Chapter 16: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (15)

When the old woman saw Lin Qian refuse, her face changed immediately, and she cursed without thinking, "You little slut, you little hussy, I'm trying to help you find a partner, and you don't even appreciate it!" Lin Qian was so angry at this sudden insult that her face turned pale.

At this moment, an older woman couldn't stand it anymore and spoke up to stop her, saying, "Everyone knows your nephew. He's almost thirty and still idles around all day, doing no work and just wasting his time. How can you have the nerve to introduce him to a girl?" The older woman felt a little guilty after being told this, but she still stubbornly said, "What's wrong with my nephew? He's still better than this ungrateful girl!"

Seeing the tense atmosphere, the old man driving the cart quickly tried to smooth things over: "Alright, alright, everyone, say less, we still have a long way to go!" The crowd quieted down, and the oxcart continued its slow journey, the wheels making a "gurgling" sound as they rolled across the ground. Lin Qian felt annoyed but didn't want to argue with the old woman anymore. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself down.

Lin Qian had just closed her eyes, preparing to take a nap before reaching town. Just as she was drifting off to sleep, she suddenly heard urgent shouts: "Stop! Stop! We need to go to town too!"

Lin Qian was startled awake by the shout. She opened her eyes and looked in the direction of the sound. She saw Liu Cuicui running and waving her arms, shouting, "Wait for us!" Her face was covered in sweat and her hair was a little messy, but her eyes showed determination.

Zhao Yu and Su Yao were also running desperately to catch up with the oxcart. Zhao Yu's strides were large, and he seemed to be struggling, but he still gritted his teeth and persevered. Su Yao, on the other hand, was panting heavily, her cheeks flushed, and she was tightly clutching a small cloth bag in her hand.

Hearing the shouts, the old driver slowly pulled on the reins, bringing the oxcart to a stop. "Why are you only arriving now?" the old man asked, somewhat displeased.

Liu Cuicui ran to the oxcart, gripped the shaft, and gasped for breath, saying, "Oh dear, something came up and I was delayed, but luckily I made it in time."

Zhao Yu and Su Yao arrived shortly after. They got into the car and found a place to sit. Zhao Yu wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to the old man, "Thank you for your trouble, sir."

Su Yao said somewhat apologetically to the people in the car, "I'm sorry to have kept you all waiting."
