Chapter 12 The Sorrow of Parting

Chapter 12 The Sorrow of Parting

The box was gleaming with gold and filled with small yellow croakers; no wonder it felt so heavy when I was holding it.

On top of it was a letter and a photograph.

She picked up the photo and examined it closely. The person in the photo was her mother from the original owner's memories. She had her hair in a low bun, with stray hairs tucked behind her ears, and was wearing a fitted cheongsam while holding a child in her arms.

This is a photo of Lu Mingyue on her first birthday.

Lu Wenzhen had a smile in her eyes. Her appearance was not that of a weak and delicate woman who needed protection, but rather that of Mother Earth, as if she were surrounded by light.

It is a tragedy that such an outstanding woman passed away so young.

Lu Mingyue opened the letter with a heavy heart, filled with regret. It was left by Lu Wenzhen for her daughter.

After handing the box over to Ren Huifang, she kept it safe and, as Lu Wenzhen had instructed, waited until Lu Mingyue had decided on her life's most important matter before handing it over to her.

In the letter, Lu Wenzhen reminisced about her daughter's interesting stories from childhood to adulthood, while also expressing her regret at not being able to see her daughter get married...

After reading the letter, Lu Mingyue burst into tears.

[Waaaaah, System, this is so touching.]

The system's voice rang out, trembling with tears: "This system has weathered so many storms, and even it can't help but cry o(╥﹏╥)o"

One person, holding the envelope, cried uncontrollably.

Noticing the tears falling on the gold bars, Lu Mingyue quickly wiped them away.

system:.......

The contrast is too fast; one second it's touching, the next it's reality.

After crying, Lu Mingyue was somewhat worried. How was she going to take so much gold with her?

[Host, you have me. Have you forgotten about this omnipotent system?]

【you? 】

What can you do?

Lu Mingyue's eyes held a hint of suspicion.

The system's frustrated voice rang out: [I told you not to underestimate this system!]

In order to prove its usefulness, the system immediately demonstrated it to Lu Mingyue.

Following the system's instructions, Lu Mingyue placed her hand on the box, and the next second, the box vanished into thin air.

Where is her gold?

Where did her huge chest of gold go?

[System, where did you put my gold?]

The system smiled smugly: "See? This is my skill. Aren't you surprised?"

Lu Mingyue gritted her teeth and said, "Surprised."

The system coughed lightly and explained to her why the box had disappeared.

As the mission progresses, more space will be available. Since Lu Mingyue has already completed the mission, the system will randomly award her one square meter of space after she applies for the reward, which is more than enough to hold this small box.

That's great. With space, I don't have to worry about the contents of the box being discovered. There's probably nothing safer in the world than space.

What if I want to retrieve my things? You're not going to keep them for yourself, are you?

The system's heart trembled slightly. It had indeed had that thought, but in order to complete the ultimate mission, it naturally had to obey the host's wishes and dared not cause any trouble.

With the gold now in a safe place, Lu Mingyue could finally sleep peacefully, and she even had the system collect the letter.

The next morning, Ren Huifang went to the food station early to buy pork.

The train journey to Haicheng would take four days and three nights, and she wanted to make some meat buns for Lu Mingyue to take with her on the way.

Although there are meals sold on the train, homemade food is always better with more ingredients.

When Lu Mingyue got up, the meal was already set on the dining table.

The fluffy, fluffy meat buns, paired with several refreshing side dishes and heartwarming millet porridge, are full of the taste of home.

When Ren Huifang saw her come out, she quickly called people to eat.

"After we finish eating, your godfather and I will take you to catch the train."

"I want to go too!"

Zhang Miaomiao, who was standing nearby, quickly spoke up, afraid that they would leave her behind.

Thanks to Mingyue, she avoided the tragic fate of marrying a scumbag, and her family was spared a disaster. As Mingyue's best friend, she naturally had to see her off.

Zhang Songwu had other matters to attend to at the military camp and didn't have a chance to see Mingyue off, but Huo Zheng didn't forget to leave a message when he came to visit.

“I consider Mingyue my own sister. If you dare to bully her, I will definitely not let you get away with it.”

Huo Zheng looked at him calmly and said, "Don't worry, I won't give you that chance."

He hates men who hit their wives the most.

Zhang Chengliang drove the group to the train station.

Huo Zheng bought a train ticket for 10 a.m. The journey from home to the train station takes half an hour, so arriving early was just in time.

Upon arriving at the train station, Ren Huifang gave Lu Mingyue some words of advice out of concern.

"Mingyue, if anything happens in the future, just call your godmother... and call home after you get there."

Ren Huifang cherished the connection she had finally established with the child and did not want it to be severed by the distance.

Lu Mingyue nodded, "Godmother, don't worry, I'll call you back when I get there."

“Mingyue, you must write to us when you have time. If you don’t have time, that’s okay, I will write to you.”

Zhang Miaomiao held her hand reluctantly.

Although they haven't known each other for long, she already considers Lu Mingyue her good friend.

It was almost time to board the train. Huo Zheng carried the two of their luggage and led the way.

Lu Mingyue followed closely behind him.

Unlike trains in later times, family members can see their loved ones off at the platform.

Huo Zheng bought a sleeper ticket.

Ren Huifang was slightly relieved after learning about it. She thought that if she had to sit in a hard seat on such a long train journey, she would have been completely exhausted.

As the train whistle blew, the moment of parting was approaching.

Lu Mingyue leaned half her body against the window to say goodbye to the Zhang family.

"Godmother, Godfather, Miaomiao, it's getting late, you should go back now. I'll miss you."

As the train moved further away, the three figures on the platform grew smaller and smaller until they disappeared from sight.

The emotions of parting erupted at this moment. Lu Mingyue sniffed and felt inexplicably sad.

Suddenly, a large hand appeared in front of me and offered me a handkerchief.

Lu Mingyue looked up and met Huo Zheng's concerned gaze.

She hummed in response and caught it without hesitation. Feeling the smoothness in her palm, she originally intended to wipe her nose, but in the end, she only wiped away her tears.

When Huo Zheng first saw her with her head down, he thought she was sobbing softly, so he talked about Meng Xiaoling to distract her.

“Meng Xiaoling was sent to the southwest and won’t be back for three to five years. I’ve also asked someone to keep an eye on the house. The Liu family came to our door this morning.”

Upon hearing his words, Lu Mingyue pictured Meng Mancang jumping up and down in frustration.

Just as she had expected, Meng Mancang was completely stunned when she learned that her house had been sold.

"This is my house, how could it possibly be sold? You must have made a mistake."

Liu Datou laughed disdainfully, "Is this your house? This is Comrade Lu's house. You really think that just because you've lived here for a few more years, the house is yours? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?"

The Liu family members, all tall and imposing, stood at the door. Meng Mancang was being scolded to his nose, but he dared not utter a single complaint.
