While everyone was still searching for his hidden stash of money, Lin's father quietly returned to his room and checked the secret drawer again. When he discovered that the money was gone, his face turned deathly pale, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.
His mind raced, trying to recall the last time he saw the notebook. He clearly remembered carefully putting it back in the drawer and locking it after using it. So how could the notebook have vanished?
An ominous premonition washed over Lin's father. He began searching the room, hoping to find some clues. He emptied everything from the drawers and examined each item carefully, but apart from some miscellaneous items, he found nothing related to the notebook.
Lin's father grew increasingly anxious and uneasy. He knew that if the notebook fell into someone else's hands, his crimes would be fully exposed, and everything he owned would vanish. He began to suspect that his family had discovered his secret and stolen the notebook.
Lin's father was gripped by deep fear and confusion. He didn't know what to do. He considered calling the police, but he was afraid that would cause more trouble. He also thought about running away, but where could he go?
He knew very well that someone in his family had most likely discovered his secret.
He began to carefully recall his family's recent actions, trying to find the person who might have discovered his secret. Was it Lin Qian? Her recent behavior had been quite strange, and she had always harbored resentment towards the family.
Mr. Lin pondered to himself, "This girl has been acting all mysterious lately. Could it be that she discovered my secret and took the money?" Or perhaps Mrs. Lin? Although she's usually quite obedient to him, there's no guarantee she won't become suspicious of his actions. Or maybe one of the other children? None of them are easy to deal with; who knows, one of them might have discovered the secret.
Lin's father sat blankly on the bed, lost in thought. He recalled the shady dealings he had done at the factory, how he had earned extra income by falsifying working hours and stealing factory materials, which was how he had accumulated so much private money.
He had initially believed his methods were foolproof and would go undetected, but now he realized he had been far too arrogant. He worried that if these matters were exposed, he would face extremely serious consequences.
He is highly likely to be fired from the factory without hesitation, thus losing the job that supports his family. Once he loses his source of income, his family will inevitably fall into hardship, and his children's lives and education will be greatly affected.
Worse still, his actions have broken the law, and if prosecuted, he may face imprisonment. He dares not imagine the devastation his family would suffer, or the childhood his children would endure amidst ridicule and whispers.
Lin's father felt as if he had fallen into a dark abyss, with no way out. But he knew he couldn't just wait passively; he had to find a way to solve this thorny problem.
His first thought was to find the person who had taken his money, then get them to return it and keep it a secret. He began pacing back and forth in the room, pondering how to find this person.
He decided to start his investigation with Lin Qian, since her recent behavior was the most suspicious to him. He found an excuse to call Lin Qian into his room.
Lin Qian entered the room and saw her father's gloomy face, and she already had a general idea of what was going on.
"Lin Qian, do you know something?" Lin's father asked directly, his eyes revealing a hint of coercion.
Lin Qian sneered inwardly, but feigned ignorance: "Dad, I don't understand what you're saying." At the same time, Lin Qian communicated mentally with 003: "So, Father Lin really suspects me now. 003, what should I do?" 003 replied: "Host, just continue to play dumb and see what he can do." Lin Qian nodded slightly and continued: "Dad, I really don't know. Did you misremember where you put the money?"
Mr. Lin stared intently into Lin Qian's eyes, trying to find a clue in her gaze: "The money in the house is missing, and you really didn't know anything about it?"
Lin Qian shrugged, looking completely innocent, and said, "Dad, I really don't know. Could you think about it again?" But in her heart, she was thinking, "Do you think you can get away with all the bad things you've done?"
Seeing that Lin Qian refused to admit it, Lin's father became even angrier: "Lin Qian, don't think I don't know what you're up to. This money is very important to me. If you know anything, you'd better tell me as soon as possible."
Seeing her father's anxious expression, Lin Qian couldn't help but feel a surge of pleasure: "Dad, why are you so anxious about this money? Is there some secret you're hiding?"
Lin's father was speechless for a moment after being silenced by Lin Qian's words, unsure how to respond. He realized that Lin Qian seemed to know some of the inside story, and that she didn't intend to let him off easily.
Meanwhile, Lin's father was also considering how to deal with the situation if things were exposed. He racked his brains to come up with some excuses and reasons to justify his actions. He secretly vowed that he was willing to pay any price to save his family and job.
He decided to calm Lin Qian down first, and then try to find clues from the other children. He said to Lin Qian, "Lin Qian, perhaps Dad has misunderstood you. This money is indeed extremely important to Dad. If you can help Dad find this money, Dad will definitely thank you properly."
