Hearing her say she wanted to drink, Zizhen hurried to bring her some. They left the inner room and let her rest more.
Zhou Jing'an didn't move and took the chicken soup. "You guys go down, I'll do it."
Zizhen and Luzhu looked at Jiang Ling twice again and retreated accordingly.
Jiang Ling propped herself up and tried to sit up. Zhou Jing'an quickly supported her waist and placed a soft pillow behind her back.
He fed her spoonful by spoonful, his movements careful and gentle.
"Have you eaten?" she asked.
Zhou Jing'an just said he wasn't hungry.
Jiang Ling looked at him and saw that he looked haggard, with even the shadow of stubble on his chin.
"You should go and have a rest too. You've been guarding me for a long time."
Needless to say, Zhou Jing'an would never leave her bed.
Zhou Jing'an's eyes flushed quietly, his nose felt sore, and he shook his head, "I won't leave. I'll stay with you."
After drinking a bowl of chicken soup, Jiang Ling felt much better in her stomach. She watched Zhou Jing'an stand up and put down the porcelain bowl. He was still wearing the same clothes he wore when he went out in the middle of the night to buy her candied haws.
He turned around and sat back next to her, and asked softly, "Sleep a little longer."
Jiang Ling didn't say anything and held his hand.
He lowered his eyes and stroked her fingertips with his fingers, which were warm, much warmer than the hand he touched when she passed out this morning.
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and in the blink of an eye, a tear fell.
Zhou Jingan's face was filled with heartache and pain, "I almost thought..."
I thought she wouldn't wake up.
"It's my fault." Tears fell one by one, wetting her eyelashes.
Jiang Ling looked at his guilty and distressed eyes and squeezed his hand, "I'm not good at this."
Zhou Jingan shook his head and took out a piece of paper from his lapel and handed it to her, "Here is the letter of guarantee."
It was the one he wrote in the outer room.
Jiang Ling took it and unfolded it. The words were crooked and untidy, and it said that he promised that he would never let her have a child again. There were no fancy words or carefully chosen words, just plain words, and at the end it was stamped with Zhou Jing'an's private seal.
She couldn't help laughing, thinking about what she had shouted at that time, and she felt a little embarrassed for a moment, thinking that everyone must have heard it.
"You actually wrote it." She laughed and said, "When have I ever seen you write such ugly handwriting?"
Zhou Jingan said seriously: "Every word counts."
He leaned over and hugged her, choking with sobs: "I will never let you suffer like this again."
Jiang Ling chuckled and raised her arms to hug him, "Okay, that's what you said."
When she was in unbearable pain in the inner room, she vaguely heard him crying in the outer room. Looking at his appearance now, she knew that he was in as much pain as she was.
"Well, I said it will never change." He said solemnly.
He wanted to tell her that he had worked hard, but these three light words could not comfort her at all, nor could they offset one ten-thousandth of her pain.
So her lips opened and closed for a long time, and finally turned into a tender low call: "Ling'er..."
Jiang Ling responded: "Yes, I'm here."
Just like when he grabbed her hand helplessly and said don't be afraid, he is always there.
Hearing her response, Zhou Jing'an hugged her tighter, truly feeling that she was perfectly safe in his arms. He sighed softly, and his heart, exhausted from the heartache and pain, finally settled down to a steady, shallow beat.
Jiang Ling was carefully laid flat by him, and she said, "You should get some sleep too."
Zhou Jing'an hesitated for a moment and nodded. He simply washed his face and hands, took off his dirty and wrinkled robe, turned around and got on the couch.
She was stunned and chuckled helplessly, "Why are you sleeping next to me in the side hall?"
He refused and didn't dare to snatch her quilt. He brought another quilt over and spread it out, then lay on the outside and moved closer to her.
"I'm going to watch over you."
This was the nth time he had said this.
Jiang Ling couldn't resist him, so she found a comfortable position and nestled in his arms, closing her eyes.
Zhou Jing'an looked at her sideways, feeling her steady breathing, and knew she had fallen asleep. He carefully placed a kiss on her forehead, with endless cherishment.
The Zhou family had a baby boy, which caused quite a stir in the capital.
There is no doubt that this child was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
The eldest grandson of the Zhou family is of great importance.
Feng Yu was happy for Zhou Jing'an and gave him a lot of treasures. Zhou Jing'an was also very happy. Not only did he send many things, he also asked someone to make a longevity lock, which was golden and dazzling.
Meng Wanjie wrote a letter home and sent it to southern Xinjiang that day, hoping that Jiang Lianshan could receive this joy as soon as possible. Needless to say, the Jiang family's gift was almost the same as when Jiang Ling got married.
All the important figures in the capital came to congratulate them one by one. The doorsteps of the Zhou and Jiang families were almost broken down by people, and everyone's face was filled with smiles.
Jiang Ling didn't need to talk about these things for now. When Zhou Jing'an woke up, it was already lunch time.
The child was placed in the east wing of Qiyun Pavilion, which had already been decorated and was just waiting for his birth.
Xia Zhixian watched the child fall asleep with a smile, and told the servants to take good care of him. She turned and went into the main hall to see how Jiang Ling was doing, but saw Zizhen and Luzhu hesitating outside the door and not daring to go in.
She felt strange, pushed the door open, looked through the gauze curtain, and was furious.
Zhou Jing'an had already woken up and was staring at Jiang Ling sideways with a serious and gentle expression. He didn't even notice that Xia Zhixian had entered the room.
She stepped forward, parted the curtain, and slapped him with her palm. She glared at him and lowered her voice: "I was wondering where you'd been. It turns out you were here. It's not like there's no room for you to sleep in, but you insisted on squeezing into Ling'er."
"Come down quickly." She pulled him.
Zhou Jing'an felt wronged after being slapped, but was afraid of waking Jiang Ling, so he had to get off the bed, turned around and tucked the corner of the quilt for Jiang Ling. Before he put on his clothes and left the inner room, he was punched again.
