Chapter 5: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (4 years)

The Lin family members returned home one after another. It was gradually getting dark, and gloomy clouds blanketed the sky, making the already dimly lit house feel even more oppressive. A somber atmosphere permeated the room, as if a storm was about to break.

As soon as everyone entered the house, they noticed something was wrong. The once tidy room was now a mess; drawers were open, clothes were scattered all over the floor, and the contents of the closets were ransacked. The entire house was instantly filled with an atmosphere of anger and panic.

Lin's mother stared wide-eyed at the chaotic scene, trembling with rage. "What happened? Who did this?!" she roared furiously.

The Lin siblings were stunned by the scene. Ignoring everything else, they rushed to their rooms to check. The eldest sister screamed as she ran towards her room, "My room! My things!"

Third Brother also strode into his room with a gloomy face, muttering, "Damn it, if I find out who did this, I'll make him pay!"

The fifth sister and sixth brother were so frightened that they burst into tears and ran to their rooms while crying.

In an instant, the entire house was filled with shouts, cries, and the sounds of things being rummaged through, creating utter chaos.

Lin's mother was the first to jump out, her face contorted with rage, her eyes practically spitting fire. Like an enraged lion, she charged straight at Lin Qian, cursing and shouting, "It must have been you, you wretched girl, you jinx! I'll beat you to death!" As she spoke, she raised her hand high, about to slap Lin Qian across the face.

Lin Qian's siblings joined in the commotion, pouncing on her like wolves. The eldest sister shrieked, "Lin Qian, you ungrateful wretch! You eat our food, use our money, and now you dare to steal our money! You're a heartless wretch, you deserve to die a horrible death!" Her words were extremely vicious, each one like a sharp sword piercing Lin Qian's heart.

Third Brother angrily waved his fist and roared, "Give us back our money, or I'll cripple you today! You slut, do you think we don't know what you're thinking?" His eyes were full of ferocity and disgust.

Although the fifth sister and sixth brother were young, they also joined in the crying and fussing: "Bad sister, you stole our money! You are a thief, the police should arrest you!" Their cries made the whole scene even more chaotic.

Lin Qian coldly stared at these so-called family members, her heart filled with disdain and anger. Her gaze was firm, unfazed by their imposing manner. However, to avoid complicating matters further, she decided to feign weakness for the time being.

"I didn't steal your money, don't frame me!" Lin Qian said in a trembling voice, a hint of fear in her eyes. In fact, she was completely calm. She had hidden the money in her system space, and she had arranged the scene to look like a theft. She was confident that she could handle this crisis.

"You still dare to talk back! Who else could it be but you? You're the most annoying person in this family. All you do is eat for free, and now you've even learned to steal money!" The eldest sister continued to curse viciously, her spittle flying everywhere, her appearance extremely ferocious.

"That's right, you jinx! Ever since you came to our house, not a single good thing has happened!" Third Brother chimed in, taking a step forward to grab Lin Qian.

Seeing this, Lin Qian quickly retreated, trying to avoid being captured by her third brother. Her body trembled slightly, and she looked very scared, but in reality, her brain was working at a rapid pace, thinking about how to deal with the situation.

Neighbor's testimony

Just as Lin's mother's slap was about to land on Lin Qian's face, Aunt Zhang and Uncle Li arrived with a group of neighbors. Aunt Zhang was a kind-hearted person, and upon seeing the situation, she immediately shouted, "What are you doing? How can you hit someone like that!"

Grandpa Li quickly stepped forward and stopped Lin's mother: "Let's talk this out, don't resort to violence!"

Aunt Zhang continued, "We can testify that Lin Qian went to help Grandma Wang move things early this morning and didn't have time to come back to steal money!" Her voice was loud and firm, which surprised everyone present.

Grandpa Li nodded and said, "Yes, we can all testify to Lin Qian's alibi. We all saw her in the neighborhood helping Grandma Wang with chores from morning until noon; everyone knows that."

Lin's mother's hand froze in mid-air. She looked at Lin Qian and the neighbors with suspicion, her mind filled with doubt. She couldn't understand why Lin Qian had an alibi.

"How is this possible? She must have hired someone to give false testimony for her!" the older woman shouted indignantly, her eyes filled with suspicion and anger.

"That's right, she's an outsider, why are Aunt Zhang and Uncle Li speaking up for her? They must have taken bribes from her!" Third Brother chimed in, his words full of malice.

Upon hearing this, Aunt Zhang's face turned red with anger: "What are you saying? We're speaking from the heart. Lin Qian was indeed helping Grandma Wang move her things; everyone saw it! You lost your own money, so you just accuse someone else. Is that reasonable?"

Grandpa Li also said, "Don't make false accusations! Although Lin Qian has suffered a lot of grievances from you, she is still a kind-hearted person. You can't blame her just because you lost your money."

The neighbors nodded in agreement with what Aunt Zhang and Uncle Li had said.

"Maybe it really wasn't her? Let's check our money carefully again; maybe we put it in the wrong place," a neighbor whispered, his eyes filled with dissatisfaction as he looked at the Lin family.
