Chapter 5: Educated Youth Sent Down to the Countryside (4 years)

“Yes, we can’t just falsely accuse people. We’re all neighbors, we see each other all the time, why make things so tense?” another neighbor said, trying to persuade the Lin family to calm the dispute down.

Hearing their neighbors' words, the Lin family members, though still somewhat unwilling, couldn't say anything more. After all, so many neighbors had testified on Lin Qian's behalf, and they couldn't completely disregard their opinions.

"Where did the money go? It couldn't have just disappeared for no reason!" Lin's mother muttered to herself, her eyes still filled with doubt and unease.

"That brat must have hidden the money. We need to search her room thoroughly!" the eldest sister said viciously, a glint of malice flashing in her eyes.

"Yes, we can't just let this go! Let's search her room!" Third Brother added, leading his brothers and sisters toward Lin Qian's room.

Seeing this, Lin Qian inwardly cried out in alarm. She knew that if they searched her room, they would definitely find some clues. Although the money was all in the system space, the layout of the room might arouse their suspicion.

"You can't just search my room! This is an invasion of my privacy!" Lin Qian said loudly, her eyes filled with anger and determination.

"You thief, what privacy do you have to offer! We're going to find the money today!" the older woman shouted, forcefully shoving Lin Qian aside and heading towards her room.

Lin Qian tried her best to stop them, but her strength was limited, and she was quickly pushed away by the Lin family.

Just then, Aunt Zhang and Uncle Li stepped forward again.

“What you’re doing is wrong! Even if you need to find money, you can’t just invade other people’s privacy!” said Aunt Zhang.

"Yes, you should calm down first and think carefully about where the money might be. Searching blindly like this might not even lead to it!" Grandpa Li advised.

The Lin family ignored their neighbors' advice and stormed into Lin Qian's room, ransacking the place for their money. They left the room in a complete mess, but still couldn't find their hidden stash.

"What are we going to do? Where did the money go?" The fifth sister and sixth brother looked at the messy room and cried helplessly.

"That brat must have transferred the money! We can't let her get away with this!" Third Brother said angrily, turning around and walking towards Lin Qian again.

Looking at her frantic family members, Lin Qian felt a deep sense of despair. She knew she had no standing in this family anymore, and they would never believe her innocence.

"You'll regret this!" Lin Qian said through gritted teeth, her eyes filled with hatred.

"Regret? You thief, you still dare to talk back! Today we're going to teach you a lesson!" the older woman said, and was about to hit Lin Qian again.

Seeing this, Lin Qian quickly turned and ran towards the door. She knew she couldn't stay there any longer, or the consequences would be unimaginable.

The Lin family members chased after them relentlessly, hurling all sorts of nasty insults at them.

"You bitch, don't run away!"

Seeing this, Lin Qian quickly turned and ran towards the door. Just as she was about to run out of the house, her father, who had been silent all along, suddenly became angry.

"Stop it, all of you! Haven't you made enough of a scene?!" Lin's father roared, a fleeting hint of panic flashing in his eyes, but it was quickly masked by his cunning nature.

Everyone was startled by Lin's father's roar and stopped what they were doing.

Lin's father had a gloomy face, and a hint of panic in his eyes. His voice became somewhat sharp due to anxiety: "Stop arguing! Will arguing solve anything?"

If this gets out and everyone finds out, our family will lose face! Where will I put my old face then? Everyone, stop making a scene, finding the money is the most important thing!

I think we probably just misplaced the money. Let's all look carefully instead of just blaming each other! Call the police? Don't even think about it! If the police come, word will get out about this little thing in our family, and how will we ever be able to face our neighbors again?

We're family, what problem can't we resolve at home? Do we have to take it to the police station and make a fool of ourselves in front of everyone?

Lin Qian had been silently observing her father's expression. She saw a hint of cunning and unease in his eyes. This family indeed had some unknown secrets, and her father was afraid of losing face, which was why he was so eager to quell the storm.

She became even more certain of her guess. She knew that Lin's father must have some unspeakable secret, and that secret was very likely related to the family's savings.

Lin's father noticed Lin Qian's gaze and his heart tightened, but he quickly regained his composure.

Although the Lin family members were still somewhat unwilling after hearing Lin's father's words, they didn't say anything more. After all, Lin's father still held a certain degree of authority in the family.

Taking advantage of the moment when everyone was stunned, Lin Qian seized the opportunity to run away. She knew that her life would be completely changed from this point on. She secretly vowed to make these people pay the price and regret their actions.

Looking at everyone's expressions, Mr. Lin felt secretly pleased. He believed his words had worked; they seemed to be hesitating about calling the police. Seeing their attitude soften, Mr. Lin breathed a sigh of relief. He knew he had temporarily succeeded in preventing them from calling the police, but he also knew this matter wasn't over yet, and he had to find a way to resolve this potential threat as soon as possible.
