Chapter 24 Abdication

The next morning, Luo Jiu went to the morning court session looking drowsy. She wasn't going to break her night owl habit anytime soon. Even though she went to bed early the night before, she still couldn't open her eyes.

An hour later, Luo Jiu stormed off from the morning court session, still seething with anger. She couldn't help but complain to Eunuch Li:

"What's wrong with this regent? He's been talking back to me time and time again. Did I offend him? Just because he has power doesn't mean he's all that."

Eunuch Li was also puzzled, but he could only try to comfort him by saying, "Your Majesty, are you perhaps overthinking things?"

Luo Jiu got even angrier when she heard this: "I was too tired, so I just took a nap. Can't you just pretend you didn't see me? You called me again and again."

Li Gonggong asked in confusion, "Expand?"

"He called me because I originally wanted to thank him properly for bringing me home yesterday. We agreed not to pursue the matter further."

Eunuch Li was somewhat confused about what the Regent was thinking. Last night, the Regent had gently carried the Emperor back, but now he was opposing the Emperor at every turn. What was the meaning of this?

After finishing her breakfast, Luo Jiu was about to go to the Imperial Garden to bask in the sun when, before she even left her palace, a young eunuch came to deliver a message:

"Your Majesty, the Regent has been waiting in the Imperial Study for quite some time."

Now I'm in trouble again, I have to deal with him. Isn't the Imperial Study supposed to be the emperor's office, full of secrets? This male protagonist probably has everything except the empty title of emperor.

He instructed Yueying to take the copied "The Way of the Emperor" with him, and then headed towards the Imperial Study.

...

The emperor was eating breakfast, while the regent, the emperor's servant, was diligently reading through trivial memorials.

The first thing Luo Jiu saw when she walked in was this scene: a stern-faced man, frowning and looking at the emperor with disdain, was helping him review the memorials.

Luo Jiu stepped forward and said, "Greetings, Imperial Uncle."

Gu Muchen looked up, his brows furrowing slightly, and said, "Haven't you looked at this memorial for several days?"

"Hmm..." Luo Jiu had nothing to say, so she could only smile. Since transmigrating, she had no idea what reading memorials meant.

Seeing the Regent's disapproving look, Luo Jiu felt bitter inside, but couldn't express it.

So, Luo Jiu spent the morning reading memorials under Gu Muchen's supervision.

"Phew, finally finished reading." Luo Jiu took a deep breath and stretched. She thought to herself, "Being an emperor is definitely not something an ordinary person can do. It's so tedious and boring."

Luo Jiu's eyes darted around, maybe...

Luo Jiu turned her head, looking at Gu Muchen with admiration as he reviewed the memorials. Indeed, a man who is focused is the most handsome. Not only handsome, but he also reviews them quickly.

Gu Muchen noticed Luo Jiu's gaze and looked up to ask, "What's wrong?"

"Uncle, you're quick to read!" Luo Jiu praised.

Gu Muchen smiled, as if all the frustration from yesterday had vanished.

"My imperial uncle is really amazing. Unlike me, I can't understand anything and I'm too slow at approving decisions. I'm just not cut out to be an emperor," Luo Jiu murmured.

After a moment, Luo Jiu said again, "How about I write an abdication edict tomorrow and make you emperor? I saw it yesterday; the people on the street were busy, but fulfilled and happy. I believe in you."

Gu Muchen paused in his hand holding the brush, then looked up at Luo Jiu and asked, "Is Your Majesty serious?"

Luo Jiu, fearing she wasn't being sincere enough, nodded frantically.

Seeing this, Gu Muchen threw down his pen and said, "Absurd! This throne is yours, how can you just give it up like that?"

Luo Jiu was puzzled; Gu Muchen seemed genuinely angry. But did the Regent really not want to be emperor? He wouldn't even accept it for free; did he only want to seize the throne himself?
