Chapter 73 Visiting

Chapter 73 Visiting

After being discharged from the hospital, Niu Niu rested at home for a few days. His complexion gradually recovered, and he returned to being the lively and cheerful child he always was.

Lu Mingyue brought Leilei and Yaoyao to Zheng Xiuhua's house to visit him.

"Niu Niu!" Lei Lei rushed over as soon as he entered the door.

The three children immediately hugged each other, and their laughter filled the room.

They played hide-and-seek in the yard, chasing each other and having a great time.

Niu Niu's face was covered in sweat, but he smiled brightly, showing no trace of the shadow of struggling in the sea just a few days ago.

Seeing this, Zheng Xiuhua felt a warm glow in her heart and said to Lu Mingyue, "Thanks to you and Huo Zheng, this child was able to recover so quickly."

Lu Mingyue waved her hand: "The children being together is more effective than any medicine."

In the courtyard, three children sat side by side on the steps, sharing candy one piece at a time.

Niu Niu suddenly looked up, her eyes sparkling: "Let's go to the beach together in a few days!"

Lei Lei hesitated. After all, they had witnessed Niu Niu struggling in the sea, and even those who weren't directly involved felt a shadow looming over them.

"Niu Niu, aren't you scared anymore?"

Niu Niu scratched his head and said, "I shouldn't be scared anymore, right? The doctor said I'm fine now, as long as I'm careful and don't go to dangerous places, it'll be okay."

Hearing this, Leilei still didn't agree immediately, but instead asked for the adults' opinion.

"Once the wound heals, the pain is forgotten; they still dare to run to the beach."

Zheng Xiuhua frowned and pinched her son's ear.

Niu Niu tugged at his mother's hand and said sweetly, "Mom, it's okay. I'll stay away from the sea from now on and only play on the beach."

It's unrealistic to expect a child who grew up on an island to never go near the sea.

Zheng Xiuhua couldn't refuse, so she had to give a serious lecture: "From now on, you can only play with your mother."

Niu Niu immediately nodded: "Okay! This time I'm bringing my little shovel to dig up the biggest seashell!"

Leilei thought for a moment, then added with a smile, "We should also bring water bottles and snacks, so we can have a picnic on the beach!"

"Then I'll bring a fishing net!" Yao Yao said excitedly. "We can catch small fish together!"

The three children got more and more excited as they talked.

Lu Mingyue and Zheng Xiuhua stood to the side, looking at their innocent smiling faces, and couldn't help but smile at each other.

"We'll go together when the weather gets a little warmer," Lu Mingyue said with a smile.

Zheng Xiuhua nodded. Seeing how excited the children were, she knew she had no choice but to go.

That evening, Huo Zheng came home from get off work and said he was going to his boss's house the next day.

“Since we’ve been on the island, Director Wang has taken good care of us. It just so happens that he’s home today, so let’s go over and visit him.”

Lu Mingyue nodded: "Then I'll pack. What should we bring?"

"The leaders won't accept anything valuable; a little snack will suffice."

Fearing that Lu Mingyue would be nervous, Huo Zheng said, "Don't worry, the leader is very kind."

Despite his words, Lu Mingyue still perked up and prepared diligently, since this was her first visit and it was right to be polite.

The next day, when Huo Zheng returned home from get off work, Lu Mingyue had prepared a basket.

Huo Zheng picked it up and felt it was a bit heavy, so he asked, "What is this?"

Lu Mingyue lifted a corner of the basket and said, "I made some dishes to bring along for Director Wang and the others to try."

When we arrived at Director Wang's house, she was already busy in the kitchen.

They smiled happily when they saw Huo Zheng and his family arrive.

"The bright moon has arrived."

"Hello, Director Wang. Hello, Chief Fu."

Fu Youren, dressed in a slightly faded cloth shirt, greeted the family with a kind face and invited them to come in and sit down.

"You're here, why are you carrying things?" Director Wang said reproachfully.

"Director Wang didn't bring much. The rest are some dishes I made myself. I brought them over for you and the leader to try."

Leilei and Yaoyao said in unison, "Grandma Wang, my mom's cooking is delicious."

Director Wang's wife smiled so hard her eyes narrowed into slits: "Really? Then we're in for a treat today."

Lu Mingyue felt a little embarrassed by the children's praise and gently patted their heads.

After sitting for a while, Director Wang got up to prepare the meal.

Lu Mingyue rolled up her sleeves: "Director Wang, let me help you."

Director Wang was taken aback for a moment, then nodded happily: "Great, it's been a long time since anyone has cooked with me."

The kitchen quickly became lively. Director Wang chopped vegetables, Lu Mingyue cooked, Huo Zheng peeled garlic and handed out seasonings, and even the children helped pick scallions in the yard.

Before long, a sumptuous meal was laid out.

Director Wang's stewed pork ribs and steamed crab, along with the dishes brought by Lu Mingyue, were a perfect combination of meat and vegetables, and looked and smelled delicious.

Everyone sat together, and Director Wang picked up a piece of braised sea fish and put it in his mouth, nodding repeatedly: "Mmm, it tastes really good, even better than what the cafeteria makes!"

"I'm glad you like it," Lu Mingyue said with a smile.

After the meal, a cool breeze blew through the courtyard as Fu Youren and Huo Zheng sat around the stone table, drinking tea and chatting.

Looking at Lu Mingyue busily tidying up the house and the children playing, Fu Youren smiled and said to Huo Zheng, "Your wife is a down-to-earth person, hardworking and kind-hearted. You must treat her well."

Huo Zheng nodded, his eyes full of gratitude: "I know, it's my blessing to marry her."

Fu Youren picked up his teacup and sighed softly: "In our situation, we rarely get to spend time with our families. No matter how busy we are with work, we should remember to go home and visit them more often."

Huo Zheng said solemnly, "Don't worry, I will."

Inside the room, Director Wang was also chatting with Lu Mingyue.

Director Wang looked at her and said gently, "You are a diligent and sensible child. Huo Zheng is lucky to have married you."

Lu Mingyue smiled somewhat embarrassedly: "You flatter me, I just did what I should do."

Director Wang shook his head: "Not everyone can take such good care of their family. Huo Zheng is busy with work, so you need to be understanding of him, but don't forget to take care of yourself too. If you have any difficulties at home, just tell me, don't hesitate."

Lu Mingyue nodded, her eyes filled with gratitude: "Thank you, Director."

"By the way, you haven't been assigned a job yet, have you? I remember you only have a high school diploma, right?"

"right."

Director Wang felt a little regretful. Being able to finish high school showed that the child was very smart, and if circumstances allowed, he might have been a college student.

"Do you have any plans for work? The Women's Federation is specifically responsible for the families of military personnel on our island, including their employment. There aren't any suitable positions available right now, but there is one in the logistics department. If you'd like to apply, I can inquire about it for you."

Lu Mingyue put down her teacup and said earnestly, "Thank you for your kind offer, Director, but I'd better not go. My children at home need to be taken care of, and I'd like to spend more time with them."

The two had discussed these matters. Huo Zheng's salary was enough to support a family of three, and she could do things she liked at home.

Director Wang paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "That's true, the child is the most important. But if you change your mind someday, feel free to come to me. I'll keep an eye out for other good jobs for you."

"Okay, thank you, Director."

Lu Mingyue expressed her sincere gratitude.
