Chapter 46 Amazing Culinary Skills
"Oh, what smells so good?"
"My wife made these oysters."
Yu Hong gave him a suspicious look. "How could it be an oyster? Don't try to fool me. Oysters don't taste like this."
Having lived on the island for so many years, I've eaten at least a whole boatload of oysters.
The island may not have much else, but it has plenty of seafood, especially during the fishing season when a large number of fishing boats go out to sea to catch fish, which is an important source of livelihood for the local residents.
They sometimes help with seafood fishing, and the cafeteria's meals are mostly seafood-based. The oysters they usually eat are steamed.
The oysters were scooped out one second and put into the pot the next. The steamed seafood was original and not fishy at all.
But even though the food was good, eating too much of it would get tiresome. Yu Hong would rather eat a steamed bun than eat oysters again.
"They really are oysters. Why would I lie to you?"
Huo Zheng opened the lid when he saw that Huo Zheng didn't believe him.
Yu Hong peered over and saw that it really was an oyster.
"This way of cooking is sure to be delicious, take it home and try it."
Huo Zheng handed him the plate, then picked up the basket and left without looking back. He was in a hurry to get home for dinner and didn't want to chat with him.
Yu Hong walked back with the garlic oysters, half believing and half doubting.
The family compound has people from all over the country, and the usual ways to cook oysters are steaming, braising, or drying and storing them.
However, it's rare to find dishes prepared in a similar way to the oysters in front of you.
"It smells so good, Dad. What did you bring back?"
Yu Yating was the first to get restless, peeking curiously at the plate in her father's hand.
"The oysters Uncle Huo sent were made by your new aunt. Try them and see how they taste."
Although Yu Hong had some doubts, the strong aroma of garlic instantly dispelled them. If the topping smelled so good, the oysters underneath must smell pretty good too.
Upon hearing that it was made by Lu Mingyue, Wang Fengmei immediately perked up. "Mingyue made it, I have to taste it and see how it tastes. Just looking at the ingredients, it can't be too bad."
She couldn't wait to put a chopstickful of oyster in her mouth, her mouth filled with the aroma of garlic and a hint of spiciness.
After taking a bite of oyster, he quickly shoveled down two mouthfuls of rice, and his cheeks instantly puffed up.
Seeing this, the two sisters followed their mother's example, taking a bite of oyster and a bite of rice, their eyes squinting happily.
"It's so delicious!"
Yu Hong, who was a step behind, only managed to grab a spoonful of garlic sauce. "Is it really that delicious?"
He quickly mixed the garlic sauce and rice together, and the white rice was stained with a glossy red color. With each bite, a variety of flavors intertwined.
After he finished eating, he realized that his wife had divided the last bit of soup into their two daughters' bowls. He licked his lips with some regret.
"You finished eating so quickly."
The oysters that Lu Mingyue bought were large and plump. She distributed a fixed number to each household based on the number of people, since giving away too many or too few would be inappropriate.
The sauce was generously added, and the four large oysters almost didn't fit on the plate.
"I didn't expect Mingyue to be such a good cook."
Wang Fengmei savored the garlic flavor in her mouth, and while it was still fresh, she ate a couple more mouthfuls of white rice.
Watching her two daughters happily eating their mother's medicine, she thought to herself that if she had the chance, she should ask Sister Mingyue for some advice.
Wang Fengmei's cooking skills are average. When she was at home, she was busy working in the fields every day. As long as she had something to eat, she didn't care whether it tasted good or not.
It wasn't until after I got married and had children that I slowly started learning to cook, but that was limited to just stir-frying the vegetables until they were cooked through.
It's no exaggeration to say that sometimes children would rather eat in the cafeteria than go home for a meal.
On the other side, Lu Mingyue brought two children to deliver food to Zheng Xiuhua.
Seeing the plate of oysters, he couldn't let Lu Mingyue go back empty-handed, so he picked a lot of fresh vegetables from his own garden.
Zheng Xiuhua's home was quite far away, and when the three of them returned home, Huo Zheng was already sitting there.
"You're back. Wash your hands and eat."
Huo Zheng had already served all the food and prepared the chopsticks in advance.
Lu Mingyue told the two children that they should wash their hands before eating so that no worms would get into their stomachs.
She taught the children a seven-step handwashing song, just like how kindergartens teach children to wash their hands.
Smelling the fragrance in the air, the brother and sister were a little absent-minded. They quickly finished washing up according to the steps and hurriedly ran into the house to sit down.
"Mom, come quick, it's time for dinner!"
Yao Yao urged her mother to sit down quickly.
She had been hungry since smelling the delicious food, but she had kept quiet the whole way because she had to deliver something to her aunt. Now she could finally sit down and eat.
As long as the family eats together, no one starts eating before everyone else has arrived.
"Alright, let's eat."
Lu Mingyue made a seafood noodle dish and served a bowl to each of the two children.
Yao Yao stared at the bowl full of seafood, her little mouth agape.
It smells delicious.
She scooped up a spoonful of soup, blew on it to cool it down, and carefully put it in her mouth.
A few seconds later her eyes lit up, and she happily swung her feet, saying, "Mom, the soup is delicious."
"If it tastes good, drink more. I made a lot."
Lu Mingyue also loves seafood noodles.
Seafood noodles can retain the freshness of the food to the greatest extent. She added clams, shrimp, and oysters.
All the ingredients I bought today are here, and the unique flavors of various seafood blend together to create a delicious taste.
Huo Zheng was the first to reach for the garlic oysters with his chopsticks; his stomach had been growling from the aroma on the way to the food delivery.
The oysters are coated with evenly minced garlic, and their oily color makes them look very appetizing.
Huo Zheng took only one bite and immediately fell in love with the taste.
The whole family was very satisfied with the meal, and in the end, not even the soup was left.
Lu Mingyue slumped comfortably in the chair and let out a soft burp.
I ate too much without even realizing it.
The brother and sister were sitting in the same posture.
Yao Yao touched her tummy and felt it looked like a small watermelon.
Huo Zheng watched them finish eating and clear away all the leftover food. There wasn't enough seafood noodles, so they ate the remaining broth with the leftover rice.
Lu Mingyue looked at his stomach in surprise, wondering how this person's stomach could hold so much food.
If I ate as much as him, I'd be a 200-pound fatso by now, wouldn't I?
System: [Host, you're mistaken. It's a 300-pound fat man.]
Huo Zheng coughed, "I usually train a lot in the military camp, and I have a big appetite, but don't worry, our family has enough money for food and drink."
After he finished speaking, Lu Mingyue's eyes seemed to become even more resentful.
Lu Mingyue: [Ugh, it's so frustrating to compare myself to others! Why can he eat so much and still be so thin? Look at that tiny waist!]
System: [Host, isn't this the kind of waist you like?]
