Chapter 47 Getting a Haircut
V-shaped waist?
What is this?
Huo Zheng thought for a long time but still couldn't understand what it meant. He could only determine that it was part of the waist, but he couldn't ask Lu Mingyue about the specific details.
After the meal, Huo Zheng took the initiative to stand up, clear the table, and wash the dishes.
This was an agreement the two had made beforehand. Lu Mingyue would be responsible for cooking at home, while Huo Zheng would handle the rest of the chores, such as washing dishes and sweeping the floor.
For Huo Zheng, cooking is a very difficult task, and he is willing to take on more responsibility in other areas.
After getting married, they became a family, but they couldn't leave all the household chores to Lu Mingyue.
He would help with the work whenever he had time.
Huo Zheng only discovered that there were several chicks in the house when he was washing the dishes. Their chirping was very lively.
"Are these the chicks we bought today?"
"Yes, I'm thinking of raising a few chicks so we can have eggs in the winter."
Most importantly, it can also contain chicken.
Of course, Lu Mingyue didn't say this in front of the two children.
These two kids treat the chicks like their friends; if she were to actually cut them, they would definitely cry.
Huo Zheng glanced at the spot in the yard where there was no chicken coop, and Lu Mingyue had simply made a fence out of wooden planks.
As he washed the dishes, he said, "After I finish tidying up, I'll build a chicken coop."
This was exactly what Lu Mingyue wanted.
To avoid appearing too excited, she feigned embarrassment and asked, "Really? Won't that take up too much of your rest time?"
Huo Zheng smiled slightly and said, "It won't take long, it will be ready soon."
There were readily available materials right outside the house; a few stones were piled up, and planks and tarpaulins were placed on top.
When the brother and sister learned that they were going to build a nest for the chicks, they didn't want to take a nap and instead worked outside with their father under the scorching sun.
Sometimes I take a nail, sometimes a piece of wood, just small odds and ends.
Huo Zheng knew they wanted to help, so to make the children feel involved, he let them use some lightweight tools.
Seeing that they were very motivated, Lu Mingyue didn't sit idle either. She went to the kitchen and cooked a pot of mung bean soup.
It's the season when the autumn heatwave arrives, and the air feels humid and muggy.
The weather these days is hot at midday, but cool in the mornings and evenings.
Huo Zheng said it wouldn't be long, and the rest time would be enough to build a chicken coop.
To give the chicks a better experience, he went to the beach and carried back a load of sand to spread in the chicken coop.
"The sand contains some minerals, which not only kill bacteria when the chickens walk on it, but also prevent the floor of the chicken coop from becoming sticky when it rains."
Lu Mingyue really didn't know this. She only thought that sand was a good thing for keeping things clean. Hearing Huo Zheng say this, she couldn't help but give him a thumbs up.
"You know so much."
Huo Zheng smirked and said, "I heard it from my sisters-in-law."
The brother and sister went outside and found some vegetable leaves. When they came back, they imitated the chicks' calls and played with them for a while.
"Alright, kids, it's getting late, time for a nap."
Lu Mingyue glanced at Huo Zheng and saw that he still had half an hour to rest, so she urged him to rest for a while as well.
He works so hard, he needs to rest more often; he can't keep working like he's made of iron.
Leilei looked at his father lying beside him, wriggling around like a worm.
Huo Zheng, with his eyes closed, sensed his little movements. Seeing that he wasn't sleepy at all, he asked helplessly, "What are you doing? Aren't you sleepy?"
When Leilei heard that his father was still awake, he happily hugged him and said, "Dad, I want to go to Mom's to sleep."
"Your mother and sister are already asleep."
Leilei smacked his head in disappointment, thinking to himself that he must tell his mother in advance that he wanted to sleep with her that night.
Having lost all hope of finding his mother, Leilei quickly fell asleep.
Hearing the even breathing beside him, Huo Zheng closed his eyes and fell asleep.
When Leilei woke up again, his father was no longer beside him.
He put on his shoes, rubbed his hair, and as soon as he stepped out of the bedroom, he met Lu Mingyue's eyes.
"Mother."
The little guy made a sound.
"Hey, I'm awake."
Leilei nodded, but his eyelids were not fully open, as if he could continue sleeping.
Lu Mingyue looked at his hair and noticed that it was partially obstructing his eyes. "Is your hair too long?"
There's a large mirror hanging behind the door in the house, so Leilei can see his whole body when he stands there.
He rubbed his eyes, ran over to the mirror, looked at himself from left to right, and realized that it really did seem a bit long.
"When Dad comes back, he'll take me to get a haircut from Uncle."
There are comrades in the military camp who are in charge of cutting hair, and the children in the family compound also get their hair cut there.
Lu Mingyue thought for a moment, then wouldn't that be the same hairstyle as Huo Zheng's?
Looking at Huo Zheng's hairstyle and Lei Lei's round little face, they seem somewhat mismatched.
She had a bold idea.
"How about I cut your hair?"
Mom is going to cut his hair.
Leilei covered his head and looked at Lu Mingyue in disbelief.
A hint of doubt crossed her small face.
Has Mom ever cut her hair?
"It must have been cut."
When she was in school, she didn't like others touching her bangs, so she cut them herself.
Getting bangs cut is probably not much different from getting a haircut, since Leilei's hair isn't even as long as his bangs.
When Yao Yao got out of bed, she found that her mother and brother were doing something.
She ran outside and saw that her mother was holding scissors and cutting her brother's hair.
The little one, feeling the same way, clutched his own pigtails, his mouth agape in astonishment, only able to fit an egg in it, staring dumbfounded at his mother's actions.
Before starting, Lu Mingyue repeatedly assured Leilei that her cooking skills were excellent.
Lei Lei then sat there obediently, comforting himself that things couldn't get too bad.
If it doesn't look good, he'll go back to his uncle and have his hair completely cut.
Many children in the residential compound are bald, so it's not surprising that there's one more bald kid.
Leilei kept his eyes and mouth tightly closed, not daring to open his eyes at all. Even when he heard his sister's voice, his lips remained tightly pursed.
He heard the snip-snip of scissors beside his ear and gripped his pants tightly, too afraid to move.
Until I heard my mother's voice.
"alright."
Lu Mingyue took off the old clothes wrapped around him and used a sponge to clean the remaining hair on his neck.
"Open your eyes."
Leilei slowly opened his eyes. He tentatively touched his hair, and it seemed okay.
However, you can't judge how well the haircut is done just by feeling. He ran into the house and was pleasantly surprised to see his brand-new hair.
"How was it? My skills weren't bad, were they?"
Yao Yao chimed in, "Mom's haircut looks good."
Yao Yao thinks that if she ever likes short hair, she can ask her mother to cut it for her.
