back to the capital when she encountered villagers who had come to the provincial capital for medical treatment.
Is this another familiar face I've seen in this lifetime?
After hanging up the phone, Zhou Peng went upstairs and happened to run into Fang Yuan, who was coming downstairs.
"where did you go?"
Fang Yuan was surprised that he was talking to him. Ever since he reported Ji Huaizhi last semester, Ji Huaizhi had refused to associate with him.
Fang Yuan was surprised that he was talking to himself.
"I forgot to eat while playing games, I'll go out and buy some food." He wouldn't let Ji Huaizhi earn a single penny of his money.
"Don't go, the dorms are closing soon." Zhou Peng went upstairs: "I still have instant noodles upstairs."
Fang Yuan was flattered and thought that he was sending a signal to reconcile.
He immediately followed suit: "Okay, Zhou Peng, I knew you were a really good person."
“They are all different from me.”
Zhou Peng ignored him, threw him a bag of instant noodles, and went to bed without paying him any attention.
Fang Yuan went up to borrow a bowl, but the man suddenly drew the curtains, clearly not wanting to see him.
"That's inexplicable." Why is this person so unpredictable?
Thinking of something, I picked up the instant noodles again to check; they weren't expired.
He tentatively asked, "Brother Peng, could I have another sausage?"
The bed curtains were pulled back: "Would you eat shit or not? I'm giving it to you for free and you're still being so picky?"
Fang Yuan saw the bed curtains being drawn back up and raised his hand as if to hit him: "What are you pretending for?"
When Ji Huaizhi returned, Jiang Xiaomei was applying a face mask, which he had bought for her. At that moment, she casually muttered that she was so dark-skinned.
"You're back?"
Jiang Xiaomei stood up with a smile: "I feel that after using the face mask you bought for me, my skin has improved and become whiter."
Ji Huaizhi: "Little devil Jiang, if you go out like this, you'll scare people to death."
"Did I scare you to death?" she said, nudging him with her shoulder.
The two washed up together and then lay comfortably on the bed to rest.
Just as Jiang Xiaomei took out her phone to continue reading her novel, she heard Ji Huaizhi say, "My parents and your parents are here. They're waiting for me downstairs in the men's dormitory tonight."
Jiang Xiaomei initially responded with a soft "hmm," but when she realized what he had said, her voice cracked in fright.
"What?"
"They're here?" she asked again in disbelief, her lips trembling slightly.
Seeing Ji Huaizhi nod, she panicked and her voice trembled with tears: "What should we do? Why are they here?"
"My parents will definitely make a scene and cause trouble for you. Won't that affect your schooling?"
"What should I do? They'll beat me to death, they'll slap me in front of everyone and call me shameless, brother, I..."
Her sobs grew louder and louder.
Ji Huaizhi pulled her into his arms and said, "I'm here. None of this will happen."
