"Hmm," Ichidō replied indifferently.
Asong was already used to Yideng's indifferent attitude. He jumped down from the tree and followed Yideng into the house.
Seeing Yideng head towards the alchemy room, Asong asked, "Are you going to refine weapons again?"
Every time Yideng returns from outside, he goes straight to the alchemy room, which means he has brought back a ghost or monster.
Yideng didn't speak. He walked towards the furnace in the center of the alchemy room. The furnace was enormous, as tall as a three-story building, and was carved with a lifelike dragon.
The furnace was leaning against a ladder. Yideng climbed up the ladder, took out the Qiankun bag, and opened it.
The light outside the mirror returned, and Xia Linyin immediately jumped out of bed and ran to the mirror.
Where is this?
Xia Linyin rolled her eyes to observe the outside environment.
"Oh, it's a mirror!"
A handsome face with delicate features appeared in the mirror. The facial lines were soft and the features were just right. It was the kind of face that made people feel comfortable, as pleasing to the eye as a spring breeze rustling willows.
"Who are you? Where is this?" Xia Linyin asked.
"I'm Asong, you can also call me Songsong," Asong said with a smile. "You're inside the furnace."
"A furnace?" Xia Linyin frowned.
“That’s right, you’re inside the furnace right now. Dengdeng is going to refine you. If he succeeds, you can cultivate by Dengdeng’s side in the future. If he fails, your soul will be scattered.” Ah Song said.
Xia Linyin's brows furrowed even deeper. Seeing that Xia Linyin didn't react much, A Song asked, "Aren't you scared?"
Xia Linyin replied, "I'm scared..."
But Ah Song didn't see any fear on her face, so he asked, "Do you know what kind of fire was used to refine you?"
Xia Linyin shook her head, and Asong said, "It is the Netherworld Fire that can cause unbearable pain to the soul, and it will burn for forty-nine days. The fire will burn more and more fiercely each day. The sword, fan, embroidered shoes, shroud and other items that were thrown into the furnace by Dengdeng did not survive and were burned to ashes by the Netherworld Fire."
"I was forcibly taken here by that bald monk. I don't want to be refined. Can you save me?" Xia Linyin looked at Asong with hopeful eyes.
"Bald monk? You mean Dengdeng? Hahahaha—"
Seemingly tickled by the word "bald monk," Ah Song couldn't stop laughing until tears welled up in his eyes.
He raised his sleeve to wipe away the tears of laughter, then said to Xia Linyin firmly, "No."
"Then are you willing to make a bet with me? I'm trapped in this mirror and can't get out. If I survive this Netherworld Fire, then you'll pull me out; if I don't—"
Xia Linyin suddenly laughed, "No, I can definitely get through this!"
Looking at Xia Linyin, whose face was beaming with smiles and whose eyes shone like stars, A Song paused for a moment before saying, "You're really interesting, but you can't just endure the Nine Netherworld Flames if you want to."
"So, are you going to gamble or not?" Xia Linyin asked.
Ah Song smiled and nodded, saying, "Alright, I'll bet you. I don't believe you can make it through, but if you really do, then I'll pull you out."
Xia Linyin said, "It's a deal!"
Ah Song said, "What's done is done!"
The lid of the cauldron slammed shut, blocking out the light from outside, but soon after, flames ignited inside the cauldron.
The flames flickered and swayed like will-o'-the-wisps, emitting an eerie glow.
As the flames spread, the entire furnace was engulfed in raging Netherworld Fire, and the Ghost Mirror was completely covered by the flames.
Xia Linyin, as if she had become one with the Ghost Mirror, was also suffering from the torment of the Netherfire.
For the first three days, she could grit her teeth and keep quiet, but after three days, as the color of the flames suddenly deepened, Xia Linyin couldn't help but let out soft moans.
It was as if someone was repeatedly scalding her body with a scorching hot iron, and then pouring salt water onto the bloody wounds.
Pain! Waves of extreme pain swept over her, and even banging her head against the wall couldn't relieve the pain.
The wall did not cause her soul pain; the only thing she felt was the burning pain of the Netherworld Fire.
Sometimes she was in so much pain that she wished she could die immediately, but she was now a ghost, a girl who had already died, so she could only endure that pain.
"Leave, leave, leave..."
Xia Linyin curled up on the ground, murmuring unconsciously, with bright red tears streaming from her eyes.
A tongue of fire struck, and she convulsed, then curled up even more tightly.
Xia Linyin didn't know how many days she had been in the furnace. Time seemed to stretch on endlessly. Sometimes she felt like she was about to disappear, so she gritted her teeth, staggered up from the ground, picked up a pen, and carefully wrote the character "离" (meaning "separation") on her diary.
Thinking of Xiao Li, and Xiao Li whose condition was still unknown, Xia Linyin finally had the strength to continue enduring the torment of the Netherfire again and again.
Whenever she felt she couldn't go on, she would recall every moment she spent with Xiao Li.
She absolutely had to see Xiao Li! She needed to know how Xiao Li was doing!
Although the injection of the X virus was extremely painful, it was only for a period of time. Now, however, she had to endure this pain for forty-nine days. Every time Xia Linyin felt that she was in so much pain that she was numb, the color of the Netherfire would deepen, and the pain would increase to another level.
