Cen Yu returned to the water villa on the island.
He sat on the sofa, with an endless sea view in front of him. The wall clock showed it was 11 o'clock. He touched his neck... then picked up the welcome card. Sure enough, there was another note on the back of the card.
[Important Note 1: Please turn off the lights after 11 PM and ensure that all light sources in the room are turned off.]
[Important Note 2: At 3:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 12:00, please do not look directly down at the sea surface.]
Cen Yu looked at the refreshed notices and found that they did indeed have a bit of a strange rule-based tale feel to them—but he didn't know whether the refresh time of the notices on the card was based on a day or on his own death.
What are you looking at?
Pei Leyun brought two breakfasts to Cen Yu.
"Is there a kitchen here?" Cen Yu asked, looking at the Western-style breakfast laid out in front of him.
“No.” Pei Leyun squatted down. “Are you eating here?” Then he began to answer Cen Yu’s first question, “I’ll cook at the villa.”
“They’ve prepared a lot of things; the refrigerator is full of food.” Pei Leyun handed the knife and fork to Cen Yu. “It’s enough for us to eat here for a month.”
The Pei family bought this private island from someone else. Initially, they did intend to use it for vacation purposes, but later it was changed to a private vacation island. Normally, when the Pei family stays on this island, they choose a villa some distance away.
All the staff on the island live in another house.
The water house could also be lived in—it gradually became a place for the Pei family to entertain invited guests.
Although the island is nominally Pei Heng's private property, he doesn't usually come here for vacation, so anyone in the Pei family can use it as long as they tell Pei Heng's assistant. Cen Yu met this assistant once; he was in charge of handling some miscellaneous matters for the Pei family, and Cen Yu himself was also categorized under the miscellaneous matters category.
Of course, they can also invite friends to vacation on the island. Except for a few specific areas in the villa that belong to Pei Heng and cannot be visited, all other places are open to invited guests. The only rule is that guests can only stay in the water villas and cannot stay in the main villa.
Among the invited guests and Pei Heng's relatives, some were fond of showing off, so the layout of the Pei family's island was not exactly a secret.
Cen Yu remembered that when the original owner first learned that she would be living in the water house, she was very unhappy.
He felt this was a sign that Pei Heng didn't consider him "one of their own".
...Cen Yu looked at Pei Leyun with a probing gaze. Just now, an idea suddenly popped into his head.
Whose idea was it to live in a water villa?
Obviously, she wouldn't make that suggestion herself. Was it Pei Heng? Or Pei Leyun herself?
Even knowing that the Pei Leyun in front of him might be an imposter, Cen Yu still poked at the bacon on his plate with his fork and asked, "Was it Mr. Pei's idea to not let me stay in the villa?"
“We’ll have plenty of opportunities to come here for vacations in the future.” Pei Leyun blinked, not directly answering Cen Yu’s question, but subtly hinting that Pei Heng indeed didn’t want him to stay in the villa.
Cen Yu looked at Pei Leyun, "I thought you wanted to stay here." He poked at his bacon, showing no appetite whatsoever.
How could he possibly eat something so unimaginable? After poking at the bacon for a while, he put his fork on his plate and said, "I'm not hungry."
Upon hearing this, Pei Leyun put down his knife and fork. "Not to your liking?" He looked at Cen Yu. "Shall I go to the villa and make you something else?"
It's 11:10 now, and there's still a while until 12 o'clock... Cen Yu glanced at the still very calm sea and wondered what he would see if he looked down at the sea at 12 o'clock.
"What would you like to eat?" Pei Leyun asked, seeing that Cen Yu remained silent, seemingly assuming he was still upset about not being able to move into that villa. She immediately softened her voice. "Would you like to come with me to the villa's kitchen?"
"The refrigerator and storage cabinets are full of things; you might find something you like."
...
Cen Yu and Pei Leyun walked on the island. Apart from the developed areas, the rest of the island was an undeveloped jungle.
To make it easier for guests staying on the island to get around, there are beach buggies available for them to use behind the water villas.
Cen Yu sat in the passenger seat wearing sunglasses, his hair blowing wildly in the wind like tumbleweeds... Pei Leyun's driving skills weren't great, and Cen Yu had experienced quite a few bumps in the car, so he was even more curious about how the other person had managed to bring the two lunches back to the water house unscathed.
"We've arrived," Pei Leyun said to Cen Yu after stopping the beach motocross.
The villa in front of them was probably designed and built by Pei Heng later. Its style is completely different from the water house in front. The villa itself is built against the mountain, and the most eye-catching features are the infinity pool that occupies one side of the villa and the almost panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows.
After Cen Yu and Pei Leyun entered the villa, they found that the entire villa had almost no obstructed views, and the sea surrounding the island could be seen from any angle.
The rest area not only houses Pei Heng's art collection, but also features a uniquely designed clock hanging on one side of the wall.
I glanced at the time displayed above—
There are 10 minutes until 12 o'clock.
"I'll take you to the kitchen first," Pei Leyun said.
...
There weren't many things in the kitchen, but as Pei Leyun had said, the refrigerator was full of food, enough to feed them for a month.
Cen Yu took a bag of potato chips and noticed that all the text on the packaging was mirrored and upside down.
Pei Leyun continued selecting ingredients, then turned to Cen Yu and asked, "Would you like some porridge? I can cook some."
“Okay,” Cen Yu said.
Anyway, there's no way he could eat anything here. That's what ghost stories say—if you eat something from a dream, you'll never wake up again.
Upon hearing Cen Yu's reply, Pei Leyun immediately put on an apron and began preparing to cook porridge for Cen Yu.
Cen Yu pulled out a chair next to the island counter and sat down... watching Pei Leyun wash the ingredients they needed. "Where do you want to go after your honeymoon?"
"Let me think..." Pei Leyun rinsed the rice in her hands that she was preparing to cook porridge.
"Pei Leyun." Cen Yu sat by the island platform, resting his chin on his hand, watching Pei Leyun, who was busy with her back to him. "Did you follow me before?"
