Chapter 23 Sleep

Gu Muchen sat upright, reading a book. He saw the little emperor's head drooping lower and lower, but he didn't wake her, just watched her fish.

A moment later, a small head rested on his shoulder. Gu Muchen paused in his book-turning, turned his head, and saw Luo Jiu sleeping soundly.

I've never seen a boy with such long eyelashes before; it's so tempting to poke them. Gu Muchen raised his hand, then lowered it again. He chuckled self-deprecatingly, wondering how he could have such an absurd thought.

Luo Jiu was very quiet when she was asleep, but she would occasionally smack her lips, as if she was dreaming of something delicious.

Gu Muchen reached out and poked Luo Jiu's cheek, murmuring:

"I see that you only don't make me angry when you're asleep."

After saying that, as if still not satisfied, she reached out and tugged at Luo Jiu's face. Surprisingly, it felt so good to the touch, soft and tender.

"Hmm." Luo Jiu seemed to sense that someone was playing tricks on her and moved her head.

This startled Gu Muchen, who quickly withdrew his mischievous hand. He picked up the book he had just thrown away and pretended to read it.

To everyone's surprise, Luo Jiu merely shifted slightly, as if she were not sleeping comfortably, her brows furrowing slightly.

Gu Muchen paused for a moment, then put down the book. He reached out, gently supported Luo Jiu's head, and laid her softly on his lap, straightening her body as much as possible. This time, Luo Jiu stopped swaying.

Gu Muchen chuckled, then muttered to himself, "What a little rascal, he can't even sleep peacefully."

Then, he picked up the book next to him again.

A gentle evening breeze blew through the capital, and a sense of tranquility filled the carriage.

In another carriage, Yueying sat with a guard. She was anxiously anticipating that the Emperor had angered the Regent and would suffer the consequences. Little did she know that Luo Jiu, with her audacious nature, had fallen asleep right in front of the Regent.

...

Soon, the horses came to a stop. The coachman jumped down from the carriage, walked to the window, and said to the Regent, "Your Highness, we have arrived at the Emperor's palace."

Gu Muchen nodded, looked at Luo Jiu's sleeping face, and hesitated whether to wake her up or not.

Gu Muchen murmured softly, "Xiao Jiu, Xiao Jiu, we've arrived."

To everyone's surprise, Luo Jiu merely turned over, showing no intention of waking up. She remained lying comfortably on his lap, fast asleep.

Yueying, who was on the other carriage, also got off and called out, "Your Majesty?"

Gu Muchen hesitated for a moment, then reached out and lifted Luo Jiu up by the waist, and stepped off the carriage.

He glanced at the surprised Yueying and strode towards the palace.

She gently placed Luo Jiu on the bed and covered her with the blanket. She was completely unaware of how tender her expression was.

He glanced at the two people standing beside him, who seemed hesitant to speak, and said softly, "I didn't do anything to her, she was just asleep."

Yueying felt relieved.

Seeing that Luo Jiu was not sleeping soundly, a hand came out from under the covers again, the red rope on the hand was dazzlingly red on Luo Jiu's snow-white arm.

Yueying quickly stepped forward and put her hand inside. She took out the sachet she had obtained that afternoon and placed it under Luo Jiu's pillow.

"What is this?" Gu Muchen asked.

"It was this afternoon, a sachet given to the Emperor by Young Master Rongyu. He said it could cure His Majesty's insomnia," Yueying replied.

It's Rong Yu again! Gu Muchen felt a pang of jealousy. He'd only met her once, and she'd already given him a sachet and prayer beads. What a heartless little thing.

My good mood vanished instantly, and I left without saying goodbye.
