Chapter 23 My Fierce Wife
The woman's eyes were happy, but she said something else entirely: "It's just enough to make ends meet, not as good as those dual-income families."
Ji Huaizhi then spoke up: "You seem to have quite a lot of guests. You must have a high demand for meat, vegetables, and eggs on a regular basis, right?"
The woman looked puzzled: "I don't worry about that; it's my man who takes care of these things."
"That's right, I'm from a village not far from here. The countryside may not have as many things as the city, but there are plenty of seasonal vegetables, chickens, ducks, fish, and eggs."
He smiled sheepishly: "I was just asking if you need any? There are discounts for bulk orders."
The woman frowned after thinking for a moment: "But it's too much trouble, and the market isn't far from here."
Buying these things from the village wouldn't save much cost.
After thinking for a moment, Feng Qiaoxiang asked Ji Huaizhi, "Then how about sending it over?"
The couple exchanged a glance, which meant they were thinking the same thing.
The woman called her husband over. The man, wiping his hands as he came out of the kitchen, asked after listening, "I want fresh food. Can you guarantee you can deliver it every day?"
Ji Huaizhi nodded: "Of course, these things from the village are certainly fresh."
The man pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out, and offered it to Ji Huaizhi. After the man shook his head, the woman patted him and said, "There's a child too."
"Oh right, actually I don't order many vegetables. People who eat out generally don't order vegetarian dishes, they just occasionally order them for soup or noodles. They mainly order things like scallions, green onions, garlic, eggs, chicken, and duck."
Ji Huaizhi nodded: "I understand, but these things don't happen every day."
The man smiled and said, "If it's available, I'll take it!"
His business is doing well, which is why he dares to say he'll take whatever's available.
"My name is Pang Shan, they also call me Pang Da." The man held out his hand: "I just thought you seemed honest, brother, so how about I bring you over for a couple of days to check on you?"
Ji Huaizhi nodded: "Okay, my name is Ji Huaizhi. I'll send you some of each tomorrow."
"Okay, let's consider this making friends."
After leaving, Feng Qiaoxiang remembered: "When you were at Uncle Wang's house, did you get a share of the land here?"
“I just remembered that colleague you mentioned. I don’t have one, but other families in the village do. I can buy them and then resell them to Pangda.”
"Give it a try, it'll be good to earn some extra cash for Shengkai."
The family of three bought some things and went home. Not long after, Ji Huaizhi went out to collect the things.
Feng Qiaoxiang's wedding leave was almost over, so she stayed home packing her things. The dowry and grain that Ji Huaizhi had given her were all brought back by the Feng family along with the dowry, and Feng's mother also took some grain.
I hope they have a prosperous first New Year after their marriage.
We also gave them some seeds, as it's potato planting season after the New Year.
She separated the land so that when she went to work, Ji Huaizhi could plant it directly.
"Mom, is this okay?"
“Choose one with buds, or small buds.” She saw the little one learning to do it too, so she taught her, “Don’t break the buds.”
"Okay, Mom."
"Mom, is this okay?"
"OK."
"Mom, this bud broke off, but is it okay if there's a small bud next to it?"
"OK."
"Mommy, Mommy..."
Feng Qiaoxiang couldn't take it anymore: "If you say 'mother mother mother' again, I'm going to hit you. Hurry up and get ready so you can go out and play."
As soon as she finished getting ready and came out, Feng Qiaoxiang saw her adoptive father-in-law standing at the door: "What are you doing standing at the door?"
Ji Shichui walked right in as soon as he saw someone, his head still bandaged, and said in a lecturing tone, "Can't you even greet people? What did your family teach you?"
"They haven't even given me a change-of-address fee, yet they expect me to change my address? There's no such thing as a free lunch!" Feng Qiaoxiang clapped her hands and found a farm tool. They wanted to go to the fields to check on things when Ji Huaizhi returned.
We still need to flip through it.
"What are you doing here? Your son is out."
"Can't I even come to my son's house? I'm your father-in-law!" Ji Shichui looked around the small courtyard with his hands behind his back, noting that it was quite nicely furnished.
Although it's not big, it's well-maintained. Their place used to be very clean.
But things changed after Ji Huaizhi left; no one did it anymore.
"It's not a big place, but it's well done. Is this the chicken coop?" He walked over to take a look and nodded. "You can raise chickens to lay eggs and eat them. You young people are busy, so I can feed them."
Feng Qiaoxiang rolled her eyes: "No need. I advise you to leave. Ji Huaizhi isn't home and I'm a new bride. It wouldn't be good if others saw us like this. Everyone knows the two families don't get along. I felt you had ulterior motives when you suddenly came over."
"What do you mean by that? I'm your father-in-law, you should call me Dad!" Ji Shichui's face turned red with anger upon hearing her words: "What do you take me for?"
"I just came to check. How do you two young people know about the cost of firewood and rice?" Thinking of her sharp tongue and fierce appearance, I didn't want to say anything more to her. "I'll go see if this side room is missing anything."
Feng Qiaoxiang sensed something was wrong and quickly stopped her: "What do you mean? We've all separated and are living our own lives."
Why do you have to get involved?
Ji Shichui: "You're still stopping me? I'm your elder! Your man's biological father!"
"What's wrong with me taking a look? I not only want to look, I also want to move in!" he said matter-of-factly, with his hands behind his back.
"If you hadn't made such a big scene at your wedding, the family wouldn't have been in such chaos." He said, pointing to his head.
He couldn't stand Huang Zhaodi anymore, and his children and daughter-in-law also had complaints about him.
He always has a sour face, or he says hurtful things. Today, Huang Zhaodi told him to get out, and he didn't want to, but then he thought that it would be quiet if he moved in, and he could also clear up the misunderstanding with his eldest son.
He still feels more comfortable living with his eldest son.
It would be much easier to live with my eldest son.
Upon hearing this, Feng Qiaoxiang sneered: "Shameless old hag, I think your brain has really gone haywire. Moving here? Why don't you go live in Heaven?"
"How dare you ask such a question? You can't stand seeing your eldest son doing well, so why don't you say you want to sleep between the two of us?"
"Moving back here? I bet you got kicked out, didn't you? Now you have nowhere to go and you're thinking of your eldest son? Let me tell you, no way!"
Ji Shengkai came out and took his mother's hand, looking at his grandfather warily.
Ji Shichui pointed at her: "What nonsense are you spouting! What business is it of yours that I'm at my son's house! You're just a woman, you have no right to speak!"
“She’s the mistress of this house, why doesn’t she have the right to speak?” Ji Huaizhi came in carrying a lot of things.
When Feng Qiaoxiang saw him return, she said, "The neighbors next door didn't want your father anymore and wanted to kick him out. Now they have the nerve to move in, leaving all the good stuff to the neighbors."
"He came to eat and stay in our poor, big house, and he wouldn't admit it even though I told him he was shameless!"
Ji Shichui pointed at her tremblingly: "What's the difference between you and Huang Zhaodi?"
"That's a huge difference. I'm not a wicked stepmother, and I don't covet other people's things!" She wanted to say something even more outrageous, but she was afraid of hurting her man's feelings.
If she dares to move in, she'll kick him out!
Ji Huaizhi put down his things, came over and took Feng Qiaoxiang's hand: "Don't be angry, I'll handle it."
Feng Qiaoxiang's anger immediately dissipated when she saw his gaze. No wonder people at work said that dating someone could improve one's temper.
"I'm not angry. They went too far and bullied you."
"Now that I'm here, I'll tear off anyone's shameless face!"
Upon hearing this, Ji Huaizhi chuckled and said, "Yes, I know you're a good person. I'll go talk to him, and he'll give up on that idea."
Looking down at her daughter, she said, "Take Mom inside to warm herself by the fire."
"Look at the wife you found! I'm your father, what's wrong with me moving in to help you guys? What's wrong with me just staying here?" Ji Shichui pointed to his head.
“Look at the injury on my head. I came here to recuperate, and that’s what she said to me.”
"She just married into the family!"
