Do you like it?
Xu Shaojun had Luo Jiu sit on his lap, buried his head in her ear, and whispered a question.
Since they got together, Xu Shaojun has liked to stick to her all the time. Like a large male animal, he wants his partner to be filled with his scent inside and out.
Luo Jiu didn't say anything, but instead tried to scurry closer to him.
Xu Shaojun stopped her from making any small movements and shook the bell beside him.
"The gentleman in box number three has offered 160 silver dollars. Is there anything higher?"
Just then, a bell rang from the other side.
"Wow, Mr. Shi from box number seven has bid 200 silver dollars. It seems the lady really likes this jade bracelet. Are there any bids higher?"
"Ding..." Xu Shaojun rang the bell beside him.
"The gentleman in box number three has offered 220 silver dollars. It seems he's determined to win."
"You really like this?"
Luo Jiu was a little puzzled. This price was more than double the original price, which seemed like a loss.
"I bought it for you. You little ingrate, if it weren't for the fact that you liked it..."
Xu Shaojun was interrupted again before he could finish speaking.
"Ding..." The phone rang again from the other end.
"Mr. Shi offered 250 silver dollars. I wonder if this mysterious gentleman in box number three will raise the price again?"
Surname Shi? Who could it be? Xu Shaojun slowly stood up, put on the mask on the table, and walked out.
The auction house, recognizing that not everyone wants to bid using their own identity, has prepared masks in each private room to protect guests' privacy.
A few seconds of silence followed in the hall; no bell rang. The host smiled and began:
"It seems this mysterious gentleman hasn't raised the price any further. So, this magnolia jadeite piece from Empress Fucha is yours, Mr. Shi. Congratulations, Mr. Shi."
A gentle breeze lifted the gauze used for blocking the light, and Xu Shaojun happened to see Mr. Shi, the man he had just bid against.
Just as I had guessed, that Mr. Shi was none other than Shi Zhenlin, the newly appointed military governor of Shanghai.
He took off his military uniform and lay lazily on the sofa, while a woman sat beside him, a woman he had never seen before!
Xu Shaojun narrowed his eyes slightly, his dark and deep eyes revealing no emotion.
He walked over to Lin Fu and whispered a few words in his ear: "Find out who that woman next to the commander is."
Back in the private room, Xu Shaojun had already concealed his earlier emotions, a slight smirk playing on his lips, carrying a hint of nonchalance.
Upon entering the private room, I saw Luo Jiu looking up, glancing around haphazardly.
"What are you looking at, Little Jiu'er? Wait for me!"
Luo Jiu withdrew her gaze from Xu Shaojun and rolled her eyes. "Dream on."
"No way. What's there to be embarrassed about looking at your boyfriend?" Xu Shaojun raised an eyebrow and walked towards Luo Jiu. "Look at him openly and honestly, since he's your boyfriend anyway."
He reached out and pulled Luo Jiu into his arms.
Luo Jiu leaned against Xu Shaojun, thinking: This man has really become more and more clingy lately.
"I'm sorry. I didn't get a picture of that jade bracelet for you. Is there anything else you'd like?"
Xu Shaojun placed the notebook that had been brought up earlier back in front of Luo Jiu.
Without even looking, Luo Jiu slapped him onto Xu Shaojun's lap.
"Are you stupid? You're letting your girlfriend pick out a gift herself? Can't you think of something yourself? That's not sincere!"
Xu Shaojun chuckled softly, then looked up and tugged at Luo Jiu's sleeve. His deep eyes slowly filled with amusement.
"I'm sorry. This is my first time being someone's boyfriend, and I have no experience. I hope Miss Luo Jiu will give me some guidance."
"First time?" Luo Jiu looked at him with some suspicion. "That doesn't make sense..."
"How come...it doesn't seem like it?" Xu Shaojun touched his chin, pretending to think for a moment, "Maybe I was too aloof back then, and no bold little wildcats dared to come and run into me..."
"Little wildcat?"
"That's right. Who was it that secretly kissed me under the guise of selling alcohol?"
Upon hearing this, Luo Jiu felt inexplicably guilty. "Who said I wanted to kiss you? Shameless."
"Is it really not because I'm too good-looking that he kissed me?"
As Xu Shaojun spoke, he slowly leaned his head closer to Luo Jiu's face.
I really don't know how this man is so fair-skinned, a soldier! It's unfair...
Xu Shaojun saw Luo Jiu's cheeks slowly flush pink, like an innocent young girl. He couldn't help but chuckle softly, "Still saying it's not because of my good looks?"
"It's okay, your boyfriend is yours, you can do whatever you want with him. I won't resist."
Luo Jiu was furious and shoved Xu Shaojun's face away.
This man is really... how come he becomes so shameless after falling in love?
"Thank you all for coming. Today's auction has come to an end."
As soon as the auctioneer announced the end of the auction, a commotion erupted in the hall. Countless people left their seats one after another.
The car slowly started moving.
"It's almost noon. I have something to do this afternoon, so I can't keep you company," Xu Shaojun said.
"Um."
"Jiu'er, why don't you come home with me? It's not safe for you to live there alone."
Xu Shaojun looked at Luo Jiu with a smile in his eyes, like a human trafficker.
Luo Jiu: "...I don't think it's safe for me to live with you."
Xu Shaojun's smile became even gentler. "How could that be? What are you thinking?"
The car drove past the police station.
"Wait a minute, stop the car," Xu Shaojun said, then turned to Luo Jiu and said, "Wait for me."
I opened the car door and headed towards the pastry shop.
"Boss, a box of hibiscus pastries, please," Xu Shaojun said.
I bought some for her last time, but she didn't get to eat any. Since she likes it so much, I'll bring her some more.
"Oh, it's you, young man. Did you bring this especially for your girlfriend?" The owner of the pastry shop was an elderly woman.
The old lady deftly packed a box of pastries for him with her wrinkled hands.
"Yes, you still remember me." Xu Shaojun said, taking out some change from his wallet and handing it to her.
"Of course. I've run this shop here for over twenty years. Everyone says it's delicious, except you. You took one bite and felt like you were about to throw up. I remember that very well."
The old lady was a native Shanghainese, speaking fluent and pleasant Wu dialect. However, these words made Xu Shaojun somewhat embarrassed.
"Hehe, is that so? I'll be going now, Grandma." Xu Shaojun picked up the bag and left quickly, disappearing from sight in no time.
The old lady's words still echoed in my ears, "If your girlfriend likes it, she should come often."
Xu Shaojun opened the car door and handed over the hibiscus pastry, saying, "Here, take this."
Luo Jiu took it, but without looking closely, she noticed an unusual blush on Xu Shaojun's face.
"Why are you blushing just because you bought something?"
