Soon, the mugwort stood in front of the soldier.
The soldier lowered his head nervously. He stammered a few times before saying, "Please... show me your identification."
After thinking for a moment, Ai Cao said honestly, "I don't have any identification."
"Then...please take the Path of Immortals to enter the city," the soldier stammered. "Please enter the city on your own."
Artemisia asked, "How do I get to the Immortal's Path?"
The soldier looked up at her, then looked down again. The woman was dressed in flowing white, a color only immortals could wear; the two-tailed fox in her arms was not an ordinary wild beast, but rather a spirit pet kept by the woman.
Where can one find an immortal asking a mortal, "How do I walk the path of immortality?"
The soldier was dissatisfied, but still said, "The path to immortality is taken from the heavens, and beyond that... it's something that we mortals can't possibly know."
The mugwort nodded.
She lightly touched the ground with her feet, leaped onto the city wall, and then landed safely on the other side.
She asked the system, "Why do you use such a polite way to describe 'circumventing the Great Firewall'?"
The system was silent for a moment, then said, "Is there any possibility—and I mean possibility"—it asked dryly, "Is the Immortal Path really in the sky, and what that soldier was talking about wasn't about climbing over a wall?"
Ai Cao shrugged: "I've already flipped through it all."
She's already in the city, we can't just kick her out again.
She smiled and patted the little fox in her arms.
The little fox had already woken up, but still lingered in the embrace of the mugwort, unwilling to move.
It straightened its upper body and curiously looked around; its two furry tails swished behind it, one of which affectionately curled around the artemisia's arm, while the other coiled back around its side.
The system said, "A fox with two tails is only just beginning to develop intelligence." It added, "Only with three tails can one cultivate into human form."
Artemisia patted the little fox's head. She followed the little fox's back, all the way to the tip of its tail, which was coiled around its body.
She asked, "Where is the nearest male supporting character?"
