Chapter 6 The Last Girl in the Entire Universe (6)

The mugwort was harvested in just half an hour.

She arrived at the center of the meteorite, which was heavily guarded by machines and surveillance cameras.

She leaned against the wall, looking at the ten-meter-diameter metal sphere, kicked the severed hand of a robot at her feet to the side, and then stuck the USB drive onto the metal sphere.

This sphere is AI Nana's base station.

Artemisia and Jasmine chatted: "Jasmine, can you connect?"

"no problem."

On the other end of the in-ear monitor, Xia Moli was holding another USB flash drive of the same shape. She calmed her mind and used her mental power to connect the two USB flash drives together.

“Start transmitting data,” Xia Moli said. “It is expected to take another fifteen minutes.”

"Should I wait here?" Ai Cao asked. "Does that... that device that was stuck on need to be retrieved?"

“No need to recycle,” Xia Moli said. “But there’s a problem here; I still need to crack the key…”

Her short voice paused for a moment.

The mugwort held its breath.

Unlike the slightly distorted voice coming through her in-ear monitor, Xia Moli's voice was different—there was a sound coming from beside her.

"Wait a moment," Ai Cao whispered.

She quickly raised her gun and aimed it at the source of the sound.

The area was covered by a large expanse of metal. Ai Cao remembered that there used to be several men in white coats there, but she had shot them all down with a gun. As for the metal, it had fallen down accidentally and had nothing to do with her.

She asked the system, "Can you detect what's there?"

"Give me three seconds," the system replied quickly. "The scan results are in; it's a girl."

The mugwort punched the brain system hard.

"Just kidding, there are no girls in this world now." The system admitted defeat. "I think it's the juvenile form of a growth-type robot, and judging from its external features, it's a female robot."

"Is there any hostility?" Ai Cao asked.

“No,” the system said. “She has no consciousness, nor is she hostile. There may be pre-programmed instinctive behaviors, but she’s a robot now. You can treat her as a body without a soul.”

Ai Cao relaxed a little. She hung the gun back on her body and went to move the piece of metal that was covering the ruins.

She quickly lifted the metal sheet to the side.

Below is a very young girl.

The girl's eyes were as clear as the sky after a rain, and her face was as vibrant as a newborn apple.

The little girl with black hair and black eyes was wearing only a white, long-sleeved, long-legged bodysuit. It seemed to have been grazed by a piece of metal, as one sleeve was now a tattered strip.

Is this what the system meant by the growth-type robot's...juvenile form?

The mugwort asked, "What's your name?"

The girl didn't react. Her clear, glassy eyes stared calmly at the mugwort—the only human in her field of vision.

The only human in her field of vision—Ai Cao—was continuing to rummage through the documents scattered on the ground.

Even though the world's technology has advanced to the point where teleportation can be easily achieved, this place still uses paper for recording.

Ai Cao turned to a document marked "Top Secret" on the cover.

—A study on the possibility of enabling bionic intelligent beings to reproduce through artificial intervention.

Artemisia frowned as she turned two pages, and the system in her mind exclaimed in surprise:

"The people in this world are rotten to the core; even robots can't satisfy their desire for control."

The system then conveyed to Ai Cao a simplified summary of the book's contents.

The main content of this book is an extension of its title: Humans living on this artificial planet are conducting covert experiments related to AI.

When Ai Cao looked at the girl again, a hint of pity unconsciously appeared in her eyes.

The girl was still looking at her.

This was her only instinctive behavior.

Because that's how human babies are.

Although they may cry to attract their mother's attention and enhance their competitiveness, more often than not, they will identify their mother by looking at her.

However, because there are no women left in this world, and the girl's mother has not yet been chosen, she can only focus on one specific human being within her field of vision.

Now she is gazing at the mugwort.

“…Jasmine,” Artemisia said, “I’ve encountered a cyborg robot. Can I take her back with me?”

“Okay,” Xia Moli said. “When I was working on the transmission system, I also noticed some unusual parts of the code. I’ll modify them directly first, and once Nana can communicate normally, I can ask her directly.”

They chatted casually about their current situation.

The data was transmitted quickly.

Ai Cao reached out her hand to the girl: "Would you like to come with me?"

The girl looked at her calmly.

Ai Cao smiled slightly. She didn't know what she was expecting—no matter how much the girl resembled a human child in appearance, her body was mechanical and metallic. She shouldn't possess human thoughts either—

Xia Moli's voice was a little nervous: "Aicao, I suddenly sensed an abnormal energy fluctuation here. Is there some kind of emergency? Do you need my help...?"

Artemisia seemed to suddenly lose all hearing. All she could see was that slow, deliberate movement, as if it were just beginning to familiarize itself with its body—

The girl's soft little hand was placed in her palm.

The girl's hands were warm. The slightly warmer body temperature of a child seeped through Ai Cao's palms, warming her cold heart considerably.

Ai Cao quietly greeted the male protagonist's parents.

“It’s okay,” she said. “I’ll bring the child back.”
