The unevenly coated cement floor, the whitewashed walls, the cold, tightly locked iron door, and the ceiling of the room, which is only about ten square meters, are illuminated by a white light bulb inside a lampshade shaped like an upside-down bowl.
On the ground lay an old-fashioned television set with an antenna, a bloodstained axe, and two pitiful women chained together in the empty room.
A stainless steel handcuff was on one wrist, with a thick iron chain welded to the other end of the handcuff, which was nailed to the ground.
"Xia Linyin! It's you again! Why, why isn't it Jinyan! Why did I wake up to find you instead of Jinyan!"
Upon opening her eyes and seeing Xia Linyin, Bai Xueer screamed angrily, the iron chains scraping against the ground with a rattling sound.
Bai Xueer tugged at the chain forcefully, utterly exasperated, "What kind of hellhole is this?!"
Bai Xueer twisted her wrists, trying to get her hands off the handcuffs, but the skin was almost rubbed off, and she still couldn't get them off. She rubbed her reddened hands and complained, "It hurts so much! If Jin Yan were here, he would definitely have a way!"
Xia Linyin glanced at Bai Xueer but didn't say anything; her ears had already learned to automatically ignore Bai Xueer's screams.
She tried to pull her hands out of the handcuffs, but it was impossible. The handcuffs were so small that they were stuck on her wrists. Even if she broke her thumb, she might not be able to get them out.
The axe was not far away, within arm's reach, so Xia Linyin picked it up.
The axe was stained with blood, just like a butcher's knife, and it was a chilling sight.
Aiming at the iron chain, Xia Linyin chopped down hard, once, twice, three times, even sparks flew, but only a few insignificant marks were left on the iron chain.
She turned the axe over and hit the concrete ground a few times with the back of the axe, then gave up, as it was impossible to pull the chain out from under the ground.
Xia Linyin lowered her arms and leaned against the wall in silence. Her meaning was clear: there was only one way to get out—cut off her own hand!
That's why she smashed the ground with the back of the axe just now. She was afraid that if she dulled the axe, she wouldn't be able to cut her wrist when she had no choice but to chop off her hand. Just thinking about that scene was painful.
While sharpening the axe blade, Xia Linyin observed her surroundings. In fact, she had already looked around this small place several times, but she still wanted to see if there was anything she had overlooked.
Is there some hidden clue?
A sudden stinging pain shot through her palm. It was finally happening! Xia Linyin quickly looked at her palm.
"Open your eyes, look around you, do you know where you are? Believe me, you don't want to know."
"Player Mission: Night is falling, the revelry is about to begin. Before the tunnel collapses, hurry and escape this bloody slaughterhouse!"
Although the game's descriptions were somewhat nonsensical, with terms like "carnival" and "tunnel" leaving her completely confused, a bad premonition still arose.
Xia Linyin originally thought that if there was no danger in being locked in this room, she could stall for as long as possible, because cutting off her own hand was simply too bloody and cruel.
The current game mission requires players to escape from a slaughterhouse, which doesn't sound like a good thing. Moreover, the phrase "before the tunnel collapses" indicates that there is a time limit, and players must escape before the tunnel collapses.
"Xia Linyin, what do these two sentences mean? I don't understand them. This is just a room. Is something going to happen later?"
"What kind of carnival is this?!"
"What are tunnels and slaughterhouses anyway?!"
As Bai Xueer spoke, she couldn't help but start crying.
Suddenly, the TV turned on by itself, and after a burst of static, an image appeared on the screen.
"Bai Xue'er, look!" Xia Linyin immediately stared intently at the screen.
Bai Xueer stopped crying and stared wide-eyed at the television.
The television was showing a movie called "The Cabin in the Woods".
The movie tells the story of a group of college students who come to a cabin in a secluded grove for a vacation. Everything is normal at first, but when they play Truth or Dare at night, they accidentally discover a basement.
The basement was filled with all sorts of strange and unusual collectibles: an antique-looking wedding dress, a music box, a conch shell, an old-fashioned movie projector... Each of them picked up something that interested them.
The female protagonist finds a diary, reads it aloud, and even recites a spell, which inadvertently summons a massacre of zombies.
The bloody slaughter began.
The female and male protagonists, who had barely escaped from the zombies, entered an elevator leading to the bottom of the cabin.
Then they saw all sorts of terrifying monsters that they had only ever seen in horror movies before.
There was a huge underground organization that imprisoned all sorts of ancient creatures. To prevent the big boss from coming out and destroying humanity, they would bring in unsuspecting people every year to torture and kill them in a predetermined order to complete a sacrificial ritual.
The monsters to be slaughtered are chosen by these people themselves.
Each item in the basement corresponds to a monster. Whoever activates the mechanism of an item first will summon the monster corresponding to that item.
The ending is that the female protagonist releases all the monsters, which then go on a killing spree against the members of the underground organization. The sacrificial ritual fails, the big boss appears, and the series ends.
After the movie ended, Bai Xueer, having recovered from her shock, asked Xia Linyin, "What does this mean? Why did we have to watch this movie?"
"Did the female lead say 'Let the party begin' before releasing all the monsters?" Xia Linyin swallowed hard. In the final scenes of the movie, the entire underground organization's base had become a killing playground for those monsters.
Blood flowed like rivers, and severed limbs were everywhere. People screamed and cried as they fled, only to be met with even more excitement and cruelty from the monsters.
Could the "bloody slaughterhouse" mentioned in the game refer to this?
