Chapter 7 My Fierce Wife

Chapter 7 My Fierce Wife

When the three arrived home, their aunt had already prepared dinner.

Knowing that Ji Huaizhi and his daughter were there, he made a scrambled egg dish, and also cut a few slices of cured meat to stew with dried green beans, and there were quite a few potatoes in it.

Because of the cold weather, these potatoes were frostbitten and turned a bit black, but they still taste sweet.

"Dad!" Ji Gou'er ran out as soon as he saw his father return.

Although she was still wearing a large black cotton-padded coat, her hair had been washed and tied into two little buns, and her face was clean, with rosy cheeks.

Ji Gou'er was incredibly excited to see his father.

"Have you been good?"

Ji Gou'er nodded: "Good girl, my great-aunt and the others are so nice, they even gave me candy. The other older brothers and sisters are also very nice, they don't bully me."

Wang Xiaoer shook his head upon hearing the child's words, feeling sorry for him.

"Little dog, move aside, I need to carry your dad inside."

When his aunt came out and saw her son about to carry him, she said, "Slow down, don't fall. What did the doctor say?"

The following question was directed at Wang Dashan.

Wang Dashan truthfully said, "I fell and put the dislocated bone back in place on the way. The doctor said I was lucky, otherwise if it had been slightly more dislocated, I would have had to go to the provincial capital for treatment."

"You're really lucky." Auntie glanced back and said, "You brought his child along, are you planning to raise him?"

"At least we should wait until his leg is healed before talking about it. The Ji family doesn't treat him like a human being; they've gone too far."

My aunt had heard about it before, but she just sighed.

But she still felt uncomfortable. They had never visited before, and they hadn't even given her any news about getting married.

Now that I'm in trouble, how can I feel at ease going to them?

“Embroidery, he didn’t dare to come to me before, thinking that I didn’t care about him and disliked him. It was all because of that couple’s instigation. He had no choice but to come to me this time.”

“I asked around and found out that ever since Dami died and Ji Shichui married Huang Zhaodi, he hasn’t had a single good day. He even had to fight with wild dogs for food. He was only as tall as our grandson when he was already earning full work points. When I saw his bones in the hospital, I wanted to cry.”

“I feel sorry for my sister. I shouldn’t have argued with the child. I should have seen the child with my own eyes.”

"Otherwise, things wouldn't have turned out this way. His wife was also driven away by that couple. If we hadn't gone there, his leg would definitely be lame."

My aunt also choked up a little. She thought about it and realized that everyone was having a hard time. Life had only gotten a little better in the last two years.

He lost his mother right after birth, and they haven't seen the child since Ji Shichui remarried.

How old was he at the time?

She used to have a good relationship with her sister-in-law, who even took care of her during her postpartum period. Oh well, why should she hold a grudge against her child?

"Alright, what are you doing? I didn't say I disagreed."

"Let's go in, so the child won't overthink it."

As soon as she entered, she saw Ji Huaizhi looking down and extremely awkward, anxiously hugging his daughter. How could someone so grown up have been ruined by those two wretched people?

"Huaizhi, do you recognize me?"

Ji Huaizhi looked up and whispered, "Auntie."

"Speak louder! You're not even as loud as a dog. You can stay here peacefully from now on. We'll talk about anything else once your leg is healed."

Ji Huaizhi's eyes reddened, and he lowered his head so no one could see.

But everyone could tell what he was doing from his shrugging shoulders: "Thank you, Auntie. I'll help you with chores when I'm better."

"I'm very strong, thank you..."

Zhang Xiuhua finally understood why Wang Dashan, such a big man, was crying. How could he not be heartbroken to see such a fine young man reduced to this state?

"What are you thanking me for? You're also a child of the Wang family."

"You don't need to do any work for us. You're the same as Xiao Er and Xiao San. Let's eat."

I'm not going to say anything more, or she'll start crying.

"Waiter, put Huaizhi on the bed. You can eat in bed for now." Now that you've brought him here, take good care of him.

When Wang Dashan saw him refusing, he said, "Just stay here and relax. When you and your daughter have some spare food, have Xiao Er and the others get it."

"You've earned so many work points for the family, what's rightfully yours is yours."

Zhang Xiuhua placed the overflowing food in his hands: "That's right, your uncle will help you fight for what's rightfully yours."

Seeing him constantly wiping his face, Zhang Xiuhua changed the subject:

"These eggs were brought by your second uncle, who said they were to help you recover. Did you see them, second uncle?"

Wang Xiaoer chimed in, "You saw it? Do you remember the one where Second Uncle smashed the cart into the rock?"

"Don't say it in front of your second uncle. He's still talking about it when he got back, and he feels incredibly guilty." Zhang Xiuhua nudged him.

"This is a good thing, why feel guilty? There's no need for surgery, the dislocated bone has been corrected, I'll go talk to him about it in a bit."

They went out to eat, leaving the room for Ji Huaizhi alone.

Ji Gou'er sat at the dining table, looking at this and that. It was so nice to be with his great-uncle and great-aunt.

Just then, a piece of cured meat appeared in her bowl.

"Stop looking and eat quickly. Let your older brother and sister take you to play."

After the children went to play, Wang Dashan and Zhang Xiuhua had a short meeting in the kitchen. Zhang Xiuhua told them that Ji Huaizhi would be recuperating here.

"We may not be able to get his food rations. Of course, it would be best if we could. You may find it inconvenient to have two more people in the family for the time being, but this is your aunt's only child."

“That’s your father’s younger sister. When I gave birth to your eldest sister and second child, it was your aunt who took care of me during my postpartum period, so…”

"Okay, Mom. You and Dad are in charge of things at home." Wang Xiaoer interrupted, "We have no objections."

Wang Xiaosan also chimed in, "I have no objection either. Anyway, there's enough room at home, and my eldest sister isn't coming back for the time being since she got married."

Zhang Xiuhua glanced at her two wives but didn't say anything.

She probably wouldn't be happy about staying for so long, which she understands. But her two daughters-in-law are easy to manage and won't say much.

"The family will remain the same as before. We won't let anyone suffer. We'll give you some money and coupons later so you can buy some things for the children. Huaizhi will be taken care of by us, so we won't trouble you."

The two wives were stunned for a moment.

"Listen to your parents."

"Yes, I have no objection. My parents will decide."
