Chapter 6 The Heartless and Unfeeling Top Scholar
When Jiang Xinyue paid her respects to her mother, she heard that they were going to arrange a marriage for her.
Suddenly, I remembered that unforgettable face I saw on the street before.
"Does Mother have someone in mind?" Jiang Xinyue asked.
The Prime Minister's wife, Jiang's mother, had a few candidates in mind: "Your eldest sister still cares about your marriage and recommended a few people in her letter."
"They all come from decent backgrounds. I'll have someone inquire about their family traditions."
Jiang Xinyue heard that they all came from good backgrounds, and thought that the top scholar Ji Huaizhi was from a poor family.
Who are they?
Jiang's mother noticed her daughter's slightly furrowed brows. Could it be that she already had someone in mind?
"Are you asking this because you have someone you like in your heart?"
Jiang Xinyue lowered her head: "No."
As a woman, she shouldn't speak rashly.
But Jiang's mother immediately saw through her daughter's thoughts: "I heard you went out for a stroll the other day, did you run into anyone?"
Jiang Xinyue bit her lip: "Mother, I witnessed the top scholar's demeanor when we were having tea at Tingfeng Pavilion that day."
Jiang's mother nodded: "No wonder."
"Your father mentioned this top scholar before, saying he was handsome, talented and charming."
"What a pity!"
Jiang Xinyue was quite excited when she heard the first half of the sentence, but her mother's last two words, "What a pity?", made her heart flutter.
Jiang's mother looked at her daughter: "It's a pity that this young master Ji is already married. I heard from your father that His Majesty originally intended to appoint him to a post immediately."
"But he told His Majesty that he had been away for several days and was worried about his seriously ill mother, wife and children at home."
Jiang Xinyue's spring fever suddenly vanished: "He's already married?"
Jiang's mother nodded. What she valued was family background, and even if Ji Huaizhi wasn't married, he wasn't within her consideration.
"Although he was considered a promising young man among those who passed the imperial examinations, it was not surprising that he was already married at his age."
"Moreover, his family was poor and he needed to study, so perhaps the money he spent on his trip to the capital for the imperial examination was given to him by his wife."
At this point, Jiang's mother shook her head: "I think the young talents mentioned in your elder sister's letter are quite good."
Jiang Xinyue wrung out her handkerchief: "But Mother..."
Jiang's mother suddenly said to the maids in the room, "You may all leave."
"yes."
"What are you doing here?" Although Jiang's mother's tone was not harsh, her expression clearly showed some displeasure.
"Putting aside Ji Huaizhi's family background, just the fact that he is already married should not give you any other ideas. You are the daughter of the Prime Minister, and you must not do anything that would damage your reputation."
Jiang Xinyue lowered her head: "Daughter understands."
Jiang's mother knew her temperament; she called the person out to give her a warning.
She softened her tone and said to her, "Just stay at home and relax. Your older sister and I will definitely find you someone a thousand times better than Ji Huaizhi."
"Go downstairs, and don't go out for the time being."
Jiang Xinyue stood up: "Yes."
After they went outside, Qiaolian followed. When they reached the garden, she said to the servants behind her, "You may all leave. Qiaolian will accompany me for a walk."
"yes."
Qiaolian lowered her head even further, knowing that her mistress had something to tell her.
Jiang Xinyue's face darkened, and her expression was rather unpleasant.
Unexpectedly, the only man she had her eye on was already married.
"Go and investigate Ji Huaizhi's wife."
Qiaolian: "Yes, Miss."
After Jiang Xinyue returned to her room, she received a portrait delivered from the front hall.
He frowned as he looked at the man in the portrait: "What a bunch of ugly ducklings, nothing about them is worth looking at except their backgrounds."
The maid knelt down, her head bowed low.
The young lady had a bad temper, and we were afraid she would get angry and punish us servants.
"Everyone knows that the current emperor is handsome, yet my elder sister insisted on introducing me to these people. She is simply humiliating me!"
After saying that, he got so angry that he knocked over the teacup on the table.
The servants lowered their heads even further.
Jiang Xinyue's delicate face contorted with anger, her chest heaving as her expressions shifted.
"If he is truly a good man, what does it matter if he has a wife?"
"Am I, the daughter of a high-ranking prime minister, really inferior to a country bumpkin?"

Nanzhou City.
After finishing his business, Ji Huaizhi prepared to return to the capital.
Before leaving, Mr. Shen decided to move his business to the capital.
Ji Huaizhi is right. Nanzhou City is quite far from the capital, and he only has one daughter.
Of course we have to follow along.
Currently, since Ji Huaizhi entered high school, Master Shen has become increasingly satisfied with him.
He attributed it to Ji Huaizhi's previous focus on passing the imperial examinations, which was why he was indifferent to everyone and everything.
That day, when the Shen family held a banquet, Ji Huaizhi made him look good.
Everyone knows that his son-in-law, who is very fond of his father-in-law, is extremely respectful.
"Be careful on the road, and make arrangements when necessary. I may not be able to help you in other areas, but I can help you spend money."
Mr. Shen stroked his beard.
The butler brought over a box.
When Ji Huaizhi saw that the room was full of silver notes, he twitched his lips and said, "You really aren't low-key at all."
"There's no need to keep a low profile in Nanzhou City."
Mr. Shen waved his hand, suddenly remembering how his son-in-law used to hate him for using money to solve everything.
I looked at his face and found nothing unusual.
Instead, they unceremoniously put the box into the carriage.
"Then I won't stand on ceremony. I'll be waiting for you in the capital, Father-in-law."
Master Shen nodded; the more he looked at Ji Huaizhi, the more pleasing he became.
He used to be conflicted, thinking money was vulgar, but he didn't have any.
He's probably been severely beaten in Beijing to be in this state now.
"Go ahead without worry. I'll send Madam Ji and Zhiyi to the capital soon. They can't withstand the long journey, so you go ahead first."
Ji Huaizhi bowed and said, "I entrust everything to my father-in-law."
After speaking, he looked at Chen Zhiyi.
Shen Zhiyi's eyes were red, clearly she had been crying.
Ji Huaizhi waited for a long time and looked at his father-in-law, only to find that he didn't give them any space to have a private conversation.
He could only look at Zhiyi and say, "I'll be waiting for you in the capital."
The words "waiting for you" were spoken with extra emphasis.
Shen Zhiyi nodded after hearing this: "Ji Lang, please be careful on your journey."
Seeing him in the carriage, my eyes welled up with tears again.
The two looked into each other's eyes, as if they had a thousand words to say.
Master Shen waved his hand, urging the servant to leave quickly: "Go on, don't delay."
After the carriage had driven away, I wanted to say a few words of comfort to my daughter.
Seeing that she looked at him with a wronged expression and then turned and left, Hongyin glanced at the master and quickly followed.
"What's this?" Old Master Shen looked somewhat annoyed. "Since her son-in-law left, she's taking her anger out on me?"
Seeing that the master was truly at a loss for words, the butler said, "You should have given the young master and young lady some time to have a private conversation."
Mr. Shen frowned: "They were staring at us like that, practically staring us through, but they didn't say anything!"
"They can't really bring themselves to speak up with you here; it would be so embarrassing."
Mr. Shen frowned in confusion: "Is that my problem?"
The butler lowered his head and remained silent.
Master Shen swaggered into the mansion, saying, "What a nuisance."
The butler smiled.
Although the old man said it was troublesome, his eyebrows clearly showed his happiness.

Jiang Xinyue was casually fiddling with the teacups on the table in the garden when Qiaolian ran over and glanced at her.
"Miss."
"explain."
"We just received news that Young Master Ji will arrive in the capital tomorrow."
Jiang Xinyue looked up: "His wife is here too?"
"According to the scouts, it was Young Master Ji alone with a few servants." Qiaolian stepped forward and poured Jiang Xinyue a cup of tea.
Jiang Xinyue smiled and said, "So he's keeping that woman at home?"
"That makes sense, how could a mere merchant's daughter be worthy of this top scholar?"
