Chapter 27 Quickly Transmigrated! Going Bankrupt Overnight and Becoming the Young Master’s Bodyguard (30)
"I just want to see if I can find some clues that I've missed." I tried to remain calm and explained, "During the day, there are too many people and too many eyes to look carefully."
Detective Wu sneered: "Clues? I think you want to destroy the evidence?"
My heart sank, knowing that I had fallen into his trap. "Detective Wu, what do you mean by that? Why should I destroy the evidence?"
"Are you still playing dumb?" Detective Wu approached step by step. "From the beginning, I thought you were suspicious. You are a poor young man, but you suddenly became Shen Haoxuan's bodyguard. Who knows what your purpose is in approaching him? Now there is a problem with the security system, and you appear here in the middle of the night. If not guilty, what else can you say?"
I took a deep breath and tried to control my anger. "Detective Wu, you are biased! I have not done anything to let down the Shen family."
"Really?" Detective Wu's eyes swept over me. "Then tell me, what are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
"I..." I was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to explain.
"You can't tell me, right?" Detective Wu said in an even more complacent tone. "I think you should tell me the truth. Who sent you here? What's your purpose?"
I bit my lip tightly and said nothing. I knew that no matter what I said, he would not believe me. I could only rely on myself to find the real evidence to prove my innocence. I lowered my head and continued to search every tiny trace on the floor, hoping to find a glimmer of hope.
Suddenly, my fingers touched a hard object. I carefully pulled it out from the crack in the floor, and with the weak light, I saw a button. The style and color of this button were very unfamiliar, and it was definitely not from any of the guests at the party. My heartbeat began to speed up. This might be the key clue I have been looking for...
"What is this?" Detective Wu's voice rang in my ears.
I opened my palm, and the dark red button lay quietly in my palm, reflecting a faint light in the dim light. It was small, but the workmanship was very delicate, and the edge was inlaid with a circle of fine metal wires. It was obvious that it was not an ordinary product. "A button." I answered as calmly as possible, but there was a wave of shock in my heart.
Detective Wu snatched the button and held it in front of his eyes to examine it carefully. "This is not for the guests at the banquet." He pondered for a moment, with a hint of doubt in his tone, "This thing... looks familiar."
I was moved. Did he find out something too? Just as I was about to ask, a burst of hurried footsteps came from the corridor, breaking the silence of the hall. Director Liu walked in with two black-clad bodyguards.
"Feng Ziang, what are you doing here?" Director Liu's eyes were gloomy, with a hint of warning in his tone.
I thought to myself, this is not good, it seems he got the news. I tried to stay calm, "I'm just helping Detective Wu with his investigation."
"Investigate?" Director Liu sneered, "I think you have ulterior motives! There's a problem with the security system, and you, a bodyguard, don't go to protect the young master, but are sneaking around here. Who knows what your intentions are?"
I looked him straight in the face and said fearlessly, "Director Liu, I just want to find out the truth and clear my name."
"The truth?" Director Liu's tone became even colder. "The truth is that you neglected your duties and caused the security system to fail! Do you still want to make excuses?" The two bodyguards behind him also moved forward, blocking my way.
I knew that this evening was not going to end well. I put my hands in my pockets and tightly grasped the party guest list. This was my last hope. I had to find a way to get out of this situation before I could continue my investigation.
"Director Liu, you are obstructing the investigation." Detective Wu's voice suddenly rang out, and he walked to my side, blocking the way of the two bodyguards. "This button may be the key clue, we must find out its source."
Director Liu's face changed. He didn't expect Detective Wu to speak for me. He hesitated for a moment and waved his hand, "Let's go!"
After Director Liu and his group left, the hall returned to peace. I breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the cold sweat from my forehead.
"Thank you, Detective Wu," I said gratefully.
Detective Wu looked at me, said nothing, then turned and left the hall.
I knew that Director Liu would not give up. I had to find the owner of the button as soon as possible to prove my innocence.
I quietly left the banquet hall and walked along the corridor to the back garden. There were few people there, which was a good place for my investigation.
The night breeze caressed my cheeks, bringing a hint of coolness. I walked carefully among the flowers, my eyes constantly scanning the surrounding environment.
Suddenly, I heard a series of subtle footsteps behind me. My heart sank, knowing that Director Liu's men were coming again. I quickened my pace and ran deep into the garden... Turning around a flowerbed, I saw a small wooden house not far away. I hid in the wooden house, holding my breath, listening to the movement outside.
The footsteps were getting closer and closer. I held the button tightly in my hand and prayed silently in my heart.
"Where are the people?" a rough voice sounded.
"It should be nearby, look carefully for me!" another voice replied.
Through the gap in the wooden house, I saw two bodyguards in black searching everywhere. They held flashlights in their hands, and the beams swung back and forth in the garden, as if to expose me completely to their sight.
I had to find a way to get out of this… My eyes fell on a pile of junk in the corner of the cabin. A bold idea emerged in my mind… I quietly moved to the pile of junk, picked up a piece of rag and covered myself with it…
"There seems to be something over there!" A bodyguard spotted me and walked towards the cabin.
My heart was beating so fast that it almost jumped out of my chest...
"There's nothing here, just a pile of rags." The bodyguard kicked the debris and turned away.
I took a long breath and slowly crawled out of the pile of debris.
I have to leave here as soon as possible... I pushed open the door of the wooden house and slipped out... "Who?!" A deep voice sounded behind me.
I turned around suddenly, my heart almost jumping out of my throat. In the dim moonlight, Shen Haoxuan's figure appeared behind me like a ghost. He folded his arms in front of his chest, his eyes deep and complicated.
"Master Shen...Master Shen?" I stammered, pulling at my dusty clothes in panic.
He walked closer and stopped in front of me, looking down at me. A faint scent of sandalwood lingered around my nose. "What are you doing here in the middle of the night when you're not in your room?" His voice was low and I couldn't tell whether he was happy or angry.
I tried to calm myself down and said, "I...I couldn't sleep, so I went out for a walk."
He raised his eyebrows, obviously not believing me. "Really? I see you're sneaking around, and you look like a thief with a guilty conscience."
