Chapter 22 My Fierce Wife
In the end, both of them were badly injured and bleeding. They fought from the yard to the outside, and then from one end of the yard to the other.
Huang Zhaodi picked up whatever she could and threw it at him. A stone hit Ji Shichui on the forehead, drawing blood.
It was only when the bystanders saw how badly the fight had gotten that they managed to separate the two.
"What are you doing? You all want to kill each other, don't you?"
"My God, there's blood on the ground! What grudge could our family possibly have against each other?"
"I don't want to live anymore. Ji Shichui just wants to kill me. I've devoted myself to this family all these years, but what about him?" Huang Zhaodi collapsed to the ground, crying and screaming.
Ji Shichui covered his head, looking like he had been hit quite hard.
"This is bullying! This is too much bullying!" Huang Zhaodi rolled around on the ground, and the others didn't dare to help her up.
What are you two doing?
"What else can he do?" Huang Zhaodi pointed at him and cursed, "It's all because his good-for-nothing son is unfilial and takes all his anger out on me."
"You're talking nonsense!"
The village chief was busy in his field when he saw someone coming over and shouting that the Ji couple were fighting again.
Upon hearing this, he quickly found a place to hide.
He really didn't want to get involved, but after the man left, he asked in confusion, "Where's the village chief? I just saw him."
"You're mistaken. I don't know where he went." The village chief's wife said without changing her expression; she was annoyed too.
Seeing that the village chief wasn't coming, Huang Zhaodi couldn't continue the charade. She stood up and roared, "Anyway, you get annoyed just seeing me. Your eldest son is right next door, go live at his house!"
"Let me tell you, this isn't over."
Ji Shichui was so angry he almost had a heart attack. How come he never noticed how shrewish she was before?
Ji Huaizhi held a marriage certificate that resembled an award certificate, a smile on his lips. Feng Qiaoxiang took it, folded it, and put it on her person.
"Come on, Shengkai, Mom will hold your hand while Dad pushes the stroller. We're going out to eat today!"
"Great!" Ji Shengkai was still holding a string of candied hawthorns in his hand.
She felt so happy; she was the happiest child in the world right now.
The name Shengkai was suggested by Ji Huaizhi to Qiaoxiang, who claimed she was uneducated. However, the name she chose created a bond between her and her daughter.
With the Lunar New Year approaching, the streets are crowded, and vendors are starting to appear more frequently. Before, some people would wander around the streets and chase away vendors they saw, but now that the weather is getting cold and damp, those who used to chase vendors away are less likely to come out.
It's lunchtime now, and the state-run restaurants are packed.
Feng Qiaoxiang led them to the back of a residential building: "My colleague told me about this place, saying that the food here is no worse than that of state-run restaurants."
"It's up to you to decide." Ji Huaizhi parked his bicycle on the side. There were quite a few people here, and none of them had empty seats.
"You're eating, right? Come, sit here first. There's a table over there that's almost finished eating, it'll be quick." The woman smiled kindly and told them to sit down first: "This little blackboard lists today's dishes, see if there's anything you'd like to eat."
"There are only two people in the shop, so we can't make more dishes. Please bear with us."
Feng Qiaoxiang waved her hand: "It's nothing, you go ahead and do your work while we look at the dishes."
Soon a table became available, and the woman cleaned and wiped it down before arranging for them to sit down.
The three of them had already decided what to eat: "We'll have a steamed dish and braised pork with green beans."
The proprietress noted: "Our portions are generous; two dishes are enough, and we even give you a complimentary side of kimchi. If that's not enough, you can order more."
"That's all." Feng Qiaoxiang glanced around; there weren't many tables and chairs.
She gestured to her husband with her eyes: "These self-employed individuals are making money now, earning much more in a month than those of us who work in offices."
Ji Huaizhi looked up: "Yes, these days, the vendors outside aren't being chased away much."
Speaking of this, Feng Qiaoxiang recalled: "An aunt in my workplace, her son was a con artist, and he bragged to us that he earned in a month what she earned in a year."
"A reseller?" Ji Huaizhi asked in surprise. "Although it's not strictly regulated now, they're still cracking down on it, right? Did she leak this information?"
“So she’s a bit reckless.” Feng Qiaoxiang handed them three pairs of chopsticks: “She doesn’t know how to keep the money she makes to herself, she just tells everyone.”
Then the woman brought out the steamed dishes and pickled vegetables: "Today's steamed dish is steamed pork ribs with rice flour. The steamed dishes are different every day. Sometimes it's steamed pork, pork intestines, or braised pork belly. If you like it, come again."
After she finished speaking, she didn't bother her any further.
Feng Qiaoxiang first put a piece of pork rib on Ji Shengkai's plate: "It's hot."
She turned around and saw that there was a piece of pork rib in her bowl. She smiled at the man opposite her and started eating.
Shengkai glanced at her parents and then happily started eating the ribs.
It was steamed until very soft and tender, and the potatoes underneath were very fluffy and flavorful. The noodles seemed to be homemade; they were great with rice and had a slightly spicy taste.
The braised pork belly with green beans has a large chunk of pork belly, along with shredded kelp, and the green beans melt in your mouth.
The three of them were very satisfied with the meal, and Feng Qiaoxiang said proudly, "How was it? It wasn't a wasted trip, was it?"
"It wasn't a wasted trip." Ji Huaizhi chuckled, then turned to look and saw that noodles were being cooked there.
"What are you looking at?"
Ji Huaizhi looked up: "They run a restaurant, are they short of vegetables? And chicken, duck, eggs and such."
Feng Qiaoxiang's expression changed: "You want to?"
Ji Huaizhi suddenly felt embarrassed: "I was just thinking. You're the only one in the family who earns money. All I know is farming. I was just saying it casually."
"I think your idea is very good." Feng Qiaoxiang didn't expect that she would question him so much, that he was so insecure.
"Really?" Ji Huaizhi's eyes widened in surprise and doubt, afraid that she would disagree: "Do you know what I'm asking?"
"I think I should know." Feng Qiaoxiang stroked her chin and looked around. "There aren't many people here now. I'll call the boss over to settle the bill, and you can ask him?"
Ji Huaizhi hesitated for a moment before nodding.
It was as if he had mustered up a great deal of courage.
The woman came over and asked them if they had finished eating. She told them the price and Feng Qiaoxiang paid, saying, "Your business seems pretty good."
