Chapter 764 Who is the Infected? (O63)

The night passed peacefully, but when Yi Mu woke up the next day, Xiang Qing still hadn't returned.

He was worried, so he bought more than a dozen breakfasts on the way and went to the police station.

The usually quiet police station was now packed with people, including reporters with cameras and microphones broadcasting live, and family members who were crying uncontrollably.

There was also a group of burly men with tattooed arms, silently smoking.

The police station entrance was filled with officers maintaining order, who would occasionally shout sternly at the officers.

Yi Mu recognized him and greeted one of the young men in a police uniform, offering him his breakfast.

"Gangzi, is your captain at the station?"

Gangzi took the breakfast, distributed it to his colleague, glanced inside, and lowered his voice to say, "Captain Xiang is inside. He had a fight with the director two hours ago."

A series of murders occurred in the jurisdiction, with nearly 20 people dying in two days. Both cases involved inexplicable group fights that resulted in death.

At least I knew the reason behind the first case; it was all because of a man.

In the second case, a dozen or so unrelated people, with no prior conflict or clashes, suddenly started fighting, and there was nothing unusual at the scene.

Two consecutive murders have given the bureau chief, who is only a year away from retirement, a huge headache.

In fact, the police officers haven't had a proper rest for two days; public opinion is putting them under a lot of pressure.

But the bureau chief was under pressure from above, and he needed an outlet. He couldn't vent his frustrations on his subordinates, so he turned to Xiang Qing.

Yi Mu carried breakfast into the police station, handing one to every acquaintance he saw along the way.

When they arrived at Xiang Qing's office, they found that all of his team members were gathered together, seemingly having a meeting.

The sound of the door opening startled everyone. When they saw the breakfast that Yi Mu was carrying, everyone cheered, put down their documents and notebooks, and rushed over.

Xiang Qing had stubble on his chin and bloodshot eyes. After staying up for two nights straight, even with his strong physique, he couldn't hold on any longer.

Yi Mu unpacked the disposable chopsticks for him, ruffled his hair, and said softly, "Take a shower when you get home tonight."

Xiang Qing knew he was worried, so she nodded.

These two cases are too difficult to handle. The surveillance cameras at the second crime scene are also completely out of order.

Such a bizarre case, with no connection between the victims, has blocked all leads.

Xiang Qing and the others had to attend a meeting, so Yi Mu went home first.

With nothing to do at home, he went back to his room to sleep.

He slept soundly until evening, when he was awakened by the sound of an alarm.

On the streets, one fire truck after another rushed toward the unknown future, racing against time.

The sunset was even more vibrant than the day before, so red it looked like it was about to drip blood.

There seemed to be the sound of a child crying outside the door, a very pitiful sound. Yi Mu's temples throbbed with pain.

Suddenly, the cell phone that was in the living room rang.

Yi Mu turned and left the balcony, heading towards the living room.

As he turned away, he was unaware that pedestrians outside the residential area were frantically rushing towards the shelter in the city center.

The air was thick with the stench of blood.

At the highest point of the city, a man and a woman stood on the edge of a rooftop.

The man wore black-rimmed glasses on his nose, and his hair was messy and somewhat unkempt.

"Look how interesting these people are."

Through the binoculars, I watched as people on the ground scrambled to run towards the shelter.

When a child trips, no one helps them up; some even step on the back of the child's hand with the sharp sole of their high heels.

The child cried out in pain, then was kicked into the middle of the road by another person. A speeding car hit him, and his small body flew into the air like a kite with a broken string.

He fell to the ground with a thud, and blood was everywhere.

Yu Die stood beside Nie Han without saying a word.

She used to think she was standing high enough, but now, standing at this vantage point, she realizes how naive she was before.

The gods who rule over humanity are the ones who stand at the highest point. They are high above, watching mortal beings struggle for life and death.

From such a height, looking down, the people on the ground look like ants, fragile and powerless.
