As Lin Qian walked out of Zhao the carpenter's house, 003 said to her, "Host, look, it's the male and female leads." Lin Qian looked up and saw Liu Cui, Su Yao, and Zhao Yu walking towards her. Lin Qian didn't intend to pay them any attention and turned to leave.
However, Liu Cui rushed forward and blocked Lin Qian's path, questioning, "Lin Qian, why didn't you invite us to come shopping with you? You're so selfish! We're all educated youth who came here together; we should help each other!"
Lin Qian stopped in her tracks, a mocking smile playing on her lips. "Oh, isn't this Liu Cui? I thought it was someone else. I buy things based on my own needs. I'm not your nanny, expected to think of you in everything."
Liu Cui didn't understand the meaning behind Lin Qian's words. She paused for a moment and said, "What are you saying? I don't understand."
Lin Qian sneered, "Don't understand? Then let me put it more clearly. Who do you think you are? You're always making a racket, and you're not even that bright. You expect everyone to revolve around you?"
It took Liu Cui a moment to realize that Lin Qian was insulting her. She was immediately enraged and shouted, "Lin Qian, how dare you insult me!"
At this moment, Su Yao stepped forward, tugged at Liu Cui's arm, and said softly, "Oh, Liu Cui, don't be angry. Lin Qian might be in a bad mood and spoke a bit harshly. Let's not hold it against her." Then she looked at Lin Qian, her eyes filled with a hint of grievance, and said, "Lin Qian, we're all educated youth. We should be considerate of each other in this harsh place. What you said really hurts. Brother Yu, please talk to Lin Qian." As she spoke, she looked at Zhao Yu and called out sweetly, "Brother Zhao Yu."
Zhao Yu frowned and said to Lin Qian, "Lin Qian, we're all from the same educated youth settlement, there's no need to make things so tense. Be more magnanimous and don't be so petty."
Lin Qian rolled her eyes at Zhao Yu and said, "Zhao Yu, stop pretending to be a good person. Why should I be magnanimous? Liu Cui came up to me without even asking what happened, and Su Yao, always putting on this pitiful act, who are you trying to fool? Do you think I'm easy to bully?"
Zhao Yu was embarrassed by Lin Qian's retort and said with a displeased expression, "Lin Qian, how can you talk like that? We are all here to build the countryside and should work together. Your words will affect the harmonious atmosphere of our educated youth settlement."
Lin Qian scoffed, "A harmonious atmosphere? You think you can have harmony? Don't dream! I think you're all a bunch of selfish people, only thinking about your own interests and expecting others to cater to you. Let me tell you, no way!" After saying that, Lin Qian ignored them and left.
Liu Cui stomped her feet in anger behind them, while Su Yao looked at Zhao Yu with tears in her eyes and a wronged expression. Zhao Yu also looked helpless.
After speaking, Lin Qian turned and walked towards the village entrance without hesitation. Sunlight shone on her, casting a long, thin shadow. Her steps were firm, and she was thinking of hurrying to the town to buy some necessities.
Upon arriving at the village entrance under the large tree, several women were already waiting for the oxcart. Some carried baskets, others bundles, and they were chatting animatedly. Lin Qian stepped forward, nodded slightly to them, and then found a relatively quiet corner to stand in.
A plump woman smiled and said to the person next to her, "My basket is full of fresh eggs. I'm going to take it to town to exchange for some salt and needles and thread." Another thin woman chimed in, "My bundle contains some dried goods that I've dried myself. I'm thinking of selling them in town for a good price." They chatted back and forth, their faces beaming with simple, honest smiles.
Just then, a creaking sound came from afar, and the old cart driver slowly drove his oxcart to the foot of the tree. The old man's face bore the marks of time; he wore a faded jacket, and a pipe dangled from his lips, occasionally taking a puff and exhaling smoke rings. He skillfully brought the oxcart to a stop and called out, "Get on, everyone! Let's go!"
Several women rose and skillfully climbed onto the oxcart. The plump woman carefully placed the basket at her feet, as if afraid of breaking the eggs. The thin woman, on the other hand, clutched her bundle tightly to her chest, treating it like a precious treasure.
Lin Qian got into the car as well. After looking around carefully, she found that one corner of the car was spacious enough, so she went over and sat down. She adjusted her posture to make herself as comfortable as possible. Lin Qian thought to herself that she could take a nap later and arrive in town without even realizing it.
As soon as Lin Qian sat down, she found herself standing among several women and older women. Some of the women were looking her up and down, whispering among themselves. The old man driving the cart was quite surprised that Lin Qian had found out where to catch the oxcart so early in the village. He thought to himself that this educated youth seemed to be a shrewd and intelligent person, and he shouldn't offend her.
After getting on the bus, a bold older woman noticed Lin Qian's well-dressed appearance and fair skin and approached her, asking, "Young lady, are you a newly arrived educated youth? Where are you from? Do you have a boyfriend?" Lin Qian politely replied, "Auntie, I'm a newly arrived educated youth, and I'm from the city. I don't want to find a boyfriend right now." The older woman, unwilling to give up, said, "Oh, young lady, I have a nephew, he's a very good person. I think you two would be a good match, why don't you consider it?" Lin Qian asked, "Auntie, what does your nephew do?" The older woman beamed, "My nephew... he's probably done something, but he hasn't found a suitable job yet, but that's not a problem." Hearing this, Lin Qian roughly understood that her nephew was probably unemployed, so she politely declined, saying, "Auntie, thank you for your kindness, but I really don't want to find a boyfriend."
