Wedge (2)

She couldn't help swallowing and walked towards the grass carefully.

As they got closer, her heart beat faster and faster.

"Dong-dong-dong-dong"

She could almost feel the beating of her own heart.

She closed her eyes, swallowed again, and pushed aside the grass with trembling hands.

"Ah--" The scream became clear the moment the grass was pushed aside.

Her eyes slowly explored the grass.

Suddenly, she found a small window.

"What is this?" She leaned over to look at the window and was startled into a cold sweat:

Through the window is a small laboratory. On one side of the laboratory are two old men with white beards, holding notebooks and recording something; on the other side is a man curled up on the ground.

The man seemed to be in great pain, lying on the ground groaning and twitching.

She looked at the man's expression twisted in pain and couldn't help but shudder.

Just as she was about to leave secretly, one of the old men spoke:

"What should we do? Even such a strong person can't hold on. Do you think our research is wrong?"

"How about we try a few different types of people? What if this thing doesn't depend on physical fitness but mental willpower?"

"Change again? How can we change it? Our project has been called a 'death project'. Who else would come except those who want to commit suicide?"

After hearing this, she lowered her eyes slightly and began to sob.

The tears came more and more, and the sobs became louder and louder.

"Who?!" Her sobbing startled the two scientists. "Who's there?"

She knew she should escape, but she couldn't move her legs.

The word "suicide" froze her in place.

She felt like her soul was sucked away by these two words and she didn't want to move at all.

She opened her mouth, but found that no sound came out.

She cleared her throat. "Let me try. How much do you guys want?"

The two scientists were stunned. They didn't expect her to say that.

"Little girl, you've seen it too. You'll die..."

"I'm not afraid."

"Little girl, come in first, I'll tell you..."

She found a hidden entrance and walked through a long, dark tunnel until she finally came to the two scientists.

During this short yet long journey, scenes of her life flashed before her eyes.

Finally, I stayed on that cruel scene.

"Hello."

"Hello."

The two scientists looked her over. "Are you an adult? Can you make decisions for yourself?"

"I'm not an adult, but I can take responsibility for my own decisions. Please make my death appear accidental after I die. As for your request to survive, I will do my best."

"You are so young, there is still hope. Why do you want to give up hope?"

She was silent for a long time.

"Let me tell you a story."

"I used to live in a happy family. Although we were not rich, I loved my family very much..."

The story unfolded slowly, and tears as big as beans fell from the girl's eyes.

The scar was revealed bit by bit and exposed to everyone. The girl's voice began to tremble, but she insisted on finishing the story.

"I will try my best to survive. Please give me a chance."

"Little girl... Hey!"

The old man wanted to persuade her, but stopped talking when he saw the despair in the girl's eyes.

"I'm giving you this chance. If you don't make it, I'll give your parents 500,000 yuan. If you succeed, I'll give them 1 million yuan. But... have you really thought it through?"

The girl nodded slowly and solemnly. "Give me the medicine."

The girl took the pill and slowly brought it to her lips, tears streaming down her face. "If there is an afterlife, I don't want to be born as a human anymore."
