Chapter 30: I Took Off My Brother's Green Hat
"You don't want it?" Ji Huaijin glanced at him.
Ji Huaizhi raised his chest: "Yes."
Ji Shu also stood up, raised her hand and shouted, "I want one too! Send it to my phone watch!"
Ji Huaijin agreed: "Everyone gets a share."
When Ji's mother heard that Teacher Tang's eyes lit up, she was surprised to hear that her older brother was going to give the child money again. She said, "Don't keep giving money to the child. He'll develop a habit of being too generous from a young age."
Ji Huaizhi stroked his chin: "When you and Dad get old, I won't give you any pocket money, so you won't be so foolish as to buy health supplements."
Ji's mother slapped him: "Never behaving properly, how old are you?"
Ji Huaijin disagreed with his mother's parenting philosophy: "Having money in hand makes you feel less anxious, and at least you have more confidence when you're out in the world. Huaizhi is not a child anymore."
Then he said to Ji Huaizhi, "The money I gave you is for you to use, you don't need to buy anything for Shushu."
He heard it from his daughter; he usually gave all the money she gave him to Shushu.
Ji Huaizhi: "I can give my money to whomever I want."
That evening, Ji's mother quietly came to Ji Huaizhi's room without knocking. As soon as she opened the door, a look of vigilance flashed in Ji Huaizhi's eyes, and a dagger suddenly appeared in his hand.
His conditioned reflex made him freeze, and realizing there was no danger here, he put the dagger away.
Ji's mother: "Son, tell me about your homeroom teacher."
Ji Huaizhi turned around: "Mom, you don't need to do this. I was just joking. Do you really want to pair up my brother with someone else?"
"No, I was just asking."
Ji's mother would never admit: "Is your teacher married?"
"It's settled."
Ji's mother exclaimed "Ah!" and looked visibly disappointed, thinking they were really joking.
After sighing, he turned to leave: "Alright, it's getting late, I should go to sleep early."
"But her husband is dead."
Ji's mother immediately turned back: "Let's talk some more."
"I only heard about it. Don't inquire about it. If there is such a connection, don't interfere," Ji Huaizhi instructed his mother.
Mother Ji: "I know, I know, do you know how her husband died?"
Do you have children?
“She’s sick, and she doesn’t have children. I overheard other teachers talking about it. They said her previous husband was a fraud, hiding a serious illness from her.” Ji Huaizhi said.
"I want Teacher Tang to have a baby as soon as possible, but maybe it's karma."
"She died before she was even pregnant."
After hearing this, Ji's mother frowned: "Then your Teacher Tang is also unlucky."
"Marriage is a big deal, so you must find out about the other person's family. This is marriage fraud, it's terrible."
"Good riddance."
Ji Huaizhi was speechless: "You look like the King of Hell."
"Alright, I won't interfere," Mrs. Ji assured her.
"Don't go asking around. That's my old teacher. Give me some face." As soon as Ji Huaizhi spoke, Ji's mother had a heart attack.
"What face do you have?"
After giving him a glare, he said he understood and wouldn't go.
Then he pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket: "Here's some pocket money for you. Don't accept money from your brother anymore. I know you spend it all on Shushu."
“When you and your dad were hospitalized, your brother took so much leave and I heard he was stuck at work.”
"I don't want to be rich and powerful anymore, I just want my family to be safe and sound."
The white hair on Ji's mother's head gleamed silver under the lamplight.
"It'll be alright, I've calculated that my brother is going to get a promotion," Ji Huaizhi joked.
He wasn't lying.
Ji's mother found it amusing: "Although you are so much younger than your brother, your father and I have already saved up money for you to get married and buy a house in the future."
Ji's mother spoke to him quietly.
A complex emotion flashed in Ji Huaizhi's eyes; human emotions are truly wondrous.
“Your older brother is tired. When we were young, we were too busy with work to take care of him. But when we had a little more free time, you came along.”
“You’re naughty, your brother helped us raise you.”
Ji's mother sighed, "I always feel like I'm letting your brother down sometimes."
Ji Huaijin stood at the entrance of Huaizhi, holding his daughter.
Shushu was clamoring to find her uncle, but when she came over, she heard these words from her mother.
When you get older, your first reaction to hearing these things is embarrassment and helplessness.
After thinking it over, Ji Huaijin took his daughter back to his room. He didn't feel that he had been taken advantage of over the years.
However, hearing these words stirred a strange feeling within me.
Ji Huaizhi glanced at the door and said, "Let's make two of his favorite dishes tomorrow to appease him."
Ji's mother chuckled, "Why am I telling you all this?"
Ji Huaizhi and Ji Huaijin have completely different personalities. Ji Huaizhi is impulsive and reckless, and passionate, while Ji Huaijin is thoughtful and considerate of everyone's feelings.
Looking at the ceiling, Ji Huaizhi felt calm.
I feel a sense of peace that I haven't felt in a long time.
Was I too tired in the past?
Not remembering anything actually made me feel relieved.
Ji Huaizhi was admitted to the local key high school. Although his grades were good, he was still a headache for the teachers at school.
Ji Huaijin would frequently receive phone calls from teachers complaining about him.
Sometimes he felt that he wasn't Ji Huaizhi's older brother, but rather like his father.
Of course, this couldn't be told to Ji's father.
Mr. Ji's health is recovering well; he can even get up and take a few laps around the neighborhood every day.
The only problem now is that my speech is a little unclear, but otherwise there are no other issues.
Because of this hospital visit, he has become more attentive to his health, avoiding certain foods and undergoing rehabilitation exercises without neglecting any of them.
Ji's mother laughed at him, saying that he had lived for so many years and was still afraid of death.
He used to love oily and salty foods and also enjoyed a little alcohol, but now he pays more attention to health.
Occasionally, I'll post some in the family group chat:
Shocking! These vegetables can help prevent cancer.
Young people who don't take care of their health will definitely regret it when they get old!
These things are inedible!
What Ji's father said was: "Life is so good now, wouldn't it be a waste not to live a few more years?"
He hasn't even seen his youngest son get married yet.
When Ji Huaizhi was admitted to university, the person he missed the most was Ji Shu.
She was in elementary school and dragged her uncle's suitcase, asking him to bring her along.
For Ji Shu, her uncle was a powerful remedy; she became cheerful and confident, largely thanks to Ji Huaizhi.
When she reached a certain age, she understood why her parents had separated.
I also understood the hurt my father suffered back then.
She understood even more what the secret she had kept for her mother back then represented.
This means that she also betrayed her father.
