Chapter 21 Broken Youth 11

Seeing her parents' happy faces, Lin Qian felt a surge of happiness in her heart.

On the way back to their old home, Mr. and Mrs. Lin were in exceptionally high spirits, their faces beaming with happiness. Sitting in the car, their excitement was still palpable, their words filled with anticipation for their new life.

"Oh my, this new house is wonderful! We must move in right away," Mr. Lin said with a smile, his eyes sparkling with joy.

"Yes, I can't wait! But we need to plan this move carefully, we have to move all our things over there." Lin's mother chimed in, her face full of anticipation.

“Yes, yes, especially those pieces of furniture that have been used for many years. Although they are a bit old, we have grown attached to them and can’t throw them away,” said Mr. Lin.

"And my clothes, although some styles are outdated, are still wearable!" Lin's mother added.

And so, Mr. and Mrs. Lin discussed the move back and forth, as if they could already see the wonderful life they would have in their new home.

When it came time to move, Mr. and Mrs. Lin faced a dilemma. Looking at all the belongings in the house, they didn't want to throw anything away, feeling that each item carried their memories and emotions.

“This table is a bit old, but it was bought when we got married. We can’t throw it away!” Mr. Lin said reluctantly, looking at the somewhat worn table.

"And this quilt, although it's a bit torn, it's warm to cover myself with, so we can't throw it away." Lin's mother hugged the old quilt, unwilling to put it down.

"And these old clothes, although the styles are no longer new, they can still be worn!" Lin's mother sorted through the clothes, her face full of reluctance.

Looking at her parents, Lin Qian understood their feelings, but she also knew that bringing too many old things to their new home wasn't practical. So, she decided to help her parents make some reasonable choices.

“Dad, Mom, I know these things are very meaningful to you, but the space in the new house is limited, and we really can’t bring everything with us. Look at this chair, it’s not very stable anymore, and it’s troublesome to fix. Why don’t we give it to Uncle Wang next door, whom we’re on good terms with? They happen to need a chair. This way, it won’t be a waste, and it can also improve neighborly relations. What do you think?” Lin Qian patiently persuaded.

Lin's father hesitated upon hearing this, after all, this chair had been with him for many years.

Lin Qian continued, "Mom, we can pick out some of these old clothes that are decent in style and quality and give them to relatives, friends, or the neighborhood kids. The rest that we can't wear anymore, we can take to the secondhand market and sell them for ten or twenty yuan each, that should help us recoup some of our costs. What do you think?"

After thinking for a while, Lin's mother felt that Lin Qian's suggestion made some sense.

Lin Qian continued, "Dad, Mom, we're starting a new life, and we can't let these old things hold us back. We can bring our most precious and memorable things to our new home so they can continue to accompany us, while also making more space in the new home to make our lives more comfortable and wonderful."

After Lin Qian's patient persuasion, Lin's parents finally agreed to her suggestion.
