"Lin Qiumei!"
Lin Jingyue stopped in her tracks. Hearing the voice, she turned around with a mocking smile on her lips and looked at the person.
"Is something the matter, Aunt Chen?"
Hearing this address, Granny Chen's heart skipped a beat, but looking at the other woman's glamorous appearance, her eyes gleamed with jealousy. Those were the good days her son deserved, but it was all because this wretched woman refused to give up her job!
"You seem to be living a pretty good life, but have you ever thought about how your child's father is suffering? How can you be so shameless?"
"Why am I embarrassed? Remember, I'm divorced from Chen Lao Er. His affairs have nothing to do with me. You had no objections when I took Baozhu away, and you shouldn't have any objections now." Lin Jingyue brushed aside her wind-blown hair and chuckled softly.
"What's going on? Chen Lao Er can't find a new wife, so he wants to go back to his old flame? But let me tell you clearly, remarriage is impossible. From now on, we'll go our separate ways and have nothing to do with each other!"
"You're talking nonsense! Chen Zhaodi is a child of our Chen family. You took away my family's bloodline, and you still want to have nothing to do with us? Do you believe I won't sue you? When the police come, don't blame me for not warning you!" Granny Chen was a little out of control and actually thought of going out to sue the police.
But what are you going to sue? Sue someone's biological mother for kidnapping her own child and taking him home to raise? Isn't that ridiculous?
What good would it do to take the child back? If they don't take good care of the child, Lin Jingyue could even go to the police station and accuse them of child abuse.
Such a counterproductive approach can only be thought about in one's mind.
"Aunt Chen, I call you Aunt Chen because we've known each other for so many years. You really think you're something special? The gap between us is like the Milky Way. Do you know what the Milky Way is? It's the river that separates the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. That's the difference between you and me." Lin Jingyue humiliated her without giving her any face.
The original owner could endure those humiliations, but she couldn't. This old hag has abused Xiaomingyue for years, leaving her in such a state, and she only made a few sarcastic remarks, without lifting a finger. What's the big deal?
Granny Chen was furious; her slanted, triangular eyes were practically wide open, and her lips were trembling—she was clearly very angry.
"Do you really think a woman like you who's been married before can get married again? What market is there for a divorced woman? Matchmakers will only introduce you to men who are missing limbs. I'm already letting you get back together with my son, you should be secretly happy! Don't try to act tough in front of me. I've seen more of life than you have, I know exactly what you're thinking."
She just wants to save face for herself so she can control her mother-in-law when she goes back to her husband's family. Who doesn't know such a simple trick? It's something we've all done before, nothing new.
"Your son is such a good-for-nothing? Even a dog wouldn't want him!" Lin Jingyue stood there quietly, a gentle breeze ruffling her hair. The aura emanating from within made her appear much more noble.
Lin Qiumei used to dress in tattered clothes and never bothered to take care of herself. She would hunch over while doing farm work, never daring to look people in the eye, always walking behind with her head down. She was practically invisible and was a favorite target of Granny Chen's bullying.
But now she is beautiful, confident, and impeccably groomed. She doesn't look like a rural woman at all; instead, she looks like a child who grew up in the city. She's completely different from before.
Granny Chen was stunned for a moment. A sense of inferiority arose from the bottom of her heart. Recalling the sales clerk's attitude towards the two of them, that invisible inferiority felt like it was enveloping her whole body, making her feel a little breathless.
"Who knows how you got this job? You're just a rural woman, how could you possibly have that kind of skill?" The sarcastic remark slipped out, full of malice.
Lin Jingyue's expression turned cold. This world has never lacked malicious speculation about women, and these speculations don't just come from men, but also from women themselves. They themselves often don't even realize that many times, it's not others who are destroying the environment, but themselves.
“Aunt Chen, you can eat shit, but you can’t say whatever you want. You should know that there’s a law in China specifically for defamation. If I report you to the police, I can make sure you spend a year in jail!”
There are laws, but they're not that serious. However, for an elderly woman who doesn't understand the law, she believed it without question.
"You, you, I was just saying it casually, why are you in such a hurry?" Granny Chen stammered, afraid that the other party would really go to the police station to report it.
Lin Jingyue tilted her head and sneered, "We have nothing to do with each other anymore. It would be best if we could keep things separate. If not, we'd rather die than lose each other. You can try to see if I can do it."
Would Granny Chen dare to try? For the sake of bringing glory to her ancestors, she couldn't possibly risk her life!
"Being a mother-in-law or daughter-in-law with someone like you is just bad luck!" She glared angrily at Lin Jingyue, then hurriedly left.
Some people are just bullies who prey on the weak; if you raise your voice even slightly, she'll back down. Besides, she was the one who suffered in the first two conflicts, and she can't guarantee she'll win next time. Things are peaceful at home now, so she'll let it go; if the family falls apart, that would be truly terrible.
Watching Granny Chen's departing figure, Lin Jingyue curled her lips. She had no offensive power at all; this old lady was no good either.
Looking down at the taciturn Xiaomingyue, she squatted down and touched her slightly chubby face. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Xiaomingyue looked up, her eyes reflecting her mother's image. "Mom, I don't like Grandma. She often bullies me with Yaozu."
"Mommy didn't like her either, so Mommy divorced Daddy and took you away from that home. But baby, you won't have a daddy anymore. Will you blame Mommy?"
Xiaomingyue shook her head without hesitation, "I don't like my dad either. He never cares when Yaozu bullies me. Besides, he doesn't like me either."
Chen Lao Er is a patriarchal man; how could he possibly like this daughter?
The next second, Xiaomingyue hugged her mother and said in a muffled voice, "I only need Mom. Mom will always be with me, right?"
Lin Jingyue hugged her back and gently stroked the top of her head. "Yes, Mommy will always be by your side, my baby."
"Let's go home. Didn't you say you were going to tell Little Stone about today's movie?"
"Yes. But I made a deal with Little Stone: he has to get 80 points on the test I gave him before he can hear the story."
"Then hurry back and see how many points Little Stone has scored."
