Chapter 49: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (48)

“But…” Su Yao wanted to argue, her eyes filled with reluctance.

"Alright, it's decided then." Su Erge interrupted her again. "I'll make arrangements as soon as possible. You should also prepare yourself and sincerely apologize to Lin Qian. Remember, your attitude must be sincere, and don't try to be clever again. Also, explain why you pushed Lin Qian into the water this time." His eyes were fixed on Su Yao, as if warning her.

Although Su Yao was dissatisfied, she dared not disobey her second brother's decision and could only mutter, "I know." Her voice was low, carrying a hint of helplessness and reluctance.

The next day, as agreed, Brother Su summoned Zhao Yu and everyone from the educated youth settlement. Everyone arrived at the designated place, filled with questions, wondering why Brother Su had gathered them together.

Su Yao stood pale-faced before the crowd, her eyes darting around, avoiding eye contact with anyone. She bit her lip until it turned white, and finally spoke in a trembling voice, "I...I apologize to Lin Qian. I was jealous of her before, so I deliberately framed her, saying many hurtful things and doing many excessive things. This time, I also wanted to push Lin Qian into the water, but I fell in myself. That was also my fault."

I know I was wrong, and I hope Lin Qian can forgive me.

Upon hearing Su Yao's words, the crowd erupted in an uproar.

Zhao Yu was so shocked that his eyes widened; he simply couldn't believe his ears. He had always thought Su Yao was a simple and kind girl, and he never imagined she would do such a thing. His heart was filled with disappointment and disbelief; he stared blankly at Su Yao, speechless for a moment.

At this moment, Su Erge stepped forward, his expression serious and earnest. "Everyone, my sister Su Yao has done something wrong, and as her brother, I apologize to you all." He paused, then continued, "I'm clarifying things here to give everyone an explanation. At the same time, I've decided to take Su Yao away from here, hoping she can reflect on her actions."

The people at the educated youth settlement began to discuss the matter. Some felt that Su Yao's behavior was too much and that she should be punished; others thought that Su Erge's actions were correct, and that letting Su Yao leave would prevent further trouble.

Zhao Yu was still in shock. He looked at Su Yao, his heart filled with complex emotions. He recalled all the little things he had done with Su Yao, and those beautiful memories now seemed so pale. He didn't know how to face Su Yao, who was once familiar but now felt like a stranger, nor did he know how to view his second brother's decision.

Seeing everyone's reaction, Su Erge continued, "I know this incident has had some impact on everyone, and I apologize again. I will educate Su Yao so that she won't make the same mistake again." After saying that, he took Su Yao's hand and prepared to leave.

Su Yao lowered her head, not daring to meet everyone's gazes, and silently followed her second brother away. Zhao Yu watched their departing figures, his heart unable to find peace for a long time.

The morning after she apologized, before the sunlight had fully illuminated the educated youth settlement, Su Yao silently began packing her belongings. The other female educated youths at the settlement gathered around, watching Su Yao's busy figure, their eyes revealing a variety of complex emotions.

Standing in the crowd, Liu Cui felt a pang of emotion. She recalled some small favors Su Yao had done for her, and despite their past disagreements, she decided to lend Su Yao a hand. Liu Cui stepped forward and helped Su Yao carry her luggage to the jeep parked outside the educated youth settlement.

Su Yao looked at Liu Cui, a hint of gratitude flashing in her eyes, and said softly, "Thank you, Liu Cui."

Liu Cui smiled and said, "It's nothing, it's all in the past. I wish you all the best in the future."

After saying goodbye to the other educated youth, Su Yao got into the jeep. The sound of the car starting up was particularly loud in the quiet educated youth settlement. Zhao Yu stayed alone in his room. He couldn't accept Su Yao's departure, so he chose to avoid it and didn't come out to see her off.

While Su Yao was packing her things, Su's second brother found Zhao Yu. A somber atmosphere filled Zhao Yu's room; he sat on the edge of the bed, his face gloomy.

The second brother of the Su family looked at Zhao Yu and said calmly, "Zhao Yu, I know you're not feeling well, but some things have already happened and can't be changed. Your family is very worried about you, and they hope you're doing well."

Zhao Yu raised his head, glanced at Su's second brother, his eyes filled with pain and helplessness, but he said nothing.

The second brother of the Su family patted Zhao Yu on the shoulder, then turned and left. Before leaving, he glanced at Lin Qian's room, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes, lost in thought.

The jeep slowly drove away from the educated youth settlement. Su Yao looked out the window at the settlement as it receded into the distance, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She knew that her time as an educated youth had come to an end, and she didn't know what the future held.
