Ai Cao patted the little fox again and asked the system where the nearest mortal city was.
The system said, "The nearest city is 800 miles away. Do you want to walk there? Or should you fly there on your sword?"
Ai Cao asked, "Can one fly a sword without spiritual power?"
The system said, "...Give it a try."
Artemisia summoned the sword again. She placed it on the ground and tentatively stepped on it.
The sword did not react.
Artemisia picked up the sword and negotiated with it, "You won't let me step on it?"
The sword emitted a faint hum.
Artemisia continued, "Can you fly? If you don't let me step on you, I can carry you and let you fly."
The longsword flew up and its hilt struck the head of the artemisia plant hard.
The mugwort said, "You can fly. Then I'll carry you and fly."
She held the sleeping little fox comfortably in one arm, and gripped her sword in the other.
The system gave a dry description of the locations of nearby mortal cities.
Artemisia told Jian the location and asked, "Can you take me there?"
The sword hummed and disappeared from Ai Cao's hand. Then, another, heavier, and wider silver-white longsword appeared in her hand.
The system asked, puzzled, "How come you have more than one natal sword? That shouldn't be the case..."
Ai Cao weighed the broadsword in her hand.
She placed the broadsword on the ground and tried stepping on it.
Unlike the previous sword's silent resistance, this broadsword automatically created a semi-transparent spiritual energy barrier around it after the mugwort stepped on it.
It rose slowly and steadily, and once it reached mid-air, it turned the tip of its sword and flew toward the direction she had previously indicated.
Although it was her first time flying on a sword, the broadsword flew steadily and quickly. Standing on the sword, Ai Cao felt no different from standing on flat ground.
Ai Cao asked, "Is there only one natal sword in the cultivation gift pack?"
The system said, "Yes." It explained, "Even a cultivation gift package limited to a single world cannot exceed the rules and limitations of this world."
"In this world, even the most powerful cultivators, who are closest to ascension, can only refine one natal sword. Therefore, the gift pack can't possibly give you an extra natal sword."
"I'll go ask the central platform again..." the system muttered.
Ai Cao comforted it: "It's okay, the platform has been fixing bugs lately, right? It's better not to report it than to report it. What if they fix more and more bugs and turn these two natal swords into nine?"
The system hesitated for a moment, then said, "I'll still report it, just in case it affects you."
It fell silent.
Ai Cao stood on the sword, holding the little fox. The sword tip cleaved the wind, leaving only a gentle breeze brushing against her cheek.
This is a good time to check on my own condition, she thought.
Although she had just stabbed one of the male supporting characters, she guessed that the cultivators she would encounter later would not be so easy to kill.
Ai Cao calmed herself down, trying to find the so-called cultivation level within her own body. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't see inside her body like the powerful cultivators in the stories.
She persevered.
On one attempt, she almost succeeded—
But she was thrown away by a hail of swords.
Although the sword hilts were the ones that hit her, and she wasn't actually injured, Ai Cao was still a little dazed from the impact.
After a brief moment of thought, Ai Cao glanced at the broadsword at her feet.
The broadsword at her feet remained silent, but its speed gradually slowed down.
It began to fall.
A prosperous city came into Ai Cao's view. Although it was still far away, the noisy sounds of traffic in the city had already reached Ai Cao's ears on the wind.
It was also whispered in the little fox's ear.
Its furry ears twitched, and it turned toward the direction from which the sound came.
Artemisia petted the little fox twice, and the broadsword fell to the ground. As Artemisia stepped off the broadsword, it vanished on its own. Artemisia then tried to summon her longsword, and the first and most frequently used one appeared in her hand.
As if realizing that Ai Cao no longer had any problems that required the sword to solve, the longsword broke free from her hand, flew up and struck her on the head, and then disappeared.
Ai Cao sighed and said, "Why did my natal sword hit me?"
The system sighed and said wearily, "Why has the middle platform discovered another serious bug... Anyway, our situation isn't serious."
The mugwort nodded.
The broadsword's chosen landing point was in the woods outside the city. Seeing Artemisia looking around blankly, the system remembered that Artemisia didn't have much spiritual power and thoughtfully provided her with a map of the nearby area.
Not far from the woods, there was a wide official road leading to the city gate.
Ai Cao, carrying the little fox, slowly walked out of the woods and headed towards the city gate along the official road.
Carriages flowed along the main road, while on either side came several ordinary people carrying large and small bags. When they caught sight of Ai Cao, the features on her face seemed to shrink inward, and she urged each other to move away from her.
Artemisia frowned.
Fortunately, although the mortals secretly watched her, they didn't dare to speak to her.
She arrived at the city gate unharmed.
There was a long queue waiting here.
The soldiers at the city gate took the civilian's identification card, checked it, and then returned it to the civilian.
Several soldiers maintaining order in the ranks secretly glanced at the mugwort.
Seeing that she was standing at the end of the queue, seemingly about to enter the city with the mortals, they ran as fast as they could towards the city gate and told the guards there.
Artemisia calmly observed their reactions.
She stood at the end of the line, moving forward with the group of ordinary people dressed in earth-yellow linen clothes.
